From the New York Times, a 2007 story about a coaching sex scandal at Penn State, where most of the article is devoted to worrying about whether bigots will get the wrong message from the news:

In Recruiting Season, Mistrust Is Raised at L.S.U.
By JERÉ LONGMAN
Now that the women’s college basketball season has ended, many coaches are on the road recruiting through mid-May. And, some said in recent interviews, they could face fallout from last month’s resignation of Pokey Chatman from Louisiana State, following charges of what the university described yesterday for the first time as inappropriate sexual relationships between her and former players.
“This is everyone’s worst nightmare,” Mary Jo Kane, director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport at the University of Minnesota, said during widespread discussion of the Chatman case during the N.C.A.A. tournament.
At its heart, L.S.U. officials said, the Chatman case is about abuse of trust or power. Yet some coaches, administrators and academics say they fear that the accusations against Chatman will inflame homophobia; reinforce stereotypes of lesbians as sexual predators; lead to more so-called negative recruiting, or attempts to steer players away from coaches suspected of being gay; increase skepticism toward the hiring of single women as head coaches; and scare the parents of potential recruits.
“I think there are coaches who may try to use this against any female coaches who are not married and just make innuendo, to put fear in some players’ minds or parents’ minds,” said Gail Goestenkors, the former Duke coach who moved this month to the University of Texas. “That happens sometimes now anyway. I think that will fuel the fire a little bit.” ...
The most immediate impact of the Chatman case, some coaches said during the N.C.A.A. tournament, may be an increase in negative recruiting. Coaches and administrators disagree on how widespread the role of suspected lesbianism plays in pitting one university against another, but many agree the practice exists in a manner that can be subtle and overt....
Sometimes, coaches say, sexual orientation becomes a blunt tool in recruiting, with a rival coach saying to a prospective player or her parents: “You don’t want to go to this school because the coach is a lesbian or there are lesbians on the team.”
A coach who is described as being a lesbian becomes almost defenseless in confronting such claims, left with the choice of denying it or saying, “I am but I won’t bother your daughter,” said Linda Carpenter, emeritus professor of physical education at Brooklyn College who has studied the participation of women in sports for three decades.
“It gives fodder to people looking for a reason to carve out an area where women need not apply,” Carpenter said. ...
Kane, the sports sociologist at Minnesota, said she once heard a female coach say that the best coaching qualifications for a woman are to be divorced with no children. This ostensibly establishes her heterosexuality while leaving her free to hit the road on recruiting trips.
Chatman has been replaced at L.S.U. by Van Chancellor [a man]. This is a sensitive subject at a time of a declining rate of women’s teams being coached by women. In Division I women’s basketball, 230 of the 332 teams — 69.3 percent — were coached by women in 2006, Carpenter said. In 1992, that percentage was 72.2 percent. ...
That because pay and pressure has gone up, so more men have gotten into coaching women's basketball.
“I think there needs to be an opportunity for women to coach women,” Finch said. “I hate to see people that are anti-Title IX — and there’s a lot of that sentiment — say, ‘Here’s another way we can take down women in sports.’ ” A regrettable aspect of the L.S.U. case was that it would likely reinforce the stereotype of lesbians as sexual threats, said Pat Griffin, professor emeritus of social justice at the University of Massachusetts and author of the book “Strong Women, Deep Closets: Lesbians and Homophobia in Sports.” Her own research, Griffin said, indicated that the “vast majority” of lesbian coaches were “very scrupulous” about their treatment of players. “They know how unfounded accusations can ruin careers,” Griffin said.
... The resignation of Coach Rene Portland from Penn State last month may also signal that those who discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation could face a loss of top-quality recruits and a loss of their jobs, Kane said.
Portland resigned weeks after settling a lawsuit filed by a former player who accused her of banning lesbians from her team. Previously, Portland was fined by the university and ordered to take diversity training.
Penn State ... No homophobia allowed!
Victories for JoPa at PSU... 409
ReplyDeleteYears Sandusky coached for JoPa... 23
