Here we go again ...

They never learn, do they?

Just a week ago, the New York Times was explaining how the upcoming French election would be affected by how immigration-restrictionist talk had inspired that neo-Nazi to kill those Jewish kids in Toulouse.

Then, it was all about all the time how an evil white racist had hunted down and murdered in cold-blood cuddly 12-year-old Trayvon Martin. (Here's the Daily Mail's capacious account of the current state of a story that is hard to get in one piece from the American press.)

Now, splashed big on the New York Times today:
Iraqi Immigrants in California Town Fear a Hate Crime in a Woman’s Killing
By IAN LOVETT and WILL CARLESS
EL CAJON, Calif. — Shaima Alawadi’s family says they found the first note taped to the front door of their house on a quiet suburban street here. It said: “This is my country. Go back to yours, terrorist,” according to her 15-year-old son, Mohammed.
Ms. Alawadi’s husband, Kassim Alhimidi, says he wanted to call the police. But his wife said no, insisting the note was only a child’s prank. Like many others in the neighborhood, the couple were immigrants from Iraq. In 17 years in the United States, they had been called terrorists before, he said.
But last Wednesday, Ms. Alawadi was found in the family’s dining room by her 17-year-daughter, lying unconscious in a puddle of blood with a severe head wound. Nearby lay another threatening note, similar to the one the family found a week earlier.
Ms. Alawadi, 32, died three days later. The police caution against jumping to conclusions, saying they are still trying to determine whether she was targeted because of her religion or ethnicity, calling that just one possibility.

Yes, 32 minus 17 equals 15.
“At this point, we are not calling it a hate crime,” said Lt. Mark Coit of the El Cajon police. “We haven’t made that determination. We are calling it an isolated incident, because we don’t have any evidence of anything similar going on at this point.”
Whatever the police eventually determine, the crime has shattered the sense of security for Iraqi immigrants in El Cajon, exposing cultural tensions and distrust that have often simmered just below the surface since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.

I dunno. Maybe the El Cajon Klan did it. It could be.

On the other hand, does this sound like a normal hate crime? Compare it to a typical hate crime, such as the assault on blogger Matthew Yglesias last May: man walking alone after dark through another racial group's neighborhood gets beaten up by a couple of strangers. No notes are left.

So, does this suburban San Diego story strike you as a little dubious? The local hate crimeists don't start with say, graffiti or window-breaking, they go right to home invasion and murdering a housewife, but not raping her. And, then, instead of burning a fiery cross, they leave a note. Okay, I suppose ...

From the L.A. Times, a more cautious account:
Alawadi was discovered by the couple's 17-year-old daughter, Fatima, who also reported finding the note near her mother's bloody body. A similar note was taped to the front door several days earlier, she told police, although that note was not preserved.
El Cajon police have not ruled out the possibility that the killing was a hate crime. But Police Chief Jim Redman also said that there is "other evidence" besides the note and that police have not determined a motive or identified a suspect or even a "person of interest."
Redman said police are confident the killing is "an isolated incident" and not part of a campaign of violence aimed at the large Iraqi immigrant community in the suburbs east of San Diego.

Colleen Curry of ABC News is even less rabble-rousing:
Despite a hate-filled note found at the murder scene of an Iraqi mother in California, police today are emphasizing that other evidence found during the investigation has them convinced the killing was an isolated incident that poses no danger to other Iraqis.
Police in El Cajon, Calif., said they will still look into whether the murder of 32-year-old Shaima Alawadi could be classified a hate-crime, but Police Chief James Redman said that "based on the evidence thus far, we believe this is an isolated incident."
The beating death of the Iraqi mother of five sent shock waves through the community of El Cajon, which has one of the largest concentrations of Iraqi immigrants in America. Twitter and Facebook users created hashtags and pages in Alawadi's honor, comparing the targeting of Alawadi for wearing a hijab to that of Florida teen Trayvon Martin for wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Police, however, have not said that Alawadi was targeted for wearing a hijab.
"I want to stress there is other evidence in this case that we are looking at, and the possibility of a hate crime is just one of the aspects of this investigation," Redman said today.

The ABC News report made it clearer what Chief Redman's statement that he believed this was "an isolated incident, means:
"Police declined to elaborate, but crime experts said that usually suggests the victim knows the attacker."

So, why is the New York Times making a big deal over a police blotter item from 3,000 miles away? Especially because by giving their international credence to the hate crime supposition, they might spark who knows what kind of violence among hot-heads in Iraq?

It could be that this is some hate conspiracy. But it sure sounds like the cops know more than they are telling, so why didn't the New York Times wait until they found out what the cops know that they don't yet know before splashing this big?

