Postjudice

Last week, there was one of those now-traditional Two Minute Hates in the national media, familiar to people as diverse as James Watson, Don Imus, and Michael Richard. This one was directed at a swim club in suburban Philadelphia, which had agreed to allow an inner city daycare center to use its swimming pool each Monday all summer. But after the first visit by 65 black and Hispanic children, the club hastily changed its mind.

Of course, the swim club was denounced universally for "prejudice," but wouldn't the word "postjudice" be more appropriate? After all, before hand, the swim club had presumed that hosting 65 inner city children in its pool (two-thirds of which is deep enough to drown in) would be a swell idea, and only then developed an aversion after they had experience with them.

I look forward to a future in which we will all engage in Obamaoist self-criticism sessions beginning, "I hadn't realized I was postjudiced until ...

I've always used blackjack as an analogy to explain the basis behind discriminating. Sure, not every so and so will do such and such, but enough of them do that it's dumb not to play the percentages. Banning discrimination is like banning thinking, banning math.

How do these people pick a stock, a college, a place to eat lunch? They judge, pre-judge. And if we don't judge, how can we use good judgment?

  3. Imagine 65 out of control ghetto youths in a swimming pool, splashing each other, pushing each other off the diving board, dragging each other under water, and screaming at the top of their lungs. Now imagine some white college student earning minimum wage working as a lifeguard for the summer, trying to tell these kids to knock it off or get the hell out of the pool. What do you suppose those black kids would say and do?

Probably the same things they say and do to white public school teachers who try to discipline them.

I recently changed swimming pools for that very reason - my normal pool was hosting a summer camp for 100+ innner city types, and I just couldn't deal with it.

Among other things, I got to thinking about what the water quality might be like if even only 10% to 20% of them were urinating in the pool.

And God forbid that one of them should show up for camp one day with a case of meningitis.

Anyway, in all the years of going to that pool, I had never witnessed a zoo like what those kids presented.

Probably shouldn't go too far with the "zoo" analogy - for fear of angering Komment Kontrol - but I just sat there at the side of the pool thinking to myself, "zoo, zoo, zoo".

Same kind of deal in our town. The City Council made a decision a couple years ago to close the pool in the "historically black neighborhood." Ostensibly for budget shortfall reasons.
Cue the usual: Cries of Racism! Evil White Majority Oppression! Oh! The poor black children who will have nowhere to swim (for free)! What will become of 'em??? Why, free swimming has cut the juvenile delinquency rate!!

Uh...black kids, many of whom can't swim, through out-of-control horseplay attempting to drown each other is better than painting graffiti?

One day our local version of Biden let slip the REAL reason for the closure...they couldn't get any nice White kids to do the lifeguarding anymore...they'd all gone to work at the Country Club.

  11. Steve, you got into the question of why so many blacks drown in accidents a few years ago:

    http://isteve.blogspot.com/2006/04/more-on-blacks-and-swimming.html

Also, I noticed that a lot of liberals are harping on one part of the story in particular: the claim that one of the white suburban moms had said something like "what are all these black kids doing here? I’m scared they might do something to my child."

Of course commenters suggest that such a concern is pure evil racism. But as you have documented (and as any white kid, such as my humble self, who was ever bused to a majority black elementary school can explain) such a fear is eminently reasonable.

Placing a whole bunch of inner-city black kids in a pool with a bunch of soft-mannered suburban white kids is virtually guaranteed to produce bullying and physical attacks (excuse me, over-enthusiastic horseplay) by the visitors against the locals.

That swim club made a big, big mistake when they rented out their pool.

  14. Urine in swimming pools is not, as was thought for decades, harmless. It combines with chlorine to form irritating compounds. And while most urine is sterile, there are conditions that put pathogens in the urine stream, some very contagious.

Feces and blood-from cuts, mucosal secretion or that old standby menstruation-are virulent carriers of pathogens. Chlorine in the water is not all that effective at controlling them short-term.

