My late father's favorite grocery store was Jon's in Valley Village in the southeast San Fernando Valley. It now carries a whole lot of weird products like Bulgarian soda pop and Georgian stuff in little glass jars: comfort food from home, if your home is somewhere in the ex-Warsaw Pact. I've been to Moscow and I've been to Istanbul, and the clientele of Jon's looks like a cross between the two.
My vague impression is that liberated Eastern Europeans take their lead in choosing where to immigrate to from Armenians. They don't necessarily like Armenians per se, but you've gotta admit that Armenians aren't stupid, so if Armenians have been moving to the northern part of the southeast San Fernando Valley (i.e, not the rich parts south of Ventura Blvd., but the more marginal parts where the homeowners are mostly white and the apartment dwellers mostly Hispanic), we ought to look into it. (It's like how lots of newly rich oil sheiks in the 1970s immediately decided to move to Beverly Hills.) Also, a lot of ultra-Orthodox Jews now live in this area (there were zero when I was a kid), although they don't shop at Jon's.
By the way, the phrase "flatheads" that is used to describe the hired muscle who escort ex-Soviet oligarchs to nightclubs (think Viggo Mortensen as the pimp in Eastern Promises) and which inevitably comes to mind while standing in the checkout line at Jon's -- does that just come from their favored haircuts or do they really have flatter heads? What did Carleton Coon and the other caliper boys have to say? Or is it a recent Human Growth Hormone thing?
I've never seen anybody talk about how these newcomers and their kids (if any) are likely to eventually vote. The only evidence I have is that I knew a Ukrainian lady who arrived in Valley Village with some multi-syllabic Ludmilla Tourischeva-like name and immediately had her last name legally changed to Reagan.

ReplyDeleteThey are nothing more than JOCKS, JOCKS, JOCKS, JOCKS, JOCKS.
Armenians are crazy but very tough people.
ReplyDeleteThe influx of Jews from the Soviet Union (and later from the former Soviet Union) had zero impact on the political affiliation of American Jews. I'd say if anything it made them more left-wing.
ReplyDeleteI've known a number of of people from countries which were formerly behind the Iron Curtain who are now living in New York. They're all very left-wing in their politics.
My sense is that people from the former Soviet bloc tend to vote Republican. It seems that most Armenian-American politicians are Republican and many Russian and Ukrainian immigrants from the last few decades are Baptist, Pentacostalist, ect. and very socially conservative.
ReplyDeleteRisto
I've never seen anybody talk about how these newcomers and their kids (if any) are likely to eventually vote.
ReplyDeleteHere is a piece of the puzzle from the other coast.
Yes, Caucasians tend to have flattened occiputs (the backs of their heads). As do many Southern Slavs.
ReplyDeleteThe NYT said: One reason these voters tend to support Republicans is that they see them as more ardent warriors against the kind of big-government, business-stifling programs that soured their lives in the Soviet Union. Their conservative stances on issues like taxes and Israel seem to outweigh their more liberal views on social issues like abortion.
ReplyDeletehttp://littleurl.info/brightonbeach
I'm pretty sure that ex-soviet Russians in New York are pretty pro-Republican.
ReplyDeleteMy Romanian differential equations professor gave an impromptu talk about his experience in the Soviet Union... he cried and praised Ronald Reagan.
You can also buy Stalin's favorite armenian brandy, Dvin, at Jon's. Interesting place to shop if you don't mind the flatheads (they seem pretty non-threatening to me, at least at the Sherman Way branch)
ReplyDelete"My Romanian differential equations professor gave an impromptu talk about his experience in the Soviet Union... he cried and praised Ronald Reagan.
ReplyDelete"
You gotta admit, that's the kind of stuff conservatives hate when it come from the Liberal side.
I'm pretty sure that ex-soviet Russians in New York are pretty pro-Republican
ReplyDeleteThen you're pretty wrong.
I think white immigrants from formerly-Soviet-occupied nations are the immigrants most likely to vote Republican/Conservative, possibly moreso than immigrants from elsewhere in the Anglosphere. Having lived under brutal Communist tyranny they don't want more of it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what will happen, though - the first kids born after Communism are now 21.
IHTG:
ReplyDelete"Yes, Caucasians tend to have flattened occiputs (the backs of their heads). As do many Southern Slavs."
I guess they lack the vestigial occiptal bun of us part-Neanderthal western Europeans!
Russia's relations with the Caucasus are complex, but in general they dislike all people from that region and call them chyornye. Bizarrely, chyorny means black.
