Kathy Shaidle points to this news story:
King was caught and sentenced to 25 years in prison after the [Paula] Deen robbery and a separate robbery. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, now and when we spoke to him, he actually broke down in tears. He blames himself for Paula Deen’s troubles.
“I really feel for her,” King said. “She’s being persecuted because of that one little mistake in her judgment. She was acting out of anger.”
King had 13 prior convictions for robbery before he pointed a gun at Paula Deen. He says he’s turned his life around.
But the Paula Deen empire is crashing down. More of her business partners are severing ties with her. JCPenney and Sears are the latest to jump ship.
Being a crime victim is racist.
He may point guns at people and rob them, but, hey, he doesn't say bad words!
ReplyDeleteA data point against the libertarian thesis that commercial self-interest will trump taste-based discrimination: Paula Deen's publisher Ballantine (Random House) cancelled her book contracts despite massive preorders on Amazon indicating a near certainty of profit. No one can afford to be linked to a witch, not even for big money.
ReplyDeleteIncidences like these are the surest indicators that "Something wicked this way comes". When business is forgoing profit in order to appear correct, we can be sure that the state is about to assume omnipotence.
ReplyDeleteThis is very similar to Germany at the ascension of the Nazis to power. Business was falling over themselves to show who could be more Nazi then the next guy.
Give it a few years, and we're there. However, the only fly in the ointment is financial collapse. When, not if, that happens, all bets are off as to which way we go - liberty or totalitarianism.
Kathy Boudin is a former member of the Weather Undergound. She participated in a robbery where a man was killed. She pled guilty to murder. But now she's out of prison and is "adjunct professor at Columbia University School of Social Work", which Wikipedia has the decency to say was a "controversial appointment". It seems poor Ms Deen can expect no such forgiveness for her, uhh, crime. Which seems to confirm what many have long suspected: to certain segments of society, being a racist is worse than being a leftist murderer.
ReplyDeleteI'm personally more interested in Paula Deen's recipes and hearing her say "Add more butter, y'all" than in what party themes she thinks are cute or appropriate, but I have to admit I'm baffled. Didn't she have a publicist to warn her against this?
ReplyDeleteHuman nature is such that our societies will always concoct witches to burn, so the best you can do is take basic steps to avoid plainly fitting the witch's description in the eyes of people on whom you depend for a living. Like for example not throwing a slavery-themed party when you're a white, southern, nationally-famous TV icon with a mostly female viewership.
I can think of many examples of ideology defeating the profit motive.
ReplyDeleteIf pro sports teams were allowed to be monoethnic, the leagues' profits would soar. Back when it was typical for national soccer teams to be monoethnic, European streets were deserted during international games. Work stopped. The entire populations of those countries were watching.
Imagine the NFL consisting of a few black teams, a few southern white teams, some Midwestern white teams, an Italian-American team, an Irish-American one, a Hispanic team, maybe a few others. All other forms of entertainment, safe for porn and hard drugs, would shrivel. NFL revenues would go up by an order of magnitude. Only ideology prevents this.
Being racist is worse than being a murderer, period -- unless it's being a racist murderer, or protecting yourself against a black assailant with deadly force.
ReplyDeleteThe only crime considered worse than racism in the western world is child molestation, and I'm not even sure about that anymore.
Message to employers: try to avoid hiring blacks who have this weapon to use against you, discrimination lawsuits.
ReplyDelete"Didn't she have a publicist to warn her about this?"
ReplyDeleteWhat? Perhaps you missed the news story.
While giving a legal deposition, Deen admitted to having spoken the N-word some years back. If she had denied ever speaking the N-word, she would have ended up like Mark Fuhrman. Since she admitted speaking the N-word, she ended up like Mark Fuhrman.
I doubt anyone in America over the age of 3 has never spoken the N-word, so everyone is guilty of witchcraft, convicted already and sentenced to outlawry, execution of sentence suspended until he or she has a legal conflict with someone of diversityness.
If Mr. King had any personal integrity whatsoever, he would have said, "you know, at that time, I was exactly what Paula Deen said I was, and I resent anyone attempting to imply I as any better than that."
ReplyDeleteWhen business is forgoing profit in order to appear correct, we can be sure that the state is about to assume omnipotence.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure "business" is forgoing profit to *appear* correct rather than forgoing profit to enforce correctness? Are you sure Random House is a follower rather than a leader in this regard? And even if it is a follower, are you sure that cutting Deen loose doesn't help its bottom line?
