The Usual Drill

When a celebrity gets so out of control that he winds up arrested, the typical routine in the 21st Century is that about a week later his publicist issues a press release saying that he's entered rehab to work on some issues and that his family requests that the media respect their privacy.

On the other hand, publicly pitching a reality TV show based on your meltdown is the kind of idea that mostly occurs to the lesser members of the Lohan family. And, apparently, to Harvard department chairmen.

  2. Only if its a white celeb. The Obama's and Gates can act assy and ge away with it. Imagine a white prez attacking a black police officer telling him he did something stupid? The press would be besides themselves.

  3. Don't forget finding Jesus.

(attacking Christianity at this point may be compared to walking into a palliative care unit and stabbing the terminally ill; still, it's part of the drill.)

"Or he's leaving his current high-pressure job to "spend more time with his family"."

Remember back in the days before the breakdown of the American family when people never quit their jobs or signed with a certain pro team because of family considerations? Something doesn't quite add up here...

  5. "Prof Gates added that he hoped his arrest would lead to a greater understanding about racial profiling in America."

“If my experience leads to the lessening of the occurrence of racial profiling, then I would find that enormously gratifying,” Gates said on The Root.

“Because, in the end, this is not about me at all; it is about the creation of a society in which ’equal justice before law’ is a lived reality.”

  7. Skip doesn't need alcoholism, he has jetlag as a proximate cause. He'll give one of those non-apology apologies where he regrets having given offence, followed by some boilerplate about the legacy of discrimination. "I may seem wrong, but deep down, I'm right."

He's a clever guy, so it will be interesting to see how he does it.

  8. A little off-topic but with the same players.
If this incident were a scene in "The Godfather" we would already know what stopping by for a beer leads to.
The Godfather has been made to look foolish (albeit a self-inflicted wound) and now the blamed outside source of his discomfort is asked to come over for a beer.
Please Officer Crowley, DON"T DO IT! Find "Joe The Plumber"; ask him for some advice.
Tell the White House "Thanks but no thanks. I cannot have the appearance of being used for political purposes."
Don't go for that beer, ...unless of course you're already negotiating for a top position as a "Profiling Expert-Special Adviser" within the administration.

  9. I wish the Gates story would just die.

It's bread and circuses in the middle of our civilization's demographic, economic and cultural collapse.

  10. Steve --

Both Octomom and "John and Kate Plus 8" John Gosselin have signed for their own reality shows.

Gosselin himself might have stepped out of "Hot Chicks with D-bags" website, and has his own reality show. [His new pal is ... Michael Lohan.]

There seems to be an endless appetite for this sort of thing.

What I'd like to see is Skippy Gates forced to spend three months in a house with Flavor Flav. That would be worth watching.

  11. One current celeb who has diarreha-of-the-mouth is the indeed sexy Meagan Fox. She's really a dim bulb, and it would help her image if she would keep her mouth zipped.

  12. Does this mean there won't be a "Gates plus 5-0" reality show?

I recommend last year's interview with Skip Gates in Martha's Vineyard Magazine.
The picture of him riding his adult tricycle is priceless. He doesn't look like an angry black man, but a happy five year old.

Gates loves Martha's Vineyard largely because you are surrounded by the right sort of black people there. As he puts it, "the Island must have the highest concentration in the world of successful, middle- and upper-class black people. If you’re a successful black person, chances are you’ve raised your children in predominantly white neighborhoods, and they’ve attended predominantly white schools. Martha’s Vineyard allows the black upper-middle class to get to know each other, and it allows our children to socialize every day with other black children – and white children – of their same educational and economic backgrounds. This is particularly valuable for mixed-race children: They don’t feel abnormal for being smart and the children of successful people. This performs a very important function within the African American community."

In a 1994 interview Gates gave booknotes.org, he says, "My mother hated white people. . . . But she wanted us to go to integrated schools. She wanted us to live in an integrated economy. She wanted us even to live in integrated neighborhoods. She wanted us to be able to get the best that American society offered. She wanted us to be articulate, to speak white English, as we would call it, as well as black vernacular English. You know, she wanted us to know how to dress, how to talk, how to act, how to behave. She wanted us to go to private schools, to the Ivy League. I mean, she wanted us to be as successful as it was humanly possible to be in American society. But she always wanted us to remember, first and last, that we were black and that you could never trust white people. And so when I brought my fiancee home, who happened to be a white American, I thought World War III was about to break out between me and my mother, not to mention between my mother and my fiancee."

Apparently, Gates' mother did not succeed in imbuing him with her her distrust of whites, or at least not the womenfolk. Gates had two daughters with his first wife, Sharon Lynn Adams, and his current wife is also white.

  14. "One current celeb who has diarreha-of-the-mouth is the indeed sexy Meagan Fox."

    Mmm-hmm, examples:

Megan Fox: “I would never date a girl who was bisexual, because that means they also sleep with men, and men are so dirty that I'd never want to sleep with a girl who had slept with a man.”'

    http://news.mensactivism.org/node/12480

    Meagan Fox on men:

"They're boys - they're easily toyed with. I tell stories and have them eating out of my hand."