Years Sandusky ran/worked The Second Mile, a charity for children at risk... 30
Minimum years JoPa and the rest of PSU top admins covered for, financially donated to and enabled Sandusky and his "chariable" work with young boys at risk... 13
Indicted sex crime count... 40
Penn State ... No homophobia allowed!... PRICELESS
Is it harder, easier or the same difficulty level to sue for damanges or settlements in the case of homosexual vs heterosexual abuse and exploitation?
ReplyDeleteI image PSU, the local government/police and other individuals will be paying out many millions in settlements and lawsuits.
If a hetero male coach did to their players what this LSU lesbian coach did, how would the financial settlement and legal penalties be different? Are any affected LSU players reaching for the brass ring and suing?
The Penn State case concerns child rape, which ranks morally lower than homophobia in modern America. It is not a direct comparison to the LSU incident (sodomy with 10-yr old boys versus sex with 18-yr old adult women).
ReplyDelete"Let me say that I particularly like the editorial on page 4, where you speak of my being a sportsman. Erm... I'm not especially PC, but you do realize that homosexuality =! pedophilia, right?
ReplyDeleteFemale coaches declining three percentage points is not a big change.
ReplyDeleteStephen stop, Chapman carried on with ADULTS.
ReplyDeleteTruth - yes, but in her case she was head coach, which adds a bit to the difficulty, as scholarships, playing time, etc, can be implied to be on the line.
ReplyDeleteEveryone sees their own pet cause in any big news event.
Non sequitor warning:
ReplyDeleteSteve, Derb has an article up at Taki about how Blacks may be particularly suited for politics.
I put in a good word for your 1996 NR article in the comments. FYI.
It always cracks me up how the steely-eyed, a-religious, number-crunching Left just loses it when it comes to pattern recognition. Sandusky, for example, had six adopted kids. There is nothing in evolutionary biology that supports a heterosexual man voluntarily raising six of another man's spawn. But dare mention this, and the Left starts squawking, "Oh no he din't!"
ReplyDeleteIt's like, if we dare accuse this one precious snowflake who's a member in turn of less than 5% of the population well, the next thing you know all the straight white guys are going to be stockpiling Zyklon-B.
Of course, NY Times does have a legit point. We shouldn't jump to the hysterical conclusion that all or even most lesbians are sexual predators. They are not.
ReplyDeleteBut for NY Times to bring up this issue when NO ONE HAS HAS BLAMED LESBIANS FOR WHAT WHATEVER HAPPENED AT PENN STATE, it's hysterical and paranoid on their part. Ny Times isn't so much covering the news spinning this issue to put conservatives on the moral defensive. Though most people, conservatives included, have been decent enough not to accuse all or most lesbians of being sexual predators, NY Times has no qualms about pre-emptively accusing many Americans as closet-'homophobes'.
Worse, the NY TIMES is hypocritical because it has no problem with painting all or most Texans or Arizonans or conservatives as subhuman neanderthal beasts when some rightwing nutjob does something crazy. Remember when that politician was shot in Arizona by Laughner(who wasn't even a conservative)? Right away, ALL CONSERVATIVES were blamed for the CULTURE OF VIOLENCE. And though Tea Party has been far more sane and peaceful than OCCUPY WALL STREET, Ny Times liberal Jews went out of their way to portray the TEA PARTY as a HATE movement.
I will dare say that even though not all Jews are liberal jerks, the majority of Jews do seem to share the NY Times mentality. Shame on the Jewish community.
We should NEVER rush to judgement, especially when it comes to college sports. We must be cautious, balanced, and judicious... like how liberals were with the Duke Lacrosse case.
ReplyDeleteThe power of words. Gays didn't have much clout before they came up with 'homophobia' which was then disseminated all across America by the media and academia. And Jews have 'antisemite', and blacks have 'racist'. And there is 'xenophobe' to protect illegal aliens and massive out-of-control immigration.
ReplyDeleteThose words work as both shields and swords. They shield certain groups from criticism and are used to attack other groups for being hostile to the shielded groups.
There is no evil word associated with viciously attacking and undermining Christians, whites, and conservatives.
Such words must be created and disseminated far and wide.
Also, we need to come up with words to describe black thuggery, Jewish venality, and gay perversion. Words that sound 'scientific' and 'objective' but really stick it into them.
Come on, her name was Pokey!
ReplyDeleteWhat more do you need?
"Come on, her name was Pokey!