Another aside is that inner city type kids and suburban kids in a pool is a disaster even if the inner city types are non-blacks. The suburban kids, raised by suburban mommies and not allowed to get in a good childhood scrap or two, simply are dead meat.

Finally, letting Black kids in general near water, unless you have total command of the situation, and excellent water safety people, is asking for legal trouble because the chance of one's drowning is very high. Their bone mass is higher, they tend to be poor floaters, and they panic easily. And if they are very strong they are a real challenge to rescue.

The pool operators who shut doen in the face of a darkening user base were exercising hard-won experience. They were, in a word, postjudiced.

I don't know what happened that day, and I prefer not to try to imagine.

That swim club made a big, big mistake when they rented out their pool.

But man is that ever true. The hell for them is just beginning:

Attorneys for the day care center said they will sue the swim club in a few days..."The children's best interests are not being served," lawyer Carolyn Nichols said. "Simple lip service does not amount to change."...The day care center also wants the resignation of all swim club board members and the removal of any club members who made the racist comments,...

Going by the foto at the link, this story has definite SWPL pull.

Lost in the ethnic hysteria is that apparently the same swim club had disinvited other groups that were not predominantly non-white.

  16. "and only then developed an aversion after they had experience with them."

That's the operative phrase. Blacks and liberals like to think that whites are just genetically predisposed towards racism and thus evil, whilst of course routinely ignoring their own prejudice. But most white aversion to blacks and other races comes from experience. It's no coincidence, that the whites in southern Africa, who have been numerically swamped by blacks since about 1900, are the most "prejudiced". And in any case, as Steve mentioned someplace before, prejudice is actually a sign of wisdom, because it spares you many uncomfortable and possibly dangerous situations. Perfectly non-prejudiced people are morons. And since liberals are not considered morons, one has to conclude that they are in fact prejudiced, but hide it behind a hypocritical mask.

  22. I'll offer a positive interpretation of this. Middle class whites are just as "racist" as we are! When actually experiencing NAM behavior in person, they're not willfully blind to the dysfunction. SWPLism might be blossoming on Ivy League campuses away from all the NAMs, but have a bunch of blacks in their neighborhood for an hour and maybe they'll start voting Republican.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "Why would black kids be more likely to pee in the pool than white kids?"

On the chance that this question isn't a troll or a joke, I will answer it. Virtually every behavior which results from a lack of consideration for the rights of other people is far more common among blacks than whites.

Whether it's making a lot of noise; engaging in crime; failing to leave a tip; or failing to support one's children, black people are pretty much the forefront of such antisocial behavior.

So while I've never seen a study on the subject or had direct experience, I would be pretty confident in predicting that they also urinate in pools a lot more than whites.

I suppose I too am postjudiced.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "When actually experiencing NAM behavior in person, they're not willfully blind to the dysfunction."

I agree wholeheartedly. More incidents like this, especially in the "Age of Obama", will make race realists of us all.

The media is acting like these well-mannered little black angels meekly tried to "fit in" at the pool. I'm sure the parents and children, if permitted, would tell a much different story. Moreover, as the media continues to feed the grievance about this, these upper-class whites will wake up and realize who is really privileged and who is really oppressed in this country.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And by the way, the only thing that's unusual about this incident was that the pool operator was stupid enough to give this group of children a chance.

It would have been a lot easier to avoid the accusations of racism if the pool operator had said "no" from the beginning with some plausible excuse.

Anyway, it must have been funny to watch the pool owner's face as he watched the total chaos unfold; the disrespect directed towards pool staff; the destruction of property; and the flight of his other customers.

Old meme here on iSteve. Somebody once said the obvious answer is to flood all the upscale places with NAM's, or at least illegals. I remember how sensitively some northern city official reacted to an ad placed in a southern state effectively encouraging illegals to seek out that northern sanctuary. Like Steve often points out, SWPL'ers are subconsciously aware of the stakes, but consciously playing a dirty game to make themselves look good, and at the expense of poor whites and indirectly even NAM’s.

In that sense the "enemy" are not really NAM's, but SWPL'ers, which means Steveniks cannot be accused of racism.

  31. The key issue in this case is not race but freedom of association. The failure of anti-discrimination laws has been its prohibition on allowing individuals to enter into voluntary agreements based on their own preferences and desires. If an individual, such as an owner of a private pool club, chooses to discriminate against others based on race he may not be popular with a large segment of society, however he is not violating the parameters of a free society by doing so.

While practicing racial discrimination may be scorned by much of society it is simply not the role of government to force people into agreements they would not make in the absence of government coercion.

An individual business owner may be forced to practice racial discrimination even if he is not a racist. For example, if the majority of the members of this pool club would prefer not to swim with blacks than the club owner, in order to remain successful, must not allow blacks to enter his pool club. Government can force him to allow people of all races to enter his pool club lest he be punished; however they cannot force the member of the pool club to stay. Most members would simply leave and the club owner’s business would be ruined. The 20th century is loaded with real life examples, similar to the above, of the dangers of anti-discrimination laws.

  32. media has always been bias, but its amazing how others have pointed out, the pool story is never ending front page news and the 50 blacks attacking whites can't squeak past the local papers.
it seems like stories like the pool incident excite media types who think they are somehow carrying the torch of the 1960s again.. while the 50 attacking is reminder of a reality that all to close to all of us.
Also I truly believe the media and our elite believe in a reality of words - dumb as it is - if they can just create this image of the perfect black race, only hindered by white racism, if they can create a pristine world of Obama and his family a young JFK type for a new multicultural america - then somehow all blacks will become doctors lawyers and physicists.

  34. Reminds me of a friend of mine - grew up in a lily-white suburb of D.C., very SWPL. He moved down to New Orleans, in the middle of a black neighborhood. He told me how releived he was to get out of there (oddly enough, Katrina helped him tremendously, since his neighborhood was one of the few not inundated, and his house thus went up in value and he was able to sell at a profit), since he felt himself becomeing more racist every day he actually had to interact with lower-class blacks. He fled to a nice suburb up north, where he can pretend to himself that the few middle class black people he sees are "normal"...

  36. Look, I can easily believe that the club had good reason to decide that the large number of daycare kids was a bad idea for the club's and its member's interests. And I can easily believe that those valid reasons would fall along and confirm traditional ethnic stereotypes, and thus the club is getting a raw deal for merely acknowledging the truth. But the original stance of ISteve of a careful reasoned realistic approach to race is evolving to straight forward ethnic bashing and "blacks are like this, whites like that" expression.

This rather hasty devolution to old fashioned, hard lined, platonic chategory racial prejudice certainly bolsters the case of those who believe this truth is dangerous. This seems a real time experiment in the potential degeneration of this topic once the PC mind control is gone.

  37. All the articles regarding this event read like something's being suppressed. I don't normally trust the media, but in cases like this I can't even take what they say at face value.

All what articles? The only news item I read implied that the kids showed up and had not even entered the pool, but were denied admission simply because of their race. It sounded as if the pool supervisors did not expect the kids to be black. So now it turns out the truth is that the kids did spend that first day in the pool, and were rejected due to their unruly behavior? If this is so, then media coverage has truly reached a new low. Either they report in a cryptic, super-protective manner, or (as in the case of the Ohio story), they don't report at all.

But this does not explain the irresponsibility of the whites. When I first read the story, I couldn't understand why administrators of a private pool would ever agree to such an arrangement in the first place. What's the point of being "private?" By this time in our country's history, how can whites still be so dense about the prospects for trouble when involving themselves with blacks? It's hard to feel sympathy for these truly stupid people, as they now spend years groveling in the court system, and possibly losing their club altogether. Just wait until Reverend Al shows up with the troops!

I predict this swim club will be in the hands of the daycare center in about 1 year. That's basically what all the diversity hysteria amounts to: dispossession.

  41. Lesson learned: discriminate preemptively, get your cover story straight, and keep your mouth shut. Failing that, grin and take it, and count any exodus of existing customers as a cost of doing business. Whatever you do, don't give someone an even break and assume you can cancel later if things don't work out.

It's the same story as employment. Most business owners and managers aren't personally bigoted against minorities, but hiring inexperienced workers, and especially inexperienced workers from ghetto cultures, carries a risk they won't work out. In a sane world you could hire someone to give them a chance, and let them go with no hard feelings if it didn't work out. In our world, white males are the safest people to fire, therefore they are the safest people to take a chance on. Welcome to the world of unintended consequences.

Put another way: you can be nice and academic about things like Steve is being, or get to the same point by being crude, like say the Afrikaners did in South Africa. The endgame is similar. The difference is Steve bothers to get the facts in a straight line in order to give honest liberals a chance, and the brutes in southern Africa just pre-empt the issue and get down to business. Without all the PC hysteria we have nowadays, and the plain stupidity that goes with it, there would not be any Steves.

As far as the idea that PC improves justice or progress, shove it. If the media would do just half an honest body count, say in the US and South Africa, most people would recoil in horror. Instead all these dead people, both black and white, are being swept under the carpet as crime statistics or negligence in poorly staffed and mismanaged hospitals and other institutions, whereas they are the mass graves of PC. We don't even have to think about the financial costs of PC because its even obvious to liberals. And I'm not even going to bother about cultural deprivation and straight dumbing down.

  49. If black mothers and culture held manners in high esteem, the kids would display them. But welfare removes the incentive and so black culture degrades.

Race is injected by extremists on both sides, but on some issues its primarily significant as a cultural demarcator. Any criticism of black culture or child-raising practices (single mothers) is considered racist, which is why bill cosby is only one of a few to do so credibly.

  58. "Well it is certainly illuminating to read posts here. It certainly lends credibility to blacks who claim that racism against them is alive and well."

I doubt any HBDers seriously dispute that there is plenty of racism against blacks. Kinda the point is the original post is that people come to conclusions about blacks not because of ignorance, but based on real world experiences.

Anyway, there is a saying that a "racist" is someone who is winning an argument with a liberal. :)

  59. Oh no! Dr Duesler of the Phillie swim club is a leftie true believer?!

I guess he is getting his Sherman McCoy moment now, in spades. The best thing is that he has no one to whom he can vent.

Shocked that anyone would doubt his leftie bona fides, he wants to say "those blankety-blank fools! How dare they jump to conclusions, accuse me of racism, etc."

Yet that, to his fellow lefties, is going to sound awfully nasty, and... well ... prejudiced.

He'll have to smile, apologize for misspeaking, tug his forelock, and say it is all a little misunderstanding, while his blood pressure goes through the roof, his friends don't respond to his calls, and he is left hanging high and dry being Mau-maued.

    Couldn't happen too nicer guy!

Anyone know his address? I would like to send him a copy of "Mau-mauing the Flakcatchers" and "Bonfire of the Vanities".

I think this is what the lefties call a "teachable moment".

  60. "Placing a whole bunch of inner-city black kids in a pool with a bunch of soft-mannered suburban white kids is virtually guaranteed to produce bullying and physical attacks (excuse me, over-enthusiastic horseplay) by the visitors against the locals."

Exactly what I was thinking! Those young black boys could have saved a whole generation of young white boys from becoming bitter, whiney emasculated aspiring Swipples; Imagine how much better your lives would have been had you had this opportunity at 12!

  61. Like some commentators above, I wonder what actually goes on in the minds of the SWPL folks when they are forced to confront racial issues. Are they delusional, or do they mask the attitudes that they themselves have made unfashionable (and quasi illegal)? If so, why?

We could only hope for this outcome, Falsehood. In reality, it would probably cause them to grow up and project the childhood bullying they experienced onto conservative whites and "middle Americans."

