Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

A reader writes:

The Washington Post claims:

"Maryland and the District are losing residents to other jurisdictions but making up for the loss by gaining immigrants, according to new census estimates released today. Virginia has followed a similar pattern, attracting vastly more newcomers from overseas than from within the United States and growing only marginally since 2000. The influx of immigrants has saved the three jurisdictions from what might otherwise be a precipitous population decline."

Or the influx of immigrants drove up housing costs and congestion and lowered wages, and drove out the Americans who were living there...?

The American media's philosophy of journalism when it comes to immigration is:

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

A comment from a previos post demonstrating idiocracy in action right now in DC:

Here's a recent article about former Mayor Marion Barry, current DC politician. He was arrested again and is considering suing for "racial profiling."

The funny part was the automatically generated related links at the bottom of the article. Some are very serious:

Now, there's a mayor with a record you can trust! Those wise DC voters inspire wonder and admiration.

No, what they inspire is a movement to put paid to home rule in DC.

If Detroit, New Orleans, or Newark wish to run their town as they do, one can argue the will of the people is being served. But in the District of Columbia, the people whose will must be served is not that of the city but the nation. And the people of America, I'll wager, do not want a untended yeast infection of a metropolis as their national Capitol.

A much bigger factor in the rising cost of realestate is over regulation. Slow gowth policies are destructive to the working poor. Some of whom get it both ways, being construction workers and housing consumers.

After all immigrants often work in the construction trades so they can both add to the housing stock and consume it.

The Feds rapid creation of money has also been a big factor in driving up housing prices since 1996.