Rotfl. And I would be a homopoke, not a 'homophobe'--a creature less likely to exist in the real world than fairies.
Homopoke is someone who pokes fun at gays. Why? Cuz they are funny.
The most amusing manner in which the media try to
ReplyDeletepre-empt 'prejudice' on the part of the public when covering news stories of bad things done by minorities is having a black news reporter cover black crime.
Almost on every channel, you see a clean-cut yuppie-buppie black male or female reporter speaking proper English covering stories of non-blacks brutalized by black thugs.
So, if a white guy gets robbed or beaten by black thugs, there is the 'good clean cut' black news reporter to remind him(and us)that most blacks are decent and nice, just like him.
While it's true that not all blacks are thugs, this media trickery is getting ridiculous.
Wild blacks loot and burn down a city. Then we see a nice clean-cut black guy in front a news camera wondering, 'gee, what went wrong?' and fooling us that most blacks be just like him.
Since when is there a stereotype that lesbians are predatory? Anyone who actually knows any lesbians is probably aware of the Lesbian Sheep Problem: put a bunch of interesting, attractive lesbians in a room for the evening, add alcohol, and they'll *still* all go home alone. That's the opposite of predatory.
ReplyDeleteI stand corrected on the age of the black "kid" in Epic Beard Man video. According to Know Your Meme, the black "kid," Michael, was 50 at the time of the incident. He only behaved and dressed like he was 17. He was still 17 years younger than Epic Beard Man.
ReplyDeleteThis sort of reminds me of the western woman who decided to travel alone into the Islamic world in full wedding dress. To promote peace. A brave experiment if you will, with herself as the subject.
ReplyDelete"Bacca's sister Maria Pasqualino told Italian reporters that her sister had intended to hitchhike across a total of 11 countries carrying her message of ''peace, hope and faith''."
Travelling west to east she only made it as far as Turkey before being raped and murdered.
Needless to say her supporters were keen that her story not inflame prejudice. An odd sort of experimnt you might think, let the results speak for themselves. But no, it turns out the experiemnt didnt count anymore.

JOE PATERNO was forced out of Penn State after decades of excellence as the Nittany Lions Head Coach.
ReplyDeleteWhy was "JoPa" fired? Because he allowed the weakest, most defenseless in our society are being allowed to be exploited for the degenerate pleasure of rich and powerful homosexuals.
Sandusky is a male and he forced young males to have sexual relations with him- that is by definition same-sex or homo(same) sexual. Why does our media mask the fact by calling him a "pedophile"? He engaged in homosexual pederasty.
What our media is hiding from you is the fact that Paterno was simply following the PC dogma- Paterno refused to be "HOMOPHOBIC" - after all Sandusky just did what LGBT media push- same sex sodomy.
Children in Kindergarten in California are now being forced to learn about homosexual "heroes"- by law. Why?
Homosexuals are using so-called "anti bullying" codes to impose pro homosexual propaganda in teh classroom.
"Gays" have already lowered the age of consent in Canada to 12 years old.
Sandusky is a protected "minority" as a "gay" man.
When homosexual predators start doing this in our post Obama military look for cases like this to increase exponentially.
This is highly reminiscent Ft Hood jihadi Nidal Hasan. The muslim murderer should have been removed from the Army years ago- but fear of being called "islamophobic" lead to those in authority willfully turning a blind eye to the potential for ghastly crimes. After all "Diversity is Strength" is the mantra that our media brainwashed us to believe.
Make no mistake- Harvey Milk himself marched in San Francisco's "Gay" parades along with NAMBLA ( North American Man Boy Love Association)
The fact that the homosexual Coach Sandusky was allowed to rape young boys for years and years is a statement about our societies refusal to face the facts about the "gay" agenda.