ReplyDeleteArmenians and Georgians only exist today as peoples because Alexander I decided to do the humanitarian thing in that part of the world (Bagration, a Georgian, was one of his top generals), but that doesn't mean Russians like any of them. Armenians love Russians and are at least recognised by the Slavs as being smart. The other ethnic groups don't even have that saving grace.
I don't know how much commonality there could be between all these groups of immigrants in the US.
"I'm pretty sure that ex-soviet Russians in New York are pretty pro-Republican."
ReplyDeleteRussian Jews are very liberal and see white cons as akin to Russian goy antisemites.
Russian-Americans are pissed at McCain/Romney sword-rattling at Russia at behest of their neocon masters.
"Caucasians tend to have flattened occiputs..." Well, this is not the most important issue but,... this feature is common only in groups with Dinaric/Armenoid composition or admixture, like Serbians, north-italians, south-germans, northern-Greeks,Turks, Kurds, northern-Arabs, Jews, etc... It´s rare among western europeans, like Iberians, British, Scandinavians, Baltics, etç...
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of Poles living here in the UK. Those who Ive talked to show an interest in political matters seem to hold robust views on communists, muslims and jews. Its hard to imagine them them falling natuarlly into voting left.
ReplyDeleteOf course the left here have been making an effort to give them the self-belief in their victim status - encouraging them to think they are suffering racism etc. Time will tell if they are successful.
An old slang word for Swedes, which seems to have died out by the '40s, was "squarehead".
ReplyDeleteThe influx of Jews from the Soviet Union (and later from the former Soviet Union) had zero impact on the political affiliation of American Jews.
ReplyDeleteIt gave us the "Russian" mafia.
From my informal poll of Polaks in the NYC metropolitan area I would estimate 65% go for conservatives/republicans and 35 for liberals. I could be wrong here as the more religous Catholic Polaks vote overwhelmingly against abortion and contraception, so it could be a higher split 70/30 or even 80/20.
ReplyDeleteWhat I do know is that the Polish media, the newspapers in particular are always talking about immigration rights and such. The day after Obama won the front page Polish daily translated was "When is amnesty coming?" When Obama passed his immigration work program the front pages were all raving about it.
Heres the funny thing, most Poles are already here legally, whether naturalized, green cards, HB-1, worker permits etc. When I talk to most Poles either at church, bars, community outings, young or old, no one cares about immigration issues because most Poles that are here are legal. Its much more difficult to swim the atlantic than to grab a boogie board and paddle your way across the rio grande.
The most politically vocal Poles that I know, laugh at Obama and America, they simply can not believe a Black man is running a white country (used to be white).
The real problem is Polish media skews massively left, when Poles don't really care much about it. Its like Obama has his own Polish language propaganda machine in NYC.
Actually, ex-Soviet Jews are about the only Jews apart from the Orthodox I've met who vote Republican and will actually identify themselves as white and talk shit about NAMs.
ReplyDeletePolish and early Russian Jews feared the tzar, and German Jews feared the Nazis (until Hitler they were relatively conservative and pro-German), but Soviet Jews feared the Communists. They are very suspicious of socialism. You can read the paper, 'Citizens', based in Staten Island.
Majority of immigrants from the USSR vote GOP. Not as extreme as Cubans but the same general idea. Among those who work in the institutes of propaganda and indoctrination (AKA "higher education"), it's probably 50/50 split. Young vote Democratic.
ReplyDeleteEven if white immigrants vote Republican, if they move to big cities their kids will vote Democrat by about 85%. Nothing but nothing defeats the all powerful monster of social status, the prime driver of the majority of American votes.
ReplyDeleteHere in Chicago Poles and Ukrainians tend to overwhelmingly support the Republicans. Polish radio stations were basically the only media outlet in the city to regularly say anything positive about Mitt, but during the primaries the favorite of the main Polish radio station was Ron Paul.
ReplyDeleteI have met a few FOB Russians who are democrats, however how prevalent that is I don't really know, as I don't really associate with their kind especially here on the south side where Russkies are few and far between.
Most old (pre 60's) Polish immigrants and their working class kids tend to vote Democrat however.
Where I live the Russians/Ukrainians are mostly evangelicals (Baptist, Pentecostal etc.) They aren't that politically active yet but the ones who are have strong GOP/Tea Party leanings. I live in Western Washington, which is one of the most solidly Democratic areas of the country so their votes are pretty much cancelled out by the minority/union/
ReplyDeleteupper-middle-class liberal vote.
