Second non-West African sprinter breaks 10 seconds

From the LA Examiner:

Christophe Lemaitre of France joined an elite club today, July 9, 2010, at the French Championships by running the first sub-10 second 100 meters by a white male sprinter. The 19 year old French sprinter ran 9.98 seconds, good enough for the win, a new national French record and his name in the track and field record books as the first non-African to dip under the ten second barrier for 100 meters.

That "first non-African" bit is actually not true. Patrick Johnson of Australia, who is half Irish - half Aboriginal, ran 9.93 in 2003, with a 1.8 meter per second tailwind (the legal maximum is 2.0 mps). Also Marian Woronin of Poland is said to have run very slightly under 10.00, but had it rounded up to an official 10.00. (Woronin's tailwind was a 2.0, just at the maximum.) Koji Ito of Japan ran 10.00 with a 1.9 tailwind. (There have been quite a number of fine Japanese 100m men since the 1930s.)

Lemaitre's performance was in Valence, France, which is at modest altitude, so this isn't one of those fluke high altitude sprint marks. He'd run under 10.10 five times already this season, best of 10.02, so this wasn't unexpected. The wind was 1.3 mps, favorable but hardly anomalous.

The current record is Usain Bolt's 9.58 in 2009. Before today, the 10.00 barrier had been officially broken 446 times, 445 of those times by men of West African descent.

By the way, no East African has broken 10.00. The best any Brazilian black has run is 10.02. The best 100m men tend to be from the West African diaspora, but men running for Nigeria have broken ten flat 21 times, and also a Nigerian rented by Portugal has done it under Portuguese colors a few times. Other West African countries have a number of times under ten flat, so West Africa would dominate the men's 100m if not for the West African diaspora.

  1. I guess the next goal for blacks is to break 9.00.

  3. the wind was 1.3 not 1.8.

lemaitre is faster at age 20 than the fastest 3 guys of all-time were when they were 20. personal bests at age 20:

    9.98 christophe lemaitre
    10.03 usain bolt
    10.08 tyson gay
    10.12 asafa powell

but watch out for jamaican sprinter yohan blake! last year, blake ran a 9.93 into -0.2 wind at age 19.

blake is probably the fastest young sprinter ever.

the fastest young american ever is j-mee samuels (yes, his real name) who ran 10.08 when he was 18. but he never got faster. he actually got slower.

  4. correction: usain bolt ran 10.03 when he was 21, not 20.

carl lewis' best time at age 20 was 10.00.

if you look at the IAAF site and check the 100 meter times for 2010, it's so obvious that euro americans are not even trying to sprint. they have been totally "caste system'd" out of sprints by the current US sports environment. IE blacks only, please.

if they were trying to sprint, one of them probably would have been the first to cover 100 in 9 seconds, seeing as how there are 200 million of them.

in 2010, there are about 15 europeans and 5 east asians under 10.30. euro americans are nowhere to be found. italy and germany each have 4 guys under 10.30, australia has 2, and so forth. in 2008, the qualifying time for US olympic trials was 10.28, and there was not a single european american qualified.

the fastest euro american right now is probably still trey hardee, the 2009 world champion in decathlon. LOL! it's ridiculous.

Which means that Bolt is almost certainly doped up.

Carl Lewis might have been the last of the clean athletes [at least at age 20, in 1981].

    You know what's really scary?

Those times would barely - JUST BARELY - have allowed them to beat Florence Griffith Joyner, at 10.49.

[Even if FloJo were doped up, that's still an amazing time.]

Being unable to beat even the black GIRLS in elementary school running races would tend to "cast" you out pretty quickly.

  6. "Which means that Bolt is almost certainly doped up."

Yeah, of course he is doped up, but at least he doesn`t seem to have that kind of a huge lama like tongue that Maurice Green and other of that era had. God bless the HGH tests.

  7. "Which means that Bolt is almost certainly doped up."

but that was the first time he was allowed to run 100 meters in competition. so it is possible he is not using sports drugs. before he was 21, he was running 200 meters and 400 meters in competition because he is tall, and 100 meter sprinters are supposed to be short. his coaches were stereotyping him. he turned out to be a lot better at 100 meters than 400 meters. after training for years he has never run 44 seconds in 400 meters. tyson gay, who is short, and who does not train specifically for 400 meters, was able to go 44 this year, and that was even after returning from an injury.

now we have a lot of evidence that tall sprinters can run very fast. bolt is 6-5 and lemaitre is 6-2.

"Carl Lewis might have been the last of the clean athletes"

there are plenty of track & field leaders who are not using sports drugs. but now it is hard to tell them apart from the drug users because there are so many drug users.

some of the world records are drug records from 15 years ago which nobody can get close to today. randy barnes' shot put record, javier sotomayor's high jump record are obvious drug records.

  8. "Those times would barely - JUST BARELY - have allowed them to beat Florence Griffith Joyner, at 10.49."

10.30 is a lot faster than 10.49, and those guys do several runs per year in the 10.1 to 10.3 range. the fastest guys have personal records down in the 10.0 range. simone collio ran 10.06 last year, and ramil guliyev went 10.08. joyner ran 10.49 one single time and was never close to that again. no woman has ever been close to that again, because joyner was on a lot of sports drugs. it was the 1980s, the height of the track & field cold war. the next fastest woman was another black american on lots of sports drugs, marion jones, and the fastest she was able to go was 10.65.

100 meters is short, and not a lot of distance to cover. men are a lot faster than women, but over 100 meters they can only get 1 second ahead of women. the further the distance, the further men get ahead of women.

otherwise we're stuck making jokes about how usain bolt is actually pretty slow because he can't even beat florence joyner by 1 full second. what kind of world record holder can't even open up a 1 second gap over a woman from 20 years ago? not a fast one, that's for sure.

