The mortgage companies are still giving out real estate loans without the need for a social security number. Go to this page and look at the column on the left. In the left hand column under the heading "Why use Quickmatch" it has this listed as a benefit of using their service:

-No Social Security number required to be matched with lenders

I found this gem at msn.com on the far right below the stock quotes. Here is the text of the ad:
