What does fugitive Marc Rich have that Roman Polanski doesn't?

A Presidential pardon.

I reviewed why Bill Clinton gave Marc Rich a pardon here.

I can't help posting this quote from Harvey Weinstein in the LA Times:
"Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion," Weinstein said. "We were the people who did the fundraising telethon for the victims of 9/11."

  1. Did Polanski even ask Clinton for one, or was he too arrogant to do so? Clinton would have been a slam dunk.

  2. Re Polanski, the state of California is broke and under a court order to reduce inmate populations. Given that he is 76 and not a US resident, his judge would best serve the public interest by finding a creative way to fine him $1,000,000, sentence him to time served, and require him to leave the country within 48 hours. (Creative because the statutory rape statute doesn't provide for a fine, only imprisonment.)

Unlike Roman Polanski, Marc Rich also had powerful friends in the Israeli cabinet and the Mossad.

You may draw your own conclusions about these facts.

  5. Polanski has some literary fame which cannot be turned into more dollars than what he needs for a comfortable lifestyle. Rich has plenty of oil dollars with which he got the Israeli's (Barak) to speak to Clinton, with which he greased Clinton, and with which he greased the Swiss to go live there.

Polanski is interesting because it brings out all the liberal rats and pedophiles in high places all over Europe and shows how close liberalsm and depravity are, which is what serious Christians have always suspected. It shows what a sick lot the Euro elite are and explains a lot about things like Islamization, illegal immigration, centralization of the EU state etc. If so many elites mainly worry about raping 11-year olds, their priorities are not going to be the same as that of the average family father or mother.

  8. SF,

Can a U.S. judge sentence someone to time already served in a Swiss jail? Or were you referring to the time he'd serve in an American jail prior to trial?

Maybe Polanski should be sentenced to having sex with a woman his own age or older.

  11. Harvey Weinstein, who is circulating the pro-Polanski petition, wrote: "Whatever you think about the so-called crime..."

Yeah, who's to say that giving a 13 year-old girl booze and quaadludes so she'll pass out, and then busting her hymen is wrong?

  12. Sabril is right. We have, or at least we had, this thing called federalism. The President can pardon people for federal crimes. A state's governor can grant pardons for state crimes. Or however that state decides to do things. Cali governors want to be President, and pardoning a man who rapes children is (hopefully) a career killer.

Even if Clinton could have pardoned Polanski, let's not get all moral relativist here. Marc Rich getting pardoned when didn't deserve it does not mean Polanski should get a pardon out of "fairness".

I feel I should pre-apologize for my unsanitary and unaesthetic language. But Politics and the English Language and such.

Polanski ass-fucked an unwilling 13year old girl. He drugged the shit out of her to get "consent". That didn't work well enough, so he just forced her.

Polanski could have gotten shit on his dick consensually from a 8th or 9th grader, and wouldn't have come to the criminal justice system's attention. He decided not to.

After he got convicted, he ran. Additional punishment if he got caught again was a risk he took willingly. The victim wants it to go away, and she deserves to be left alone, but Polanski's violation was not a private crime.

Do people think he only committed statutory rape, well sodomy? That would explain why people think it was not a big deal.

Polanski is among the very few who deserves what a prison sentence actually means for white men. Well he deserves it once.

He can use his time in prison to contemplate his crimes and soul. If he can't do that, at least he'll spend some time in a cage.

Terrible things happened to him and people he loved. He might have developed empathy for people used to sate savage desires.

He could have used that pain. Instead he used a little girl.

The only thing Clinton could have issued a pardon for was for flight across state lines to avoid prosecution, which, unlike statutory rape, is a federal offense.

  16. I clearly remember when I was a teenager, men would talk about beating up or killing homosexuals. Most of the media still referred to it as the love that dares not speak its name. Everybody considered male homosexuality to be a disgusting perversion.

That all changed somehow. Today we have "gay pride". Web dating sites usually have a section for same sex hooking up. For the past dozen years or so only child sex or child pornography has remained as a taboo. Web dating sites are very, very careful that all of their customers are not seeking sex with minors.

That may be changing too. This Polanski case attracts a lot of media personalities who seem to be saying that sex with kids is OK - don't be uptight.

In fact the hysteria about the evils of child sex was probably overwrought. Sexually abused kids were not as permanently traumatized as some Congress critters claimed. Children do heal. The revelation that the Roman Catholic church condoned pederasty drove many to hate the Church but others it seems concluded that if these kindly parish priests liked to diddle boys then maybe child abuse wasn't so bad after all.

It looks like the "liberal" and "enlightened" viewpoint is becoming tolerance for statutory rape and child buggery.

The Roissy crowd and the "guys who are turned on by girls who are turned on by serial killers" can argue about whether the women actually ENJOY being whored out.

This post is a good example of why conservatives get no respect.

First comes the outright lie that the victim was 11, when in fact she was 13. Never let facts get in the way of a good conservative opinion.

Second comes the vicious slander of "pedophile". This is the conservative equivalent of the liberal taunt "racist", and it's used just as sloppily. Polanski is not a pedophile. He had sex with a young woman, not a girl. Only a totalitarian conservative would think the biological process of puberty is an artificial construct that gets in the way of what really matters - social restrictions.