According to Baker's _Race_ the "Armenid" head is brachyocephalic, or "flat" in the back.
ReplyDeleteMy mother's aunt who emigrated in the 1950s and who lives in New Jersey and voted Democratic because she's Irish but loathes Obama so I assume she's stopped voting Democrat. She happened to be in Ireland at the time Obama-care was being signed, we were all quite stunned at how a sweet old lady was taken with rage when the issue came up. Her large brood of plain old white American children and grand-children seem pretty leftist. I remember once being told by her son that the reason red states are in the middle and blue states are on the coast was that blue staters like him take more foreign holidays and so their values align more with the rest of the world. I was a teenager and a naive liberal myself then but this struck me as bizarre.
ReplyDeleteAnother aunt lived in Connecticut in the 1980s and 90s and has two girls who were born there and are anchor babies. They go over to Connecticut all the time and and voted for Obama because they're ditzy Lena Dunhamite girls. They made a big deal of it. We have SWPL types too. Their parents are naturalised but don't bother voting because it's a hassle to vote from abroad but they vote for our version of the Tories. Maybe I should have told the Romney campaign?!
There was a big emigration of Irish to America in the 1980s. Many came back in the 2000s. They tend to be liberal by Irish and American standards. More-so than what went to Britain in the same period and came back. I suspect that post 1960s Western European immigrants to America are self selecting leftists. Americans in Europe are. I don't make a habit of asking everyone about their politics, but I don't think I've ever encountered an conservative American in Ireland or Britain.
Most Russian/Eastern European Jewish immigrants hate the communists.
ReplyDeleteNo, they don't. If they did they would make a significant difference in how Jews vote, since those Russian/Eastern European Jewish immigrants make up 12% of the total US Jewish population. (And a lot more than that in the North East)
I used to think that all those Russian Jews who came over in the 1980's and afterwards would act as a corrective to the natural liberalism of American Jews. But I was wrong. Once here, they all vote the same.
The Euros (East or West) that I have met, as well as white Hispanics all tend to be Liberals through and through by US standards, though then again, I work in academia, so this may not reflect the average immigrant.
ReplyDeleteA fairish amount of fair Ukrainian new residents in my area and their political intentions are hard to discern, save they don't really seem very interested in homosexual weddings. Also some Romanians and from the oriental 'Stans. I expect they will be assimilate to California's lawsuit-happy ADA free-tuition fly-by-night norms within the decade.
ReplyDeleteBy contrast the South Asians seem like noisy grad students, in terms of political involvement
Didn't Thatcher already attempt some strategy like this? Didn't work, as I seem to recall
ReplyDelete"Armenians are crazy but very tough people."
ReplyDeleteDon't encourage them, Please. Next thing we know somebody here will nominate Glendale as the ciy black people are shaking in their boots to walk around in.
Flatheads. It is possible for a race/ethnicity to have a distinctive head shape. Where I live in Sacramento there are hordes of Hispanics with a sort of truncated pinhead. Flat-planed on the sides and back and tapering up to a sort of small plateau. It gives them a battering-ram kind of a look
ReplyDelete"IHTG said...
ReplyDeleteYes, Caucasians tend to have flattened occiputs (the backs of their heads). As do many Southern Slavs."
That opinion is different from the one of the traditional view of a Euro skull.
It could be a difference in lifestyle. Many Chinese have flat backs of the head, which they attribute to being placed on their backs in the crib. If there is a recent shift towards a flattened back of the skull in whites, maybe it's due to that, as doctors have 180-d since the time of Dr. Spock and now teach parents to place babies on their backs in the crib instead of their stomachs to reduce the incidence of SIDs.
We have a lot of Poles living here in the UK. Those who Ive talked to show an interest in political matters seem to hold robust views on communists, muslims and jews.
ReplyDeleteIIRC, Poles in Poland love Muslims for being an enemy of an enemy. How Many Muslims are there in or near Poland?
My boss is an old Pole. The only thing in the two years I've been working with him that he has said this whole time even tangentially related to Communism, was that in his day there was only one tv channel, but it was a good channel with interesting events, news and shows. Now he has a million channels but it is all things he has no interest in.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the Cubans (who are also trending Dem) there is no miraculous pro-Republican white immigrant group out there which they'll be able to exploit in time. Through my cursory travels east of Germany the only possible "values voters" I could discern were in Poland, however, the modern GOP's Rovian platform has several details of conflict that prevent it from being a good match. A while back I emailed in an article about Hungary's new prime minister in the Weekly Standard, which illuminates this problem somewhat.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Baker's _Race_ the "Armenid" head is brachyocephalic, or "flat" in the back.
