The American media is concerned about violent illegal immigrants' impact ... on Mexico!

From the Chicago Tribune:

Home countries frustrated as U.S. deports criminals
Influx creates challenges for residents, civic groups

JUAREZ, Mexico — When he crossed illegally into the U.S. in 2002, Cesar Sanchez didn't plan on stabbing a girlfriend's estranged husband eight times.

Yet there he was, a convicted murderer dropped at the Texas border last month—one less worry for U.S. officials but a source of concern for the cities in Central America receiving thousands of freed convicts.

"I crossed like so many others; for a dream," said Sanchez, 25, wondering how he'd make it back to his family in Veracruz. "And, then ..."

U.S. Immigration officials are escalating efforts to put some 450,000 illegal immigrants serving prison time in the U.S. on planes back home. In 2008, about 113,000 such convicts were deported.

Perhaps the establishment press should have been more concerned about criminally-inclined foreigners coming to this country in the first place.

  1. It's out duty to take these psycho thugs in. Are you some kind of racist or what? Next you'll be objecting to letting in people with ties to Islamic terrorist organizations!

"Judges indicate they may order prison population reduced by 58,000"

Why not free the illegal aliens?

  3. Jeez, Steve, since America is a nation of immigrants, being concerned about non-immigrants more than immigrants is actually pretty un-American. Just think about it.

  4. The whole media/political establishment has simply gone insane. Last week the Utah State Senate passed a resolution asking the federal government for permission to "institute an employer-sponsored work program providing a two-year, renewable guest worker authorization for foreign workers and undocumented immigrants." It needs to do this to "address Utah's need for both unskilled and skilled laborers."

Apparently our state legislators spend their free time watching cartoons rather than reading the news.

Then yesterday one of the two major dailies, the Mormon Church-owned Deseret News, expressed concern that a 2000 law meant to grant amnesty/citizenship to illegal victims of crime was not being fully implemented. They've never expressed much concern about a certain 1986 law that hasn't been fully implemented.

You just can't make this shit up.

Mexican drug violence spills over into the US -Associated Press

"Just as government officials had feared, the drug violence raging in Mexico is spilling over into the United States."

"U.S. authorities are reporting a spike in killings, kidnappings and home invasions connected to Mexico's murderous cartels. And to some policymakers' surprise, much of the violence is happening not in towns along the border, where it was assumed the bloodshed would spread, but a considerable distance away, in places such as Phoenix and Atlanta."
    ....
    ....
"In fact, drug officials have dubbed Atlanta "the new Southwest border," said Jack Killorin, a former federal drug agent and director of the Atlanta region's High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force."

I'd be all for that - they should free the most violent offenders.........into the Hamptons, Vale, Jackson Hole, Sundance, Hyannis Port, Beverly Hills, Madison, Ann Arbor, Cambridge, and San Francisco.

How long has it been since Carlos Slim balied out the Times? A couple of weeks? And the times has already published three editorials on illegal aliens. And the odd thing is, editorials are usually topical, and yet nobody is much talking about immigration right now. But still, the Times feels this is worth editorializing over.

The times should add the following slogan to it's masthead, right above "All the News,...etc.": "We're all just a bunch of whores"

  7. The Chicago Tribune, like most newspapers, is being hard hit by lower readership and thus lower revenue and lower rates it can charge for ads. If a newspaper took a contrarian view on issues like these as compared to the msm, I think that that newspaper would stand out and the readership would increase.

  9. I'm not sure deporting convicted murderers is a good idea - at least not without assurances that Mexico is going to take measures to keep them from coming back here again (which, given the state of the border, would mean locking them up over there). I'm all for deporting lesser criminals as a cost saving measure, but in the case of murder we might have to suck it up and pay for the imprisonment. Giving them a distinctive outlaw brand or tattoo that would allow anyone in the US to kill them without legal consequence is probably a little too medieval...

Love the sympathy quote - wonder how many other murderers get a similarly sympathetic airing of their views?

"I crossed like so many others; for a dream," said Sanchez, 25, wondering how he'd make it back to his family in Veracruz. "And, then ..."

  11. I can't get over that lede.

Shouldn't have ****ing done it then, should he have?

In fact, what is the point of the whole story? Do we owe unlimited numbers of illegal immigrants amnesty if they keep their noses clean, and its a tragedy when they slip up? Or is the implication that we have a responsibility to make a place for convicted criminals to avoid any imposition on their home countries? I'm not sure the Chicago Tribune has thought through the perverse incentive of de facto amnesty for convicted criminals.
