LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa needs a new last name

Los Angeles' ambitious mayor has one of those feminist names where he and his wife merged their surnames (his Villa, hers Raigosa) into Villaraigosa. As Bill Clinton had previously discovered, however, claiming to be a feminist can be a great way to get chicks. Mrs. Villaraigosa recently kicked him out of the Mayor's mansion in Hancock Park for having another affair, this time with an anchorette from Telemundo's Spanish-language news program. Blogger Luke Ford had much of the story back in January, months before the LA Times.

During a previous affair in 1994 while his wife was recovering from cancer surgery, a fax went around in LA Mexican-American political circles proposing about 100 new names for Villaraigosa, including Villapendejo, Villapitosuelto, Villaprimadonna, and Villahomewrecker.

I thought it was remarkable how many different looks she has, depending on the makeup, the hairstyle, and the [possible] rhinoplasty.

Anybody got any pics of the LAPD coppette, as above?

  3. Conclusion, women will bang anything with power.

    Two words: Dennis Kucinich

    From the LA Times:

Villaraigosa's admission cast a fresh shadow over his own personal conduct: He has two adult daughters born out of wedlock and his wife filed for divorce in 1994 over a separate affair for which he later publicly apologized. They eventually reconciled.

The article also includes a photo gallery of pictures with Salinas and Villawhatever together.

It's the 4th of July: welcome to the Latinization of America.

  5. I was a little taken aback by the matter-of-fact tone this guy displayed in his press conference admitting to the affair. Most othe politicians caught in an affair have either displayed false contrition (like Clinton) or defiance (like Giuliani), but this guy said, "It's true I have a relationship with Ms. Salinas" as if he were talking about his trip to the dentist.

  7. The bombshell is that, Mayor Tony behaved worse as a man than Newt Gingrich:

Mayor Tony's wife had cancer and was undergoing treatment. He campaigned even though she asked him not to. He had an affair with his campaign manager's wife (he was Godfather to their kids). Hubby found about it and went hunting for him with a gun.

    Sordid.

Conclusion: You can't trust Mayor Tony with your wife. You can't trust Mayor Tony with anything. His career is over.

  8. I believe his original name was Tony Villar. When they merged names they only used one 'r' in the middle, for whatever reason. (Signifying thier unity as one soul, I assume)

Who are you frickin' tryin' to kid?
Villacojones will get re-elected in a landslide. I've no doubt that Hispanic men will vote for him, and it will be interesting to see if Latin women will vote for him or for his non-Hispanic opponent.

At least they can say he was cheating on his wife with another Latina. On the other hand, if the other woman had been white...

  10. From an article in the March 10th "Economist":

California's schools were once among America's best. In the past three decades though, they have been hobbled by anti-tax measures, powerful teachers' unions and state bureaucracy. In 2005 California's 14-year-olds came joint 44th among the 50 states in mathematics tests, tying with West Virginia. In reading they ranked 49th. For Mr. Villaraigosa, whose city contains some of the state's worst schools, this is both a problem and an opportunity.

"Anti-tax measures, teachers' unions and bureaucracy"? Gee, I can't think of any other reason why schools have gotten so bad over the last 30 years. HMMMM...NO REASON REALLY COMES TO MIND. I'm sure the facts that the worst schools are in LA, and that CA students do worse, relative to the nation, on ENGLISH reading tests than the do on math have nothing to do with it.

  11. This would have never happened if he didn't have power. As a somewhat attractive, masculine, mostly Mediterranean man, I can tell you we do not have problems picking up chicks, even when we are not rich or powerful. However, we need to make sure #1 knows she is #1. Villaraigosa is a busy man and he was probably spending a lot of his free time with #2 and neglecting his duties to #1. In most of these stereotypically southern European relationships, the wife knows the husband cheats, it takes more than that to push her over the edge.

I hesitated to post this last night, and decided not to at the time, but I looked through some pictures of Mirthala Salinas -vs- Corina [Villa-] Raigosa, and it's pretty obvious that Raigosa has substantially more aboriginal blood in her than does Salinas:

It's a point I was trying to make in a different thread - Salinas is essentially a Caucasian woman - and could easily pass as a native of Southern France, Southern Italy, Israel, Spain, Portugal, Greece, or the like.

Don't know how this plays out in the Hispanic community, but the black [female] community has traditionally been deeply suspicious of white females stealing "their" men.

Which is probably [at least one of the reasons] why you see so few black politicians married to white women.

Oh, and for the record, my sympathies are with Corina - hard to see how she could have been treated much worse than her husband's been treating her.