ReplyDeleteThat is not what "brachycephalic" means. It means wide-headed, or elongated on the X-axis (ear-to-ear). "Dolichocephalic" means elongated on the Y-axis (top of head to chin), and "mesocephalic" means elongated on the Z-axis, or nose to back of head. Visualize an American football in these orientations.
irishman,
ReplyDeleteSome of those leftist Americans you encountered might be of the neo-con, Clintonian variety.
There's a lot of young Americans abroad who are certainly cool with muscular internationalism. Lot's of earnest young men and girls. That they oppose the GOP is because guys like Gingrich are icky.
Having had some experience with folks from the CIS countries, what they respect is a leader with b&lls. The opinion on a guy like McCain is split. Many like him because he was tough, but others think he is an idiot, particularly on Syria. Don't mistake a desire for a tough guy, with being cool with a Dubya style war-mongering chivalry, saving Afghan girls and what not.
And the Poles are a different ball game than other Eastern Europeans. Different history, world-view, etc. They are almost as distinct, but not quite, as the Jews, when compared with other Eastern Europeans. Almost every other people in Eastern Europe is Orthodox, which is probably a big part of it. It certainly affects their attitudes towards the West.
Hungarians, Croats and Slovaks are also different for the same reason: Catholicism drew them into the Western orbit and resulted in a less confrontational stance vis-a-vis the West and its conceits.
"Yet in 2004, the Russian-speakers turned out even more strongly for George W. Bush. According to an exit poll, 77% of Russian-speaking Jews in New York voted for the Republican incumbent over his Democratic challenger John Kerry despite the fact that 55% of Russian Jews were registered Democrats and only 25% registered Republicans."

You can play around with this, too:

Most old (pre 60's) Polish immigrants and their working class kids tend to vote Democrat however
ReplyDeleteI think there was always a bedrock of huge numbers of Slavic converts to the New Deal, contrary to this "Eastern-Europeans-are-conservatives" loose theory. Needless to say, these don't always have too much in common w/ today's "lifestyle" Dems, but they were also a bit more savvy and politically perceptive than the current generation of Mexican immigrants. For an insight to this I highly recommend the published works of Mike Royko.
If people are Republican in major urban areas, they tend to be of the "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" variety. In other words, not really conservative.
ReplyDeleteThe flat back of the head thing was discovered by physical anthropologists to their dismay to be heavily affected by nurture as well as nature: it turned out there were a lot of cultures where babies were "cradle-boarded" -- strapped down flat to a hard board, which mom can wear as a backpack. This tended to flatten the back of the skull permanently. Carleton Coon found out about this in the 1930s and then had to revamp a lot of confident theorizing about the genealogy of subracial groups that had been done based on head shapes.
ReplyDeleteAsians bitching about victimhood. WHAT ABOUT THE 250 YRS OF MONGOL RULE OVER RUSSIA???!!!!
ReplyDeleteGET YER HISTORY STRAIGHT, ASIANS!!
Anyway, when, say, Mark Ames at the Exile talks about a bar in Moscow full of "flatheads," what part of the head is he talking about being flat: the back or the top?
ReplyDelete"Yet in 2004, the Russian-speakers turned out even more strongly for George W. Bush. ReplyDeleteWell, 9/11 had something to do with it.
"An old slang word for Swedes, which seems to have died out by the '40s, was "squarehead"."
ReplyDeleteI think in his autobiography Kelly Johnson, the famous Lockheed Skunk Works engineer, described himself as a squarehead to indicate he was Swedish (or Norwegian?), not Irish as many assumed from his nickname.
I think there was always a bedrock of huge numbers of Slavic converts to the New Deal, contrary to this "Eastern-Europeans-are-conservatives" loose theory.
ReplyDeleteThey sound like Yellow Dog Democrats.
50-something Ukrainian middle-class coworker lady who emigrated roughly 1990 votes Republican. She talks a lot about how socialism/Obamacare is what she came here to escape.
ReplyDeleteI'd never watch this, but you might get your question answered here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bravotv.com/shahs-of-sunset
what part of the head is he talking about
ReplyDeleteTop. It's an 80s "Red Heat" type of look, and most Russians are at rock bottom best at least 12 years behind current fashions.
dunno about voting habits, but eastern europeans are terribly un-civic (see also here) -- at least back in their home countries.
