Next April Fools Day

You know what would be a cool April Fools Day tradition? If journalists in the Mainstream Media were allowed to print truths for one day each year without damaging their careers.

They could print headlines like:

“Neocon foreign policy advocates tend to be Jews obsessed with Israel”

“Blacks are better at basketball on average”

"Affluent whites like illegal immigration because they are scared of letting black service workers into their homes and yards"

But there would be a Carnaval-in-Rio-style exemption for anything you publish on April 1st that would keep you from getting kicked off JournoList. You’d have Plausible Deniability. Indeed, you could get all PC and huffy on your critics:

“Hey, it was just an April Fools Day prank. What, you were so naive as to believe that blacks are better at basketball? What are you? Some kind of racist? Only a racist wouldn’t realize that was just an April Fools joke! You're probably a racist deep-down. Racist! Racist!”

As opposed to, say, recognizing that America's interests coincide with its allies -- like Israel.

How about those gentile neo-cons? Was Dick Cheney also "obsessed" with Israel? Or is this obsession just a Jewish thing?

Somehow, I get the feeling that you do not look kindly upon people who support Israel. Or am I wrong?

Most Jews need not worry, though, about being obsessed with Israel, as they seem to be more interested in hating themselves and hating Israel.

If Rev. Wright couldn't dissuade Jews from voting for Obama, I'm not sure who can.

How bout that Carnival in Rio?

  3. The word "racist" is so 20th century.

The de rigueur phrase these days is "hater".

And that "plausible deniability" boomerang weapon is outstanding!

You are so behind the times, Griz. The really hip cultural Marxists have vanity plates with sequences like "stp h8", "5no h8r", "dnt h8t", "htz bd0".

  6. What about you, man?

Why not just post about how you believe your own hypothesis before anything is there to support them?

  7. Anonymous wrote about . . . "recognizing that America's interests coincide with its allies---like Israel."

Ah, the old "America's allies" trope! Man I love that one.

America's allies . . . like the Soviet Union! America's allies like France! America's allies like Japan! South Vietnam!

I can never quite remember if it was Disraeli or Gladstone who allegedly huffed to the Queen that "Nations have no permanent allies, nations have permanent interests."

Britain's main historic interest was in preventing the continent of Europe from being under the control of one power, and they found new allies as it was convenient to advance that interest.

So far as I can see, America's only real interest in the Middle East is to maintain enough stability for the extraction of petroleum to proceed relatively smoothly and relatively cheaply.

Every relationship is based on an ongoing calculus of "what does this get me? and what does this cost me?" That is true of you and your friends, you and your spouse, your nation and its allies, it is true of every relationship. And those calculations are ongoing all the time.

I loved my father. (Still do, although he's dead.) I think he's the best man I've ever spent time with. But he could have done things which would have driven me from him "just like that."

Sailer's phrase was "Neocon foreign policy advocates tend to be Jews obsessed with Israel." If you parse carefully, you might see the word "tend" in there.

The first names that came to mind were the Kagans, Feith, and David Horowitz. If they do not have a passionate attachment to Israel, well, quite frankly I'd like to know why not, and think a good bit less of them.

Perhaps if we phrased it more carefully, it might be acceptable. "Jews obsessed with Israel are more common among the ranks of neocon foreign policy advocates than their proportional percentage of the population might otherwise indicate."

And as a citizen of modern America, I feel I must protest against your hideous groupthink about Jews. To call them self-hating not only impugns an entire people, but is practically tantamount to reviving the blood libel!

That last paragraph, my tongue was pretty firmly in my cheek.

  8. One cheer for AIPAC-

Look at Carter's withdrawl of support for the Shah, or Marshall's withdrawl of support for Chaing, or Ted Kennedy's w/o/s for South Vietnam.

Ted Kennedy was supporting fellow socialists, but the other two may have just lost their nerve.

AIPAC is a buffer against a 'casual' withdrawl of American support from Israel. A real, 'Ho, Ho, Ho Chih Minh', 'Yay 9/11-bin Laden was Right' political movement could overwhelm AIPAC, but not just a president suffering from swamp rabbit flashbacks.

  9. Clueless leftist zombies once again point the way to understanding. All one must do to advance in the world is the exact opposite of what they say you must do.

    Therefore:

Hatred is a totally legitimate human emotion. Hatred is a key survival mechanism. Hatred is not to be abolished but harnessed in a just and wise manner.

    And further:

An excellent tactic against enemies is to proscribe their hatreds. Outlaw them. Make their hatreds taboo in their own minds. Then victory will be yours.

And what do we gain from supporting Israel? In biology there are parasitic and there are symbiotic ones. This seems to me like every bit the latter. And I say that as someone who has no problem with America defending Israel's right to exist - just not with billions of taxpayer dollars.

If there's anything to encourage even the anti-Semites to support Israel it's the question of where those 5 million would go. Everyone here knows the answer.

Most Jews need not worry, though, about being obsessed with Israel, as they seem to be more interested in hating themselves and hating Israel.

Yes, Jews hate themselves - that's their real problem!

  11. Blacks might be better at basketball, but your point about affluent white people fearing black service workers is highly contentious and undoubtedly racist (it betrays your own prejudices and fears which you seem to be claiming others share. Indeed, are there even that many blacks who are eager to take up that kind of work? You have *no idea* why affluent whites are not against Hispanic immigration...and this explanation of yours is barely convincing. The fact that you dress it up as a "truth" is laughable.)

Exactly. As for America's Jews, well, our interests don't always coincide. But our interests do coincide with Israel's.