"Being unable to beat even the black GIRLS in elementary school running races would tend to "cast" you out pretty quickly."

yeah, that's it. they can't even beat elementary school girls. what is this, a year 2010 american television commercial where every white man is a bumbling moron?

LOL. it's so obvious at this point that euro american athletes face widespread discrimination. the NCAA participates in lawsuit worthy levels of discrimination against them in recruitment every year. in sports, they now receive treatment which africans in the US used to deal with.

  9. What about Jeremy Wariner? He runs the 200 in a good time.

I am guessing that he's probably still the fastest white American in the 100, even though he doesn't train specifically for that.

  10. Another record fell a couple months ago...

"American Chris Solinsky made an auspicious debut in the 10,000m Saturday night at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University and came away with an historic win by becoming the first non-African to break the 27-minute barrier with a stunning 26:59.60 victory. It was a North American area record, and not surprisingly, a world-leading mark."

"The 6'1", 160-pound Solinsky is also the first man over 6 feet and over 141 pounds to break the 27-minute barrier.[5]"

  11. another way we know that euro americans are caste systemed out of sprinting in the US, despite some of them having the potential to perform at the international level: they perform relatively well at the international level in events which they are not caste systemed out of, and are often able to become the best genetically european runners in an event.

if an event is something which black americans are very good at on average, euro americans barely exist at the international level, while other majority european nations fields many competitors who are better than every single euro american. what is so special about the sprinters in italy or germany or australia? aren't they genetically italian or german or english? doesn't the united states have hundreds of millions of italian, german, and english people? why are there literally 20 sprinters in italy, germany, and australia faster than the fastest european american? it's because in the US, european americans are told, every single day, that they are slow, that they should leave sprinting to the blacks, that they are stupid if they think they have any talent for this kind of thing.

but if an event is something which black americans are not as good at on average, suddenly not only are there plenty of euro americans competing at the international level, euro americans are often among the best european competitors.

only 6 guys who were not born in east africa have ever run 5000 meters in under 13 minutes. 3 of them are euro americans. only 1 guy who was not born in east africa has ever run 10000 meters under 27 minutes, and that's chris solinsky, another euro american. west africans are not good beyond 800 meters, so the euro americans with the most potential are still allowed to be developed, encouraged, recruited, and trained for those events. but not sprints, because americans already "know for sure" that not a single european has any potential whatsoever. even seeing europeans from other nations prove otherwise still does not change their mind. blacks only, please, from now until eternity.

if the US had never participated in the african slave trade, and was as european as australia, it is very likely that a euro american would have been the first european to run 100 meters in 9 seconds. because the talent pool is 200 million europeans in the US, and they wouldn't have people telling them directly to their face, every single day, that they can't do it, and should forget it.

  14. Guys body type reminds me of that of Bannister -- slightly out of proportion for a white man. Legs too long *and* big, buttocks too protruding.

One thing he doesn't seem to have is the super massive upper body of many black sprinters, so I'll bet he is not doping.

  15. Given that this is an HBD site, I was waiting for someone to propose as an explanation for LeMaitre’s success that the French have been under strong natural selection in recent centuries for being able to run away from their enemies. ;-)

“correction: usain bolt ran 10.03 when he was 21, not 20.”

“Which means that Bolt is almost certainly doped up.”

“so it is possible he is not using sports drugs… now we have a lot of evidence that tall sprinters can run very fast. bolt is 6-5 and lemaitre is 6-2.”

When Bolt was 21, he was 6’5” and weighted 168 lbs. Just before the Beijing Olympics he took the winter off from competition and reemerged much bigger and running sub-10s. He now weighs 207 lbs. IMO he certainly juiced up. As for the contention that tall sprinters can run fast, I think PEDs have a lot to do with this. A tall frame has a lot of inherent leverage advantages, but it also has a lot of torque and people don’t get proportionately stronger as they get larger, so in practice it can be hard to exploit these advantages without PEDs making tall athletes stronger so that they can take advantage of their frames. I think you see this in a lot of other sports too. For example, there seems to be a lot of baseball field position players in the 6’4” to 6’6” range these days. Up through the 90s these were very rare (traditionally baseball players were overwhelmingly in the 5’7” to 6’3” range). Why should this be? We know from the NCHS NHANES survey data that American whites and blacks have not gotten more than a few millimeters taller since the 1950 birth cohort. I suspect that a lot of the taller players in baseball (and this goes for other sports too like, e.g., football and tennis) couldn’t move their bodies well enough without PEDs. I suspect that PEDs have disproportionately helped tall athletes succeed.

You don't know anything about track and field. Two tenths of a second in the 100 meters is not "just barely", it's huge.

  17. But, Jody, if you had a superfast 10-year-old son, would you want him to concentrate on the 100m? If track, why not something more technical like the triple jump? Or centerfielder? Or soccer player?

The funny thing is that there exists no biological explanation for the current dominance of blacks in the 400 m. It has little to do with fast-twitch muscle fibers, because their proportion in 400 m runners is already below the West African average, closer to the European one. And considering that 400 m runners must be exceptionally tall (188 cm, 6'2), this is a clear hindrance for blacks, who are small both in Africa and the Caribbean (Jamaica: 173 cm) and of moderate height in USA (178 cm). In other words, the current situation we see in the 400 m is mainly cultural: People think that the 400 m is a sprint="a black event".

  20. Stumbled upon this very entertaining forum 7 years too late... Solid chat, potentially bordering on eugenics? Also love the quote, regarding an average height of 178cm as unacceptable to succeed - the world average height for men is significantly below this... Someone said the words 'fast twitch'?? Might be on to something there... Would love to hear more about this caste systeming and if it has changed in the last 7 years.