Supporting Paula Deen might result in its demise through boycotting in the same way the boycott of Paula Deen is destroying her financial prospects.
Under the circumstances, I can think of no one more qualified than armed robber Eugene Thomas King to pass moral judgment on Paula Dean. If he can forgive her for the terrible injustice she did him, surely Matt Lauer can find it in his heart to do so.
ReplyDeleteToo bad she wasn't a victim of racism. That would have put her in a protected class where she could say whatever the hell she wants....Oh wait...nevermind.
ReplyDeleteThat poor old mister King. I feel so sorry him the way he feels so sorry for Paula Deen. What a noble gesture...
Baldwin, you are right, Eugene Thomas King, a gun carrying criminal is the most decent person in the whole story.
ReplyDeleteAKAHorace
She may have made things much worse by apologizing.
ReplyDeletePaula Deen should just go on the attack. Attack all those corporate sleazeballs and publishers who have treated her so badly. It's clear apologizing isn't getting her anywhere, so what's the harm?
ReplyDeleteGood Lord, this whole thing is surreal.
As Chris Rock pointed out, getting robbed by a black person is not enough to justify using the n-word:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63M34s8afbo
I was unaware of the details of the controversy before clicking the link. She's being sued for a racially hostile work environment BY A WHITE EMPLOYEE. Should be case dismissed right there.
ReplyDeleteSo this POS has committed 13 serious crimes and is given a second chance each time, but Paula Deen says a single racist word about him 27 years ago as a result of him pointing a gun at her face, and no amount of sackclothes and ashes, are to ever pardon her, she's supposed to just lose everything and wear it until the day she dies (and beyond?)? What sort of insane nation have we become? This is all imposed from above, the slave morality, most people even being lied to from their childhood see through it and disagree, as evidenced by the fact that ~2/3 to 80% of people tend to disagree with liberals at each polling. What we need to do is just say enough is enough and start acting back with teeth. Boycott the companies that boycotted Dean, buy Dean products, etc. And support other whites who are screwed- show the world that overall they benefit from going against the left instead of getting screwed for it.
ReplyDelete"Kathy Boudin is a former member of the Weather Undergound. She participated in a robbery where a man was killed. She pled guilty to murder. ReplyDelete- How brainwashed with leftism did she have to be to not only participate in a violent bank robbery, but to also do it while she had an infant child at home? That's the epitome of someone who drank the feminism koolaid. And the dolt father went along for it too. T
>Supporting Paula Deen might result in [a company's] demise through boycotting in the same way the boycott of Paula Deen is destroying her financial prospects.<
ReplyDeleteSounds very logical in pixels, but are the two equally realistic in this case? Who would boycott a company for not dropping Deen? A handful compared to Deen's fan base. "The boycott of Paula Deen" isn't coming from any significant segment of the public. It's coming largely from the PC companies showing her the door.
America's sport of setting up then ankling home-grown "heroes," "icons," and other magnificos was noted 100 years ago by Mencken. It's somehow reassuring to know that we have been nutty for a long time. The names of the heresies change, the hunt stays the same.
Deen was a typical Obama supporter. If it was someone else, she'd be part of the liberal lynch mob, or playing Pontius Pilate.
ReplyDeleteAnother lefty finds out their "I'm not a racist" certificate has expired.
Our host Steve wrote "Being a crime victim is racist."
ReplyDeleteThat's very insightful!
Alleged victims of crimes allegedly perpetrated by people of diversityness are racists because their obviously false complaints suggest that some diverse people are criminals, which we all know is impossible.
Really, since only white people are criminals, anyone who claims to be a victim of a diverse criminal is a racist liar just trying to incite other racists to lynch innocent diverse people.
"Gay green card petition approval is US first - lawyer"
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23140288
"A Bulgarian student who is married to an American has become the first gay man to have his application for a green card granted, says their lawyer.
The breakthrough is seen as proof of US visa policies quickly adapting to last week's historic Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage.
Traian Popov, who wed Julian Marsh in New York, may now apply for immigration benefits and a permanent resident visa."
This seems similar to the Rush Limbaugh slut incident.
ReplyDeleteI think the real reason she is being targeted, is because she promotes unhealthy eating.
Child molestation worse than racism?? Michael Jackson bf'd at least 2 kids and they commemorate his birthday.
ReplyDeleteThis Paula Deen scandal confirms what I've known for 15 years - liberals are mentally ill and this country is being ruined by them.