People give Freud a hard time these days, but his concept of "projection" remains a valuable one when reading the newspaper. There is, as always, a lot of hatred and hysteria in the world today. And there's clearly money to be made by fanning the flames of hate.

The growing SPLCization of the prestige press is frightening. I realize that times are tough for everybody, and that the Southern Poverty Law Center has a gold-plated track record of piling up hundreds of millions of dollars via spreading fear and hate in the guise of fighting hate, so it's not surprising that the national media is following the path the SPLC has pioneered. But this is scary stuff to play around with to make money.

  1. Zimmerman is turning into a saint, his calls to the police are now public.

One of them has him calling about an 8 year old black kid, who he was concerned was unsupervised on a busy street. Somehow this became the complete opposite of the narrative the media tried to run with, and I suspect divine intervention in the form of trolling.

"growing SPLCization" - no, this is just what they, the first-draft-of-history crowd, do. This is what they have always been. In turn of the century Memphis the papers would publish advance notice of lynchings. Difference of degree.

  5. The daughter obviously did it and she will eventually be known as Casey Anthony in a hijab. But the daughter’s inspired variation on the Zenaida Gonzales gambit, replacing the Mexican nanny with an anonymous white nationalist bigot, was a brilliant move and should end up aiding her defense. Of course in both cases there are groups of people who were indeed predisposed to cheerlead one of their enemy’s demise. In Casey’s case anti-Mexican crowd would have been happy with one more example of immigrant crime. In this Iraqi chick’s case there are huge segments of the Left dying for a real life flesh and blood example of all their darkest (or whitest) fears. The big difference in the two cases is one of relative scarcity. There are plenty of examples of Mexican criminals so when her lies became obvious Casey Anthony quickly lost the choir she was singing to because they plenty of other options. In this Iraqi case of matricide, many on the Left are so invested in the idea of wild packs of racists running loose and slaughtering the weak dark people, that no matter how bad the evidence is against the daughter, nothing will ever get them to admit it was anything but a racial attack.

And she only needs one of these people on the jury.

  6. Cops love to joke about this stuff. Any detective with six months on the force knows the note was a silly (and pointless) misdirection. The cops know the killing was mundane. They are checking out the husband big time, his girlfriends, as well as all the guys the wife was shtupping.

These cases are a social Rorschacht test. Everybody fills in the blanks with their favorite myth.

And there is nothing wrong with having national myths. The problem is when nations with different and conflicting myths are forced to live together, listen to the same news, read the same papers, attend the same schools.

Each group is trying to bend the other groups' Weltanschaaung and myths to match its own.

Unfortunately the white gentile Western nations have been mentally bent so far that we no longer have a reason to live and are going extinct (to much cheering from the NYT and Fellow Travelers).

  11. I think the way to bet in almost all murders where there's not an obvious motive (like robbery) is someone known to the victim. On the other hand, if someone close to you is murdered without an obvious motive, you are liable to have a hard couple years as the police and prosecutor figure you're the most likely suspect, and try to charge you.

  12. What Steve wrote about Freudian 'projection' is dead right.
Deep down, a lot of people running the media *want* to whip up hysteria about whites terrorizing blacks. They *want* to stoke up a black backlash and rioting. They *want* to see whites humiliated and abased and forced to grovel.
They get a deep psychic pleasure from all these things. Perhaps it's guilt from their upbringings, working out issues with their parents, perhaps as some say a rival third ethny, with an agenda of its own is instrumental.
But the general upshot seems to be this - "Whitey has got too uppity - whitey must be taken down a peg or too and shown who's boss".
Warming to the Freudian theme, the deep under current seems to be something as strong and primal as penis envy, the idea is to destroy what you don't have in order to sate a primeval rage at 'injustice'. Now you know why so many white women through their lot i with the anti-white male allance.

  13. There are two things going on here:

    a. Your model of the world determines what you see and remember. White on black hate crimes seem important, and black on white hate crimes don't, if you have a certain picture of rhe world wherein white hatred of blacks is a powerful and common thing, and black hatred of whites is incidental.

    b. Your agenda determines what shape you will try to hammer rhe facts into, what facts you will emphasize, which ones you will exclude, etc.

I suspect both these are happening together in these news stories, and also that the effect of these two re-enforces (a) b making it easy to think of white on black hate crimes (they appear in the news often) but hard to think of black on white hate crimes (which rarely appear in the news).

People of a certain age still remember Tawana Brawley. Heck, we even remember Mort Downey, Jr. (start at "In late April 1989...").