  13. It was convenient to mock him by calling him "Antonio VivaLaRaza" so I hope he doesn't change his name too soon.

  14. Remember,I was pretty young but recall it on TV,when the first black guy was elected mayor of LA?? It was dear old Tom Bradley(always surprised when black guys are named "Tom"). I recall watching Johnny Carson constantly make fun of Sam Yorty, who preceeded Bradley.(As he did to some malignant dwarf named Abe Beame in New York) Bradley had the appearance of a well-preserved corpse, but app. was a good mayor. Everyone at the time said,"Oh boy,he is paving the way for minorities!"(He got the "latin" vote.) NOW the worm has turned and this stupid jackass Tony V. is ensconced in the seat, and this dumb-f*** is not going anywhere, the musical chair game is over.LA appears poised to suffer one corrupt and macho caudillo after another. Whatever you think of Mexicans you have to admit that their so-called "elite" is pretty much in the same vein as Tony...worthless.

Latinos are generally much more tolerant of diversity within their ethnic group. A white Mexican is okay, but a white Briton is not.

It's the old axiom put to a new use: in the South they'd say "Once you go black, you never go back," referring not to black sexual prowess (or size) but to that line you inevitably cross when mayors are and will always be black. Black pols may be bad at a lot of things, but they're very adept at using their power to drive whites out and keep whites away.

Whatever you think of Mexicans you have to admit that their so-called "elite" is pretty much in the same vein as Tony...worthless.

My favorite example of that is not Mexican but Cuban: the scowl on Senator Mel Martinez's face everytime he appears in public, and the self-righteous air he assumes that, because he's an immigrant, he therefore should have some special say on the matter - more so than, say, Jeff Sessions.

  17. Mark -- Imagine this attack ad:

Grainy black and white picture of Mayor Tony. Ominous "scary" music.

Voice: When Mayor Tony's wife was undergoing cancer treatment, he had an affair.

Picture of his Campaign Manager's wife.

Voice: With his best friend's wife.

Picture of Campaign Manager, Wife, photo tears in half.

Voice: His Campaign Manager was his best friend. Mayor Tony was godfather to his children.

Voice: If Mayor Tony would treat his best friend and his cancer-stricken wife that way, imagine how he'd screw you?

Voice: You can't trust Mayor Tony.

[Paid for by "Friends of Candidate X"]

In just a few seconds you can make a TV ad that shows, definitively, that you CANT TRUST MAYOR TONY. No man, Latino or not, is going to vote for a guy who screwed his buddy's wife. And no woman, Latino or not, will vote for a man who screwed around on his wife while she had cancer, and with a family friend no less.

Men can't trust Mayor Tony. See also: Gavin Newsome who's career is over also. Women can't trust Mayor Tony. It's a two-fer.

There are lots of other Latino pols who would like to be mayor. You could make this attack ad in a few hours on a Mac or PC. Run it all over in English and Spanish. He's toast. He CERTAINLY isn't going to be Governor like he thought. Nor will Newsome.

Newt Gingrich served his wife with divorce papers right after her cancer surgery. Do you think it's any accident that he's no longer in office?

Yeah, but small problem there: they could've made the ad before his last election. He cheated on his wife back in 1994. This guy's got a history.

But I am waiting for the results of his next election: through their electoral choices, Hispanic Angelenos will show us whether or not family values "stop at the Rio Grande."

Bush: "Family values don't stop at the Rio Grande."

Yeah, but Mexican immigrants have high crime rates.

Bush: "Family values don't stop at the Rio Grande."

Yeah, but Hispanic illegitimacy rates are 50% - closer to blacks than whites.

Bush: "Family values don't stop at the Rio Grande."

Yeah, but a bunch of Hispanics in LA just re-elected a serial adulterer who cheated on his wife when she was fighting cancer.

  21. Antonio has all kinds of stress keeping LA safe from thugs, and other criminals. He is one chicano who knows how to relax in style with the ladies.nobody says anything when old weasel politicians play golf for entertainment.Tony just likes to enjoy himself in style. We don't know the facts about marraige and women can be pretty venemous with their hubby. As for me as aCalifornia citizien and taxpayer,I find it appauling that the media and people are taking some cheap shots at Tony just because he is Chicano who knows how to succeed. The womanizing may bring some bitterness in a marraige, but think about it,Tony goes to work daily trying to make the city safe for everone, and this is what he gets in return. He gets called an adulter,a womanizer, unfaithful, bad husband and the name calling goes on and on.He is doing a good job as mayor of his city and he seems to be pretty good at womanizing. And if the ladies like him, well they may have good taste or bad tase since he was a married man.
I would vote for Tony as govenor if he ran for that office.Keep up the hard work Tony!

  22. Tony May be good mayor but he is also a ladies man.It is kind of tough to find awife who will put up with a man like that.Like all divoces,it will be expensive and painful.A m an has to know if womanizing is more important than maintaininghis family. In our culture, few women agree or like sharingtheir man. Then again do men wantto share their lady?in a time of so m any social diseases,it is amazing how even visonary Chicanos like Tony, will tak e achance at some cheap thrills with multiple women. But then again millions of other men and women do the same thing. Why get married then? The divoce lawyers are the true winners.
    Viva l'amour!