Dude's a saint. It's hard to believe that people would fall for a 13-time loser's hustle.
This young c****y a*s c*****r better watches his mouth.
ReplyDeleteI would feel a lot more sympathy for her if she didn't make a living promoting greasy foods which are bad for my heart, and yours.
ReplyDeleteMcCarthyism is going after real, evil people. This isn't McCarthyism. Words do change meanings, but it's outrageously unfair to Joe McCarthy to use his name this way. Probably a futile crusade, I know. Anyhow,

Obviously a famous black movie/music/sports star can do whatever they want -- I meant for Joe Q. Whitey, being "racist" against blacks is a worse crime than murder, maybe even worse than child molestation.
ReplyDeleteDeen was an all-out Obama shill, so all I'm feeling here for her predicament is a nice big fat juicy bacon-greased slab of schadenfreude.

.................................................................................
Deen's corporate Auto Da Fe isn't akin to the Nazification of the German Business class, because in our times, the elites aren't trying to impress anyone but themselves. They ARE the power drunk fascist lunatics in this story. IMO, her destruction can be seen as an act of in-group solidarity by members of America's incestuous aristocracy. As such, it made good business sense to throw her under the bus.
In the long run, a slight dip in quarterly earnings is nothing if it means good standing as a member of the shotcaller class. What does RH care about loosing profits on a single cook book if, for example, dropping Deen means access to the gargantuan captive market provided by the education industrial complex?

"I think the real reason she is being targeted, is because she promotes unhealthy eating."
ReplyDeleteIt's really a class issue. One of the pundits who piled on Paula Deen referred to her fan base as "diabetic simpletons". Now, it's true that eating too much of her kinds of food can increase the risks of getting Type 2 Diabetes. But it's also true that having lots of anal sex can increase the risks of getting AIDS, anal cancer or bacterial meningitis, etc., but there's a reason why Bloomberg goes after big sodas and not gay sex clubs.
"The only crime considered worse than racism in the western world is child molestation, and I'm not even sure about that anymore."
ReplyDeleteI've given a lot to this, and I've come to your latter conclusion. Child molesters almost always were molested as children themselves, so that makes child molesters into victims themselves, and we all know that designated victims are better than everyone else in every way.
ReplyDelete"Never apologize, mister. It's a sign of weakness."
John Wayne as Capt. Nathan Brittles, in John Ford's "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon."
Yup. Thats the great thing about those South Park guys. They NEVER apologize for stepping on,nay smashing toes with a hammer.
Showing weakness and grovelling only encourages the bullies.
I personally find Paula Deen to be a repugnant individual. However having an unpleasant personality is not illegal , only unsavory actions are.
A distinction sadly lost on most liberals.