  20. Much of this is about the MORALITY OF IDENTITY. There is morality of deed vs morality of rank/race/nationality/religion(or of identity). In the military, it's called 'pulling rank'. So, an upper officer, though a lout and wrong, will insist on respect because he's of higher rank(hierarchical identity).

But this sort of morality exists among many groups. So, Christians, even rotten ones, will feel they are morally better simply because they're Christians. Or Middle Kingdom Chinese thought they were better simply cuz they were Chinese. Or Jews thought they were morally better because they were CHOSEN. Or Brahmins thought their higher caste made them spiritually and morally better than other castes. And Nazi Germans thought by the virtue of their 'Aryanness', they could do no wrong as they killed lots of 'subhumans'. Thus morality of identity. So, even as a Nazi thug was killing a Jewish family, the Nazi saw himself as morally above his victims.

Civil Rights Movement's mantra was 'content of character, not color of skin'. In other words, morality of deed/action over morality of race/rank/identity.
But ironically--or not so ironically since MLK was a hustler fraud--, blacks today have settled into a form of morality of identity. They be right cuz... they be black, and that's that. It's a racial form of pulling rank. Or maybe it should be called 'pulling race'. And Jews are infected with this too. It's as though every Jew is a victim of the Holocaust who just crawled out of the death camps. And GOP is eager to have guys like Thomas Sowell and Lt. Allen West because morality of identity says 'blacks are more moral than whites cuz... they are black'.

And of gays and feminists have it too. It stinks.

  26. Why does the SPLC make money? Because it feeds on a fairly primal hate. That of women who find their male peers unsexy. That's the reason the NYT is taking this route. It sells, for their audience.

Now look at the Daily Mail. Two different papers, both serving White women, online. Why do they have wildly different views about "original racial sin" and the need for endless punishment?

Because the Mail's female readership is working class White (just read their stories), they don't find their men unsexy and lacking in aggressive dominance (see Mad Men, Don Draper for details) and they have to live their daily lives which are not filled with the utopian imaginings of the White upper class.

Oh, yeah, and a nice racist dig on those "Iraqi hotheads," who should just have taken the invasion of their country lying down and then turn the other cheek like a good Christian (when was the last time a Christian turned the other cheek? Talk about a stupid meme, Lol). And who are those "Iraqi hotheads) going to take revenge on? Those nonexistent American occupation soldiers?

Steve's "clandestine" racism is becoming a parody. You should do stand-up comedy, Steve. You will be a hit, lol. Anyways, I assume the good white supremacists of this blog will argue that bludgeoning somebody to death is not part of white people's nature, despite the fact some "hotheaded" white soldier just went SS on two Afghan villages a couple of weeks back.

I suppose that story gave you masturbatory joy that impaired your common sense. The young man obviously snapped and had a psychotic episode. I don't think anyone's denied it, even in the mainstream media. If he was an evil Nazi white man in his right mind who wanted to kill Afghan people for fun, he could find a much better way, at least attempt to get away with it and hurt a lot more people. Way to exploit a terrible tragedy to make yourself feel superior, you ghoul.

  39. Honor killing, with the "hate" note left as misdirection. That's the most likely explanation.

What a "hate crime" is in America today is not a crime motivated by "hate" but one that the left wing can twist for purposes of ginning up and expressing its hate for White America. From Freud I give you Orwell's doublespeak.

  42. Nobody doubts that whites sometimes do awful stuff to nonwhites for racist reasons--Steve even mentioned a recent case in another post where that unambiguously happened, and the white thugs who murdered some black guy walking home from work will rightly be in prison for the rest of their days.

The problem is that the media, for whatever reasons, reports on white on black hate crimes far more often and in far more depth than it reports on black on white hate crimes.

This is a common, known failure mode of media--their reporting distorts the frequency of various bad events, sometimes to sell more papers, sometimes to push an agenda, sometimes because some stories are easier or more comfortable to write than others.

So, I might like to know how big a problem white hate crimes against blacks are, relative to black hate crimes against whites. If uppity blacks are routinely being lynched in the South, or the LAPD routinely solves open cases by picking up the first black guy they see walking down the street and beating a confession out of him, that's a big problem that needs to be solved. If, on the other hand, hate crimes are a very small fraction of total crimes against blacks, so that a black guy should weigh the risk of a hate crime relative to being mugged in the same way an American should weigh the risk of a terrorist attack relative to being mugged, then white on black hate crimes probably don't need lots of focused attention, like having a big part of the DOJ dedicated to dealing with them, or having the FBI spending lots of resources infiltrating white supremacst groups or something.

Media sources never give us this kind of information--it's just not what they do.