ReplyDeleteI think in his autobiography Kelly Johnson, the famous Lockheed Skunk Works engineer, described himself as a squarehead to indicate he was Swedish (or Norwegian?), not Irish as many assumed from his nickname.
ReplyDelete"Squarehead" was still being used in these parts (Seattle) as late as the 90s. Typically, it meant Norwegian. It was usually a term of endearment, as opposed to, say, "Swede."
I think it means the flattop style haircut. Military and tough guy types tend to get them.
ReplyDeleteWhere I live in the MidWest there are a lot of Bosnian refugees (mostly Muslim, although also a few Croats and Serbs), and they vote I would estimate 95% Democrat. This in spite of the fact that they are very entrepreneural and live very conservative, patriarchal lives. I think it's because of the mileau they came from, where Titoist socialism had a certain appeal (Plus they perhaps have an instinctive fear of the Right because of the Chetniks - both those from WWII and the 1992-1995 war).
ReplyDeleteNo, they don't. If they did they would make a significant difference in how Jews vote, since those Russian/Eastern European Jewish immigrants make up 12% of the total US Jewish population. (And a lot more than that in the North East)
ReplyDeleteI think those people are a large part of the 20% or so of Jews who vote Republican.
I just can't understand why there are middle class whites that still live in the Valley Village and Studio City area. Agoura Hills has a spectacular public school system, including a safe high scoring public high school, and many of the same jobs are available in Agoura Hills as are available in the Southeast Valley. I am not an expert but the public high schools in the Southeast Valley I think are pretty "diverse"
ReplyDeleteAs has been pointed out numerous times, there are hundreds of thousands of Ukranian single young women aged 18 to 24 who would like to move to the USA. As you have pointed out, once they get married they will turn in to reliable republican voters
ReplyDeleteI know one Romanian who immigrated here at age 12 and he is rabidly pro-Obama
ReplyDeleteBUT...
It's pretty obvious he just wants to destroy all the whites around him so he can be top dog.
It's my fault, I used to make fun of him as a child. Still do actually...
Re flatheads, I remember a joke from The Prarie Home Companion where somebody says to somebody who may be Swedish, "Well, your head does look kind of flat."
ReplyDeleteThe Russians I've known idolized Ronald Reagan and those cold warriors. Back in the 1990s, my Russian girlfriend was telling me how she didn't like any of the possible candidates for prime minister (Israel), so after going through the list I finally asked, "Well, who do you want to be prime minister of Israel?" She paused half a second and replied, "Margaret Thatcher!"
The back, Steve. Most Russians look like this. Seriously, doesn't everyone notice this?
ReplyDeletePublic voting in big cities drives the status voting element. Do away with roll call voting and Republicans have a chance. Oh what's that they vote secret ballot in cities too then what the heck is peterike talking about.
ReplyDeleteirishfan87
I myself am a Pole, and my political views are governed by a simple truth: the Scots Irish shape the narrative, and thus my blond hair and blue eyes put me squarely in the "evil" camp, regardless of the fact that the Polish people have suffered vastly more discrimination here in the United States and Western aggression back in Europe than most designated "victim groups."
ReplyDeleteNobody cares that Poland was invaded by Germans, Russians, brown Moslems etc and never itself engaged in any extraterritorial colonialism. Nobody cares that the Germans burned the country nearly to the ground in WWII and killed millions of Poles (well, they care about the intersection of the sets of Poles and Jews). Nobody cares that historically, Poles in the US have suffered real discrimination at the hands of nativist groups like the KKK (not that I blame the KKK, just laying out the facts) while Mexicans, Hindoos and the bulk of Orientals came to this country long after such discrimination had become a thing of the past. Nope, it is those latter groups that are the victims, and I am an evil oppressor, not based on any historical "sins" of my ancestors (let alone anything I did personally!) but simply because I happened to be born with the wrong color skin and hair and eyes. Talk about racism!
"Nobody cares that Poland was invaded by Germans, Russians, brown Moslems etc and never itself engaged in any extraterritorial colonialism."
ReplyDeletePoles used to rule over Ukraine.
"Nobody cares that the Germans burned the country nearly to the ground in WWII and killed millions of Poles (well, they care about the intersection of the sets of Poles and Jews)."
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't have yelled 'fire'.
Poles used to rule over Ukraine.