I couldn't agree more. I enjoy watching the sniping between when the libertines and the feminists, that is the few feminists principled enough not to apply situational ethics to this matter. I have refused to knowingly watch films with stars that appeared in Polanski post-1977 or Allen films post Soon Yi. It's too bad, because they are both skilled directors.

Munich is known as the site of the culmination of the policy of appeasement employed by Britain and France leading up to World War II. It was in Munich that British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain assented to the annexation of Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland region into Greater Germany in the hopes of sating the desires of Hitler's Third Reich.

Kazan - hounded to his grave for five decades, merely for taking an unfashionable political stance. No one in Hollywood suggested he be forgiven because he was a brilliant filmmaker, an old man, or because his "crime" was fifty years ago.

Polanski -- committed a heinous crime against a child. Hollywood says he needs to be forgiven because he's a) a brilliant filmmaker b) an old man or c) because his crime was thirty years ago.

  36. "My understanding is that the 13 year old was not a virgin, which mitigates the crime a little in my mind."

I'd be inclined to agree with you but,

*she resisted repeatedly, going so far as to fake asthma to have an excuse to get away from him and she did this in spite of the drugs and fear

*she was only 13 and immature emotionally. Sexual activity on the part of children is always the fault of the parents. This is an unpopular sentiment, but for millenia, parents and other elders never left children alone at this age.

Which brings us to this: a child with liberal, delusional parents do not do right by them when they leave them unsupervised with males sexually interested in them. It's not a matter of if, but when, he seduces her. To be left with an amoral older man who was willing, and did, use physical and emotional means, and ultimately force, is like putting a baby mouse in a cage with a rattlesnake.

How weird is it that Polanski makes a movie about a man who gives his newborn baby to the Devil in exchange for showbiz success and then two years later Polanski's own pregnant wife is ritually murdered by Manson crazies? There is something really evil about that guy.

  40. There is something really evil about that guy.

No kidding - The Ninth Gate is not exactly the sort of thing you'd expect to see out of a man who lived to see his own child ripped out of his wife's belly.

I know that the Manson folks are supposed to have stumbled upon the Polanski home by accident, but that always struck me as just a little too tidy, and just a little too much of a coincidence.

I can't shake the suspicion that either they had been influenced by Rosemary's Baby [and sought out Polanksi], or maybe that Polanski himself might have been involved somehow.

A: As a conservative the last thing I need is respect from MSM street. Let them hate me.

First comes the outright lie that the victim was 11, when in fact she was 13. Never let facts get in the way of a good conservative opinion.

A: He himself bragged that he had them as young as 11. What apparently puzzles him is why they want to bust him for banging a 13 year-old when he even had 11 year-olds. I'm just using his own statements. Anyway, what's 2 years got to do with it? She was still a kid. Go look at the face of any 13 year old and honestly tell me it’s normal to have sex with them! You have to be sick to believe that.

Second comes the vicious slander of "pedophile". This is the conservative equivalent of the liberal taunt "racist", and it's used just as sloppily. Polanski is not a pedophile.

A: Sorry, but here in any western nation men are being routinely busted for having sex with 13 year-olds. It means the end of their careers and family lives and ruins their reputations for ever. Even well known politicians have been busted over the years. It's the only crime which the public unanimously gets irate over and supports the police with. In fact, if I were to download kiddy-porn depicting nude 13-year olds I can look forward to receiving an arrest warrant. So how is Polanski not held to this standard? Is he not a human being?

He had sex with a young woman, not a girl. Only a totalitarian conservative would think the biological process of puberty is an artificial construct that gets in the way of what really matters - social restrictions.

A: By any definition 13 is still a girl, not a woman. There is a reason why coming of age is at 18 and not 13. The fact that many 13 year-olds are “doing it” is a disgrace and a direct result of the depravity and perversion which is Hollywood.

The Polanski affair just illustrates again that the motor driving liberalism is the desire for freedom from the effects of sin. That's why the waxing of liebralsm went hand-in-hand with increased depravity, and this is also the reason why the elites cannot take care of the nations which they usurped. Coz they are in power for the wrong reasons.

Each state sets the bar between "woman" and "girl." It is usually 16 sometimes 18; in every state it is older than 13 therefore the victim in this case is a girl. Period.

And to those of you who are saying that the girl was not a virgin so this mitigates your opinion somehow, I felt the same way about the Simpson murders: His victims were a waiter and a useless coke whore, he was a revered and famous man, so I think OJ should have just been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery or something.

I understand that it's not so much about the Polanksis as the house they lived in. Before they lived there it was home to a music producer called Terry Melcher who Manson was introduced to by Dennis Wilson (of the Beach Boys). Melcher agreed to listen to Manson, but he decided against producing him. Manson (being unstable) decided that Melcher had made him a promise that he had failed to live up to. Supposedly he was turned away at that house by a photographer friend of Sharon Tate when he came there to confront Melcher, ergo him assigning it as a target. I believe the other house was chosen at random.

Manson still wants to be a famous musician, he apparently wants to collaborate with Phil Spector.

Polanski may not be a paedophile (the girl probably wasn't pre-pubescent) but he is a sex offender and child abuser. How are nonces treated in American prisons?