In reality, water is your best friend when being bullied by "inner city" youths. If confronted with physical bullying by this set of people, often the appropriate response is to just drag them into the deep end with you and roll them over a few times like an alligator.

I worked as an ocean lifeguard in an extremely popular Orange County beach and, let me tell you, most of the "inner city" kids (and adults, for that matter), belong in water no deeper than their ankles.

Yes, and reading left-wing blogs is never illuminating. People who post there sprain their wrists patting themselves on the back as to how tolerant and open to diversity they are. One wonders how they manage to sign the checks they write to their kid's all-white prep school, and for the mortgage on their overpriced home in an all-white suburb.

Right on, Truth. You're absolutely right. I thank the gods for the beatdowns I took from the bros when I was a kid. Those beatings taught me to fight. Those beatings taught me to never believe what the men at the media helm said, due to the complete disconnect between what they were telling me and what was actually happening to me. Those beatings taught me that white proclamations about "fair fights" are ridiculous and only have relevancy within the boundaries of an in-group.

The beatings, as you suggest, also infused me with a great disgust for many of the cowardly conservative types, ducking in the burbs and keypunching and mocking my parents' accents, their only acceptable form of hate.

Growing up, I didn't have to waste my time reading enormous tomes on racial differences - the info was passed on to me everytime I got a fist to the cheek. As for my future profs and SWPL peers, I quickly realized that all the garbage those jokers incessantly blabbed came only from mouths that had never been bloodied by the fists of diversity.

I, without a drop of sarcasm, recommend the multicult experience for everyone at a young age. Might as well learn early.

  70. In "going nowhere", Mikulas Kolya writes about a swimming pool in a Long Island town where black kids were bussed in. The protagonist's liberal mother gets beaten in front of him.

  71. I was a lifeguard at a private swimming pool club in the South in the early '80's, and our pool would occasionally rent out the pool after hours to private parties. One evening we hosted a group of black high-school kids who were attending a camp or seminar at the local university. The evening was without incident. My primary memory is that I was appalled at my Cuban-American co-worker's remark to one of the female swimmers; he told her she had it made because of her black/female affirmative-action double whammy. Pretty amusing in retrospect.

Has your blog 'RoadSoda' ever been active?

I tried navigating to it a couple of times from i-Steve-O and there are never any articles on it.

Don't have to get snarky. My line of work doesn't allow me to put names on comments. I've always assumed yours doesn't either.

I stick up for you a lot here. Am I to assume that you were being facetious when you wrote the comment I referenced? Because I wasn't in mine.

Actually, I think the only person who puts their name on anything on this blog is Steve, or is "Truth" your real name - pronounced "Troof" in your vernacular? Yo momma named you 'Truth'?

  77. That's a peeve of mine: Liberals who try to make something of the fact that most HBDers choose to express themselves anonymously.

The fact is that anyone who publicly challenges the Egalitarian Lie faces castigation and persecution.

Why is it unreasonable to protect onesself under the circumstances?

Buddy, must you confront me with my own looserhood?

I've been avoiding my original plan of blogging with a plethora of limp dick excused such as "I'm too busy" (which I'm not), but damn it, now I'm going to do it, I pledge one peice a week for the rest of the year (sorry I cant be like Steve-O yet).

Oh, don't take offense here Hommie, Unfortunately, I cannot tell one Anonymous from another here. Therein lies the entire problem; I didn't say to put YOUR name, simply chose A name, and stick to it so that we can get to know each other and become one big happy family. We 160 IQ folks need to stick together in opposition to the encroaching dark masses you know.

  80. The main reason I comment anonymously here is that this site's software won't allow me to enter a name unless I have javascript enabled in my browser. I normally keep javascript disabled in order to be safer from viruses, and because I can't stand seeing ads that move.

And then when I want to comment here I would have to drill thru several micro-shit screens to turn on java, which is a pain. So I just use anonymous.

If the site's software could be upgraded to allow names without java, that would be great.