ReplyDeletePlease. We all know that according to the narrative, the particular evil of the "white race" is that it subjugated a wide variety of other races far from the white race's European home. Yeah it's not historically accurate and logically it makes no sense, but such is the power of the narrative. Poland's territorial expansion into neighboring countries is thus-again, under the narrative-not "evil" because the territories in question were adjacent to Poland's borders and the people within them belonged to the same racial group as Poles themselves.
I know that in a sane world, there should be no difference between England colonizing Nigeria and Poland expanding into Lithuania. I'm not making the argument that there is a difference. I'm just saying that under the narrative constructed by the Scotch Irish, Poland committed just a regular old crime, while Britain committed a "hate crime." Yet Poles such as myself are nevertheless grouped together with the British as evil, third world colonizing racists simply because we share the same complexion.
I would expect Bosnians to be Democrats, especially if the GOP is viewed as the Christian, anti-Muslim party.
ReplyDeleteFrom personal observation: many people in eastern Europe DO indeed have flat head rears, and it´s very easily noticeable (I´m surprised that Steve Sailer, of all people, never noticed it - it´s not precisely a subtle feature).
ReplyDeleteIt´s commone among Slavs (Russian, Poles...), Albanians, Italians (yes, a significant minority of Italians, especially in the south, who not only have often a flat rear part of the head - although not so flat as Slavs-, but also a wide, relatively narrow front, all in all, a very characteristic crane). I have also seen the flat back of the head among Kurds from Turkey.
Very subtle observations by Felix, kudos (which, by the way, means "glory" in Greek, in case you americans didn´t know.
ReplyDelete"Squarehead" is also found in some literature to refer to Germans. It was probably used by English and American troops in the first world war.
ReplyDeleteJason said... re Bosnians
ReplyDeleteI think it's because of the mileau they came from, where Titoist socialism had a certain appeal
Didn't Tito create the nation of Bosnia out of an Austrian administrative territory, and give it the same status as Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia?
(Plus they perhaps have an instinctive fear of the Right because of the Chetniks - both those from WWII and the 1992-1995 war).
The Bosnian nationalists, being, well, nationalists, are pretty "Right" themselves. Perhaps you meant Christian Right.
"Squarehead" pretty much means any Germanic nation other than the English.
ReplyDeleteI would expect Bosnians to be Democrats, especially if the GOP is viewed as the Christian, anti-Muslim party.
ReplyDeleteThe GOP didn't become anti-Muslim until after 9-11. In the Cold War they were generally pro-Muslim, then neutral in the 90s.
Actually Poles are guilty of not having invaded non-white lands. That fact prevents non-whites from demanding handouts from Poles. I mean that is so unfair!
ReplyDeleteImagine if Anglos hadn't once colonized Africa and India. The blacks and browns would have no cause to squeeze anglos for dough.
Greedy racist polacks!
Felix: your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. But I think we have to acquiesce to Scots-Irish tyranny anyway.
ReplyDelete'Flatheads'.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting foray into pop anthropology and etymology.
During WW1, German soldiers were referred to as the 'boche' by the French. The word is derived from the French word 'caboche' meaning 'cabbage' and ia reference to the shape of the 'typical' German head. British soldiers in WW1 called Germans the 'squareheads'.
Traditional anthropologists assigned 'grmans' to the 'Nordic subrace', and a distinguishing characteristic was supposed to be a 'long' or dolichocephalic head.
In actual fact the majority of Germans did not and do not have long heads, but are boroad-headed (brachycephalic). The majority f English and French are long-headed.
The locus of broadheadedness on the European continent radiadtes from central Europe outwards, Russians are a broadheaded nation.
A further subrace that was recognised in Europe were the 'Dinarics', who were said to radiate out from Yugoslavia outwards. This subrace is said to be broadheaded,, but distinguished by a flat occiput, or back of skull (most Englsh, in comparison have a projecting occiput). This subrace is well represented throughout eastern and central Europe, including Russia and Ukraine.

Not much detail there, but, you asked. Despite being hobbled in places by routine academic-progressive noble lying, the main point of the article is correct--if she means Republicans are exurban VRA opportunists.
They sound like Yellow Dog Democrats
ReplyDeleteUm yeah, except for being alcoholic Slavic bricklayers instead of tobacco-chewing varmint-hunting sons of the soil, those pre-glastnost Eastern Europe immigrants do bear a lot of resemblance to Yellow Dog Dems I guess?