I heard someone say once that the 1965 Immigration Act was pushed in the wake of the 1964 Civil Rights act by employers that didn't like being forced to hire blacks and wanted to import another labor pool option. This guy said it had almost uniform support amongst Southern Dixiecrats. Unfortunately I've never been able to track down the actually vote records on it or any newspaper discussion from the time around it. It'd be an interesting fact if true.

I wouldn't think s on the Dixiecrat thing. There were a lot of black people working in service jobs in the south. I can buy that employers in the North were quite in favor of mass unskilled immigration. That type still is. By that type I mean WSJ readers and capitalists.

But the fear is apparently rational as indicated by well-known crime statistics and by self reporting in GSS surveys as posted on yesterday's and today's inductivist.blogspot.com

  20. well steve, if they said they were speaking truths then Uncle Tim and Co. would go after them no matter what..a better proposal, one day out of the year journalists publish a 'reminder of hate day' were they publish articles that journalists would have published in the days before we started the war to wipe out anti semitism and racism.

The articles you listed would be examples of the sort of 'hate' that would be commonplace if it were not for our new era of "tolerance'.

There's no such thing as neocons and AIPAC has nothing to do with anything related to israel policy, and even if they did them being Jewish has nothing to do with it!

All races are equal on everything....haven't you seen any commercial or TV show, Blacks are egineers, physicists. and so on

  22. Commenters, who are YOU going to hire to mow your lawn or manage your field office: a big loud black youth who can sue you, or a small quiet brown one who dare not?

I'll produce the studies on this after I'm done producing the studies on whether people tend to stay inside during tornadoes.

    Duh!

Shit, in South Africa having black labor in your yard is a veritable death sentence. Most violent robberies here use spies in the labour pool.

Yes, indeed the notorious "litigiousness" of black youths is a massive though unstated concern with the general citizenry.

In fact, during the 1960s and afterward, whenever large numbers of blacks move into a neighborhood, much of the previous population quickly flees lest they be sued...

My point was that Steve was making it seem like Hispanics and Blacks are in competition to be maids in white households, and that affluent whites were encouraging Hispanic immigration because they didn't want to hire blacks.

The reality is that only recently arrived Hispanics are terribly eager to be maids.

Americans who have been here for centuries (which includes blacks, FYI) are not really clamoring for that sort of work.

To look at it another way, if what Steve was claiming is true, then it would undeniably be a hot issue. We'd be hearing daily about whites shunning black service workers in favor of Hispanics.

Steve suffers from a "man with only a hammer" complex in regards to anything racial.

  28. You can't say blacks are better at x, y or z. You can only think it. Even blacks know not to say it. LOL. We are such funny animals. Ask not for whom the bell curves (apologies to whomever first used that line--I think it was Hitchens).

  29. I remember watching Erica Jong insult anti-illegal immigration people on Bill Maher's show. And I remember thinking, well no wonder. In her mind, how could anyone dislike sweet, sweet Rosa, who with a smile cleans up after her and teaches her children spanish, all for $9 an hour. Of course, Jong lives in an exclusive community. Sends her children to exclusive private schools. Illegal immigration is all upside for people like her. The rest of us get to live with the downside.

  30. April 1, 2010:

Most citizens feel a degree contempt for politicians, but not nearly so much as the politicians feel toward them.

All forms of government are really oligarchies in disguise.

The conflict betwen the Israelis and the Palestians is not the titanic moral struggle that both sides make it out to be, but rather a nasty little turf war dressed up in humanistic or theocratic rhetoric (depending upon the intended audience). There is no resolution short of capitulation and flight by one side, and time doesn't favor the Israels.

Schoolroom education beyond the 12th grade is for most students a waste of time and money. We dreamed up higher education first as a way of preparing a clerical class, then amusing gentlemen, then training technicians, then warehousing post-adolescents. It's a luxury that we imagine we can still afford.

The baby boomers are the most pampered, privileged, self-righteous and self-absorbed generation in American history. They equate sophistication and moral rectitude with the capacity to deny objective reality, and subsequent generations will reap the harvest of their delusion long after they themselves have been deservedly forgotten.

It's hard enough for people of the same race, ethnicity, religion, and language to get along, much less people of differing races, ethnicities, religions, and languages. To a considerable degree, people self-segregate out of instinct.

People are selfish, lazy, exploitative, and self-justifying by nature. They will sling all manner of bullshit that suits their interests, and they will soon come to believe it themselves. They need a lot of training, peer pressure, and a certain degree of punishment if they are to behave semi-decently most of the time. Don't expect too much from them.

In brief, human nature is not made to meet a very high standard.

  31. We'd be hearing daily about whites shunning black service workers in favor of Hispanics.

    No, we wouldn't. And aren't.

Only if Whitey is the villain does the story get major coverage. Blacks vs. Hispanics - who cares? (according to the media)

  32. In fact, during the 1960s and afterward, whenever large numbers of blacks move into a neighborhood, much of the previous population quickly flees lest they be sued...

Despite the intended sarcasm, this is entirely true, as I personally witnessed and experienced when I lived in a black neighborhood as the owner/landlord of a 3-family house. Every black person in the neighborhood had a lawsuit going. It was totally normal to them, like playing the lottery. I heard lots of times, "I'll be able to pay the rent when my lawsuit comes through."

Lawsuits don't just happen by chance, so they were always on the lookout for some opportunity. A lot of the news reports about perceived black touchiness about race (e.g. "Teacher sued for reading 'Huckleberry Finn' out loud") are really just a constant radar for potential lawsuits that kicks in under any potential circumstances, and "racism" qualifies, but they'd be just as glad to slip and fall in a grocery store or get hit by a car while in the crosswalk.