ReplyDeleteDuh, duh, duh, read the post first.
I am Lugash.
I misread the name of Sandusky's foundation as the "Second Life Foundation." That was eerie because I started imagining Reason.com articles arguing for market-based simulation games allowing for people to molest virtual children. But I am sure before the end of the month we'll hear about what a rabid right-wing Republican this creep was--whether or not he was, we'll hear it, that is. Some pedophiles are more equal than others and within a day of the resignations the left was publicizing a pro-Sandusky comment Rick Santorum made a while back. It is weird in our minoritarian society that homosexual molesters are at maximum a mere phantom threat, but there's an American Beauty-style dad lurking in every halcyon suburb. Everyone's partly gay except for the rapists.
ReplyDeleteI was reading on the Jon Last site where he was trying to argue immigration is a secondary issue to abortion (if I follow him correctly), saying the sex revolution is the glue of the 2011 Left. Despite disagreeing with his prima facie argument I tend to agree about the sex, although I think it will ultimately be self-damaging politically. Woody Allen or that Columbia prof can carry on with life mated to their daughters (in the latter case, his biological daughter) and despite losing some sneaker endorsements they're not paying for that. The prof had to plead guilty to incest I think, but do you imagine there will still be incest laws on the books in 20 years?
ReplyDeleteAs Prof. Jack Gladney's son in White Noise said: "How is incest unnatural? Animals do it all the time" [I think "cannibalism" would have worked there too]
We're in minoritarian overdrive atm and I think it's going to explode. The boundaries of sex relations are boiling down to litigable artifacts. Predatory lesbians have to be extremely rare so why do we need to patch up the system for them? I mean, "fairness" is great, but what's in it for the 99%?
Paging ElvisNixon.com:
ReplyDeleteThe "age of consent" in Canada was lowered to 14 in the 1990s by the then Liberal Party federal government. It was raised back to 16 in 2008 by the present Conservative Party government.

Reactions also included the removal of Sandusky's image from a mural near the college, and the renaming of an ice-cream flavor which had been created in his honor.

From that ESPN article:
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, when we examine the Portland era and the Sandusky scandal through the same lens, what we see tells us a lot about institutionalized hate and systems that equate winning with morality, both of which flourished for decades in State College. The administration's failure to step in and do the right thing, the moral thing, created a void in which dozens of young lives, from Portland's players to Sandusky's alleged victims, were disrupted and forever scarred.
Hmmm, it seems that the reporter thinks that being sexually abused is the moral equivalent of not being let on the team because you are gay.
In addition, responding to an earlier comment. In this new PC world we live in, homophobia is a far worse crime than sexually abusing a minor, and it seems as if sports journalists are carrying water for that morality as well,
And notice how the liberals try to cover up a lot of gay crimes by calling it 'pedophilia'. Though pedophilia is not the same thing as homosexuality, it's true enough that many pedophiles are gay men. There's hetero-pedophilia and homo-pedophilia(as well as bi-pedophilia), and so it is disingenuous to categorize pedophilia as something entirely distinct from other forms of sexuality. It is a subset of sexuality.
ReplyDeleteWhat percent of pedophiles self identify as homosexuals?
Obviously, it isn't socially acceptable to self identify as a pedophile. So, some pedophiles who like boys are probably self identifying as just homosexual.
Also, due to different maturation rates, under age boys are more likely to be boys than underage girls are to still be girls. Probably 90% of 14 year old girls are physically fully mature, but less than 50% of 14 year old boys are. So a grown man lusting over a 14 year old girl doesn't seem to me to necessarily be a pedophile, but a grown man lusting for a 14 year old boy almost certainly is.
Once again trying to legally establish equality where is doesn't physically exist, doesn't work.
Are we all braced for the homophobic backlash?