Chicago Poles who were old enough to remember Communism and laughable school film propaganda about the glorious harvests always over quota and the endless productivity of the industrial sector generally vote R. Hence Newt Gingrich's appearance at the Taste of Polonia Festival with his Polish wife in 2011. To the generations who remember '89, Reagan is just below PJP II and Solidarity on the Pole totem pole. Few change their surnames. However, a Polish bartender I knew did change her last name during the citizenship process. Having worked in downtown Chicago, she changed her name after one of her favorite Presidential street signs, Van Buren. I told her the name was Dutch. She said, "so what? Eddie Van Halen is Dutch and an American, and I love Eddie Van Halen!"
ReplyDeleteYet Poles such as myself are nevertheless grouped together with the British as evil, third world colonizing racists simply because we share the same complexion.
ReplyDeleteIn a similar vein the usual suspects in a debate about immigration in the US will often say that whites are bothered about immigration they should leave and go back to Europe. Which MUST logically mean that Europeans have the right to eject non-whites from Europe. Except, somehow, it doesnt. As the argument crosses the Atlantic it mutates into something else.
The enemy get to have it both ways all the time.
Considering that Bosnian muslims had their own SS division during world war II i doubt they fear 'the right'. They vote democrat for the same reason all other muslims do. The democrats are the pro palestinian, pro islam, pro muslim immigration, anti christian party.
ReplyDeleteThe standard military cut in Russia / Slavic countries is a shaved head. This is in no small part due to the prevalence of lice which are thick there and the fact that people spend winters huddled together wearing large amounts of clothing which are hard to clean and dry. As a result, there are an awful lot of young men in Russia that have burr cuts. Every hair on their heads is the exact same length and because it is so short it all sticks straight out.
ReplyDelete"As has been pointed out numerous times, there are hundreds of thousands of Ukranian single young women aged 18 to 24 who would like to move to the USA. As you have pointed out, once they get married they will turn in to reliable republican voters."
ReplyDeleteThat explains why they're the one group of immigrants that our immigration officials work hard to keep out.
--IIRC, Poles in Poland love Muslims for being an enemy of an enemy. How Many Muslims are there in or near Poland?
ReplyDelete--Poland, in its expansionist glory of "from sea to sea," i.e., from the Baltic to the Black Sea, struggled against the Muslims while the foundations of the Enlightenment were being laid down in the West. All the way until 1683's "Siege of Vienna" and the turn (literally, the "triumph") over the Turks, with significant if not decisive Polish assistance. Hungary struggled against Islam much longer, and its rescue came at the price of Habsburg/Austrian submission.
One of the key texts of popular-nationalist Polish literature, the "Huck Finn" of Polish literature if you will, is "Pan Wolodyjowski," the story of Poland's struggle against Islam--along with Russia and Sweden, the other two parts of Sienkiewicz's trilogy. Nobel Prize winner, and it's all translated, praised by Faulkner in his own Nobel Prize speech, highly recommended. Part of the essential mental furniture of the Poles for generations.
"Nobody cares that Poland was invaded by Germans, Russians, brown Moslems etc and never itself engaged in any extraterritorial colonialism."
ReplyDeleteMaybe the real problem for the elites is that Jan Sobieski put a foot in the ass of the Muslims' dreams of European conquest. Well, at least for 300 years anyway....
As Soviet-born Scots Irish in LA go: virtually all the people who remember the USSR vote Republican or can't be bothered to register. Aside from the Hasids, their US-born kids tend to drink the Flavor Aid by the time they hit 18.
ReplyDeleteDuring WW1, German soldiers were referred to as the 'boche' by the French. The word is derived from the French word 'caboche' meaning 'cabbage' and ia reference to the shape of the 'typical' German head.
ReplyDeleteThat is the French equivalent of "Kraut" which means "cabbage" in German. It's also short for sauerkraut.
Traditional anthropologists assigned 'grmans' to the 'Nordic subrace', and a distinguishing characteristic was supposed to be a 'long' or dolichocephalic head.
ReplyDeleteIn actual fact the majority of Germans did not and do not have long heads, but are boroad-headed (brachycephalic).
Finally, someone is using the terms "dolichocephalic" and "brachycephalic" correctly.
"Pan Wolodyjowski,"
ReplyDeleteThat has a depressing and gloomy ending.
Poland is a funny case. Racially, it is much like Northern Europe. Many Poles look like Germans or even Swedes or Englishmen. But Polish language is Slavic like Russian 'mongol horde' race.