"I've lived the life of a 35-year-old since I was 18. I'm so suspicious of boys-slash-men. I just don't like them or trust them....I'm not going to be married - I'm not the marrying type. I know people will say, 'Why are you engaged if you're not the marrying type?'"

"I am impulsive and I love my boyfriend, but I have no plans of getting married any time soon."

Meagan Fox on men: "Weak. Like puppies."

    http://www.topsocialite.com/megan-fox-men-are-weak-like-puppies/

The North Koreans don't put up with that crap. They'd send her to Camp Glorious Revolutionary Heroes Number 40343 where she'd break boulders 18 hours a day and be fed two grains of rice daily (or, double her caloric intake as an Anorexiawood celeb), and they'd be entirely justified in doing so to her counter revolutionary ass.

"On the other hand, publicly pitching a reality TV show based on your meltdown..."

Hasn't it already been done (Cops)? Bad boys bad boys, whatchoogonnadoo...

"the Island must have the highest concentration in the world of successful, middle- and upper-class black people. "

Statistically, that would be (I think) Silver Spring, Maryland, home of the Affirmative Actionocracy and richest black zip code in America. Spent time there, billeted with a black family, an interesting experience.

  17. In the previously quoted interview Gates says, "I have a good memory for faces, but a terrible memory for names. It’s genetic."

    http://www.mvmagazine.com/article.php?17721

And, holy shit, he rides a tricycle around on the walking paths:

"Anyone who passes me on the bike path gets the bell treatment, especially beautiful women, and that bell is just irresistible."

    "The tones are just magical."

    OMG!

Have the wymmyn's sisterhood heard about this unreconstructed sexist rampaging (tricycling anyway) loose on the streets? Or does he gat a free pass for some reason that I can't quite fathom?

  19. Speaking of PBS, Charlie Rose devoted much of his show of Friday, 7/24/09 to Gatesgate. Once archived, it will be accessible here. The discussion is most enjoyable because of the un-selfconsciousness of interviewee David Remnick, the urbane yet casually elegant editor of the New Yorker. Remnick was taken with the racehealing post-racialness of Dear Leader's walkaback from "stupid cop." So smitten that he appears to be near tears even on the second and third mentions.

Reminiscent of In The Know at The Onion, before it was bought by the Chinese.

  20. The other night at the Cantab Lounge, Gates blasted out this poem:

They’re drawn to my sexy red tricycle.

And the secret is my bell.

Anyone who passes me on the bike path gets the bell

    treatment,

    especially
    beautiful
    women,

    and that bell is just

    irremisistible.

"The Root" has gone into overdrive to defend Gates and defame Crowley. The website was do-founded by Gates:

    http://www.theroot.com/press

Gates: " I come from a very close family, but my mother and I were particularly close."

"My mother hated white people. "

Gates is married to a white woman (I think it's his second wife."

But we're not supposed to talk about it.

    http://newsone.blackplanet.com/nation/opinion-the-thing-about-skip-gates-that-we%E2%80%99re-not-supposed-to-mention/

    You do the Freud.

"Gates can't be an anti-white racist. He's married to a white woman."

    Alternative explanation:

"He's a serial white-woman marrier because he loves the idea of dominating, humiliating and abusing a white person."

  24. Speaking of WWIII with Gates' mama:

Susan B. Anthony started her life efforts in reform with the abolition of slavery in 1849. Once she realized women could not be effective reformers without the right to vote, she became the noted women's rights and suffragist we teach our children about in school. She died 14 years, 5 months and 5 days before passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote in 1920.

50 years after she went to her friend, Frederick Douglass, to ask for his support including a woman's right to vote along with black males in the 15th Amendment in 1870. It was not the time for universal suffrage over black’s momentum, he felt.

2 years later, Anthony was arrested and convicted for voting, while Douglass' bank failed in 1872. 14 years later, the National Woman Suffrage Association annual convention praises Wyoming as the first state to give women the vote, while Douglass marries his second wife, a white woman in 1884.

    My hands on your handlebars.
    I’ve taught here before
    I’ll turn the truth
Whatever it takes to let him go
    Roller skates figure eights
Roll me away and I won’t complain
I’ll bring my street cred and ebonics

  25. Something smells about the accuser, La Whalen.

"Whalen has for more than 15 years worked for Harvard in an office about 100 yards from Gates’s home, according to Murphy [her lawyer]."

    Story HERE.

She works 100 yards away for 15 years. Doesn't she know Gates? She claims she saw him only from the back. Of course, it's impossible to identify anyone from behind. She also claims, in the same story, that she had absolutely no idea the two men were black. Of course, it's impossible to identify the race of two men in broad daylight, from behind, in summer.

Apparently under police grilling she admitted that one of them "looked Hispanic."

An incurious, blind, and pusillanimous witness - but very concerned! Nominate her for head of the Citizen Patrol. Mrs. Kravitz, call your curtain!

Crime is so bad that any report is serious and valid on its face and should be followed up on. I, myself, heard that there is incest in a certain church out west and that the church members collect rifles...those kids deserve protection...I may just make a phone call to the FBI...