Actually, that sounds like the start of Penthouse Forum letter.
Homosexual activists have long sought to distance themselves from pedophiles, however Canada’s most prominent homosexual activist group has now demanded the lowering the age of consent for anal sex to 16 from 18. Surprisingly, Canada’s National Post, regarded by some as a ‘conservative’ paper has come out in favour of the proposal.
ReplyDeleteReacting to the Conservative Government’s plan to raise the age of consent forÂnormal sex from 14 to 16, EGALE (Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere) has commenced a campaign to have the age of consent for anal sex lowered to 16 from 18. Laurie Arron, the director of advocacy for EGALE remarked to the Ottawa Citizen, “There’s no reason to treat anal sex differently than other sexual acts except to stigmatize gay and bisexual men.”
However, that statement is categorically false, speaking strictly from a medical standpoint. Even those who support homosexual sex acts warn nonetheless that anal sex is a dangerous activity, regardless of genders involved. The sex info site of the University of California at Santa Barbara, which can in no way be described as opposed to homosexual activity, nonetheless points out that anal sex is a dangerous practice.
Experts on sexual behaviour, or “sexperts” at the site refers to them, warn that anal sex is the most dangerous behaviour for transmission of HIV/AIDS and all other STDs since the anus is not designed for sexual activity as is the vagina. Moreover, the ‘sexperts’ warn that the practice also leads to fecal incontinence - loss of normal control of the sphincter muscles which leads to stool leaking from the rectum at unexpected times.
As the website puts it: “Even when people use lots of lubrication during anal sex, there can be tearing of the tissue inside the anus . . . For this reason, anal sex is the riskiest form of sexual activity when it comes to the transmission of HIV/AIDS.
“Tiny tears in the anal tissue are like giant superhighways for the HIV viruses, allowing them to get inside the body and enter the blood system. Anal tears provide an opening for all the other STDs as well.
“It may be possible for repetitive anal sex to lead to weakening of the anal sphincter, which is the muscle that tightens after we defecate. Once weakened, feces can escape the anus against our will.”
(see the website http://www.soc.ucsb.edu/sexinfo/?article=faq&refid=125 WARNING: graphic sketches used to illustrate)
Nevertheless, the National Post backed the EGALE request in an unsigned editorial Saturday February 11. The editorial titled, “Equalize the age of consent” said “Section 159 of the Criminal Code specifically bans anal intercourse between unmarried people under 18. This is plainly discriminatory, a prohibition intended to stigmatize homosexual or bisexual teenagers, suggesting that the nature of their sexual relationship requires special added protection. This is nonsense.”

Must be my ovine appearance which led them to mistake me for one of their own.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. Where's an example of that stereotype? The only lesbo stereotypes I know of tend to have them as fairly neutral, the lumberjack shirt and shorts type.
In fact, I only know one lesbian joke, which actually contrasts their tendency to seek a relationship as opposed to a 'mo guy:
What does a lesbian bring to a second date?
- a U-Haul
What does a gay guy bring to a second date?
-what second date?
just goes to show how, despite camille paglia's mention of her having rapey eyes ala rapacious men, poor lesbians are doomed to remain non-predatory by the harmful stereotype effect.(and suffer the consequent lack of action)
ReplyDelete"The only lesbo stereotypes I know of tend to have them as fairly neutral, the lumberjack shirt and shorts type."
And effete gay men get classified as sexual monsters!?
Why is no one spreading more awareness about NAWGLA like south park did with NAMBLA?
Damn patriarchy, I tell you.
I used to play pick-up ball at Cal with a black guy who was very homophobic. In '97 he got into an argument with the women's basketball coach, a lesbian, when her players overstayed their time on the court. She called him a "black bastard." She got fired, and he got $10K for his mental anguish.
ReplyDeleteThe worm is turning in blacks v. homosexual disputes.
ReplyDeletedue to different maturation rates, under age boys are more likely to be boys than underage girls are to still be girls
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by maturation? Girls on average hit puberty first. It is argued endlessly about why, in Western countries, this happens (cultural, bad chemicals in groundwater, global warming, etc.)
I have not however seen any factual assertion that 90% of 14 year old girls are Full Grown (to say nothing of "50%" of same age boys)
With IVF improvements will it be possible to create a permanent faction of lesbian-oriented? I only say this because the more genetically bent have a serious resistance to the old fashioned way. Also they have political cohesion and often dual-income households (though typically earning less than gay men). Denice Denton might have been the pathbreaker-- these lesbians could turn into our future natural leaders, provided the "straight" women are pushed out of the picture. Polygamy can help there.
ReplyDeleteWere these Penn State perpetrators raised Catholic? If it's OK for a priest ...
ReplyDelete--Sorry, Steve.

As an aside, how fluid is your sexuality likely to be by the time you go off to college? Is it really likely your darling daughter is going to suddenly decide she's a lesbian when she gets onto the basketball team in college and meets the girl of her dreams?
ReplyDeleteNo, the power-status differential never turns that way (though within their age cohort lesbians-until-graduation are of course common, for a different reason). There's not much self-interest in or peer tolerance of sleeping with the lady coach. Also it arguably compromises straight daughters as the prime funding well of lib-arts colleges and pseudo-undergrad universities, which mostly provide a glorified dating service people in the '40s and '50s would have recognized.
ReplyDeleteDisproportionate gay clout is best understood as an upper middle class proxy jab at NAMs.