ReplyDeleteThough Poles look like Northern Europeans, they are Catholic, which culturally aligns them with Latins and Southern Europeans.
No wonder Poles have been so confused over the ages. And I guess being stuck between Germany and Russia was not the best geographical fortune in the world.

ReplyDeleteTry being stuck between Poland, Russia, Austra-Hungery, and the Baltic States.
Try being stuck on a little island north-west of England.
Try being stuck in a mountain range between Russia, Persia, Turkey (or the Ottoman and Byzantine empires).
No discussion of the 'gold chainer' of the decade?
ReplyDeleteArmenians may not be stupid but they certainly are not that smart either. I lend money to this community (and live on a street that is 95% Armenian) and I can tell you for certain that they make almost all of their money from scams.
ReplyDeleteThis is not uncommon in some LA communities but the Armenians take this to another level. They collectively seem to lack any kind of conscience.
A lot of their scams involve the government so they would actually be more likely to vote Democratic if they thought things through. If my neighborhood is any clue none of them voted for anyone - they stayed home on election day.
The only people that actually voted in my neighborhood from visiting the polls was a suspiciously high number of self important looking whites and the odd over-joyed looking black person.
There are white immigrants? Can we have a moment's silence?
ReplyDeleteSevern-
ReplyDelete“I've known a number of of people from countries which were formerly behind the Iron Curtain who are now living in New York. They're all very left-wing in their politics.”

“Russian Jews are very liberal and see white cons as akin to Russian goy antisemites.”
Umm no, bullshit.
I'm a soviet immigrant Jew who lives in Brooklyn so I have a lot of first hand knowledge.
A lot of Russian speaking Jews are Republicans, this is pretty well documented.
It's not just Regan or the Soviet Union they are more likely to mention how Giuliani saved New York.
Many are small business owners, and they tend to live in the same areas as Italians and other white outer borough whites- southern Brooklyn , Staten Island, New Jersey.
They're not too crazy about NAMs or gay marriage either.
They voted heavily for former Republican congressman Bob Turner, who replaced Anthony Weiner.
There was also a Republican NY State Senator David Storobin (russian jew) for 7 months.
Both Turner's and Storobin's districts were gerrymandered out of existence.
These new district maps include neighborhoods with lots of immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

Sheepshead Bay neighborhood is part of NY-9 which is 50% black and 30% white.
http://www.latfor.state.ny.us/maps/2012c/fc08.pdf
Brighton Beach is part of NY-8 which is 52% black and 22% white.
This bring up another problem with the whole white immigrant vote, most of them live in ubran areas controlled by Democrats. When they refuse to follow the path the liberal elites have chosen for them, the Democratic party will render their vote meaningless through redistricting.
Similarly, Borough Park is lumped together with Manhattan's Upper West Side in the ridiculous looking NY-10. No matter how the ultra-orthodox jews decide to vote they will be represented by a pro-gay marriage Manhattan liberal.

ReplyDelete-----Understandably enough, Chekhov developed an uncompromising work ethic. As his tales and plays illustrate, Russians tended to value carelessness, idleness, and deliberate waste of resources, while regarding thrift as something fit for Germans. Chekhov saw in such attitudes the reason for Russia’s backwardness and self-righteous oppression of others. When he heard some Russians criticize the British exploitation of Hong Kong, he replied: “Yes, the English exploit the Chinese, the Sepoys, and the Hindus, but they do give them roads, aqueducts, museums, and Christianity; you exploit them too, but what do you give them?”----

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see someone remembers Ludmilla Turescheva. I had a crush on her. She had some choice meat on her bones unlike the pixie teeny-bopper fan fave Olga Korbut.
ReplyDeleteWhen he heard some Russians criticize the British exploitation of Hong Kong, he replied: “Yes, the English exploit the Chinese, the Sepoys, and the Hindus, but they do give them roads, aqueducts, museums, and Christianity; you exploit them too, but what do you give them?”
ReplyDeleteI wonder how a Circassian would answer that question.
Yes, the English exploit the Chinese, the Sepoys, and the Hindus, but they do give them roads, aqueducts, museums, and Christianity; you exploit them too, but what do you give them?
ReplyDeleteAnd the Japanese gave themselves roads, aqueducts, and museums, but did not bother with Christianity, and became a world power. That's got to be the greatest miracle ever.
The back, Steve. Most Russians look like this. Seriously, doesn't everyone notice this?
ReplyDeleteMost people never see any Russians.