Glenn Beck should offer Paula Dean a spot on his emerging Network,

I contributed to his fund and I hope many others did so as well. Can you imagine anyone contributing to a fund set up for a typical time-serving member of Conservatism Inc like Rich Lowry or Jonah Goldberg? Such men leave no mark.
"Being a crime victim is racist"
ReplyDeleteLet's take that further
If you are an employer who conducts background and criminal records checks on your future employees, you are racist:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jul/2/now-its-racist-to-pass-on-hiring-ex-cons/
Let's take that further
ReplyDeleteIf you are an employer who conducts background and criminal records checks on your future employees, you are racist
Or further:
Complaining about the low quality of students coming out of the schools is racist: they're disproportionately black.
Complaining about high insurance rates is racist: blacks drive rates up.
Advocating for stronger law enforcement is racist: criminals are disproportionately black.
Advocating for a stronger criminal code is racist: criminals are disproportionately black.
Advocating for tough drug-enforcement is racist: drug dealers are disproportionately black.
Advocating for lower taxes is racist: tax-recipients are disproportionately black, while tax-payers are disproportionately white.
Advocating for smaller gov't is racist: users of gov't services are disproportionately black, while tax-payers are disproportionately white.
Advocating for freedom of speech is racist: hate speech laws target racists.
Advocating for tighter regulation of litigation is racist: blacks are highly litigious.
Lauding the combat troops, especially the elite, of our military is racist: they're disproportionately white, while the REMFs are disproportionately black.
Refusing to fill out your organ donor card is racist: blacks are over-represented among organ recipients, and under-represented among organ donors.
Et cetera.
Praising charitable giving is racist: blacks are under-represented among givers, and whites are over-represented.
ReplyDeleteTipping is racist, because blacks are crappy tippers, and whites are better tippers. So tipping, and any job highly dependent on tips, are racist.
Laws, order, civilization, and technology are all racist.
I think maybe 50 to 90% of everything good in the universe is racist, actually.
@Dave Pinsen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the NYTimes link on meningitis. Wow, just wow.
It touches upon a Sailer theme: willed ignorance.
"It has targeted gay and bisexual men, and nobody knows exactly why."
Targeted gay and bisexual men....can anyone guess why? It's a bacteria, I guess it must have said, "I hate gay and bi men, I'm going to target them."
These bacteria should be prosecuted for hate crimes.
Advocating healthy eating is racist: blacks like pig's feet, chitlins, fried chicken, etc.
ReplyDeleteAnti-obesity campaigns are racist: they stigmatize fat people, and black women are the fattest race/sex demographic on the planet.
Advocating people watch less television is racist: blacks watch 7 hours of television a day, compared to 5 hours of television a day for whites (and 2 for yellows, the only race in America able to lay claim to a non- or almost-non-shameful daily TV watching average, IMO).
NBC's "The New Normal" its most highly promoted 2012 new sitcom. Now cancelled it was a nasty piece of Cultural Marxist propaganda about a Gay couple getting married and having a surrogate child from a divorced mother with a elementary school age child from fly over country.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like something from one of Covington's novels.

ReplyDeleteThe best way to apologize is to call a press conference, then begin with, "I'm here to apologize...for forgetting to mention that mean black IQ is 85, that the children of poor whites outscore the children of rich blacks on IQ tests and proxy tests, that the black-white IQ gap persists even in studies of twins separated at birth and raised in rich households, that blacks are only 12% of the population but commit half the murders, that the black rape rate is six times the white rape rate, that blacks are riddled with STDs," etc. Just to see how much you can squeeze in before your mike's cut off.
Sounds very logical in pixels, but are the two equally realistic in this case? Who would boycott a company for not dropping Deen?
ReplyDeleteABC, NBC, CBS, NYT, WSJ, WaPo, AJC, ADL, JCPA, IRS, and all the other institutions and organizations that actually matter.
A handful compared to Deen's fan base. "The boycott of Paula Deen" isn't coming from any significant segment of the public. It's coming largely from the PC companies showing her the door.
And that's the point. The public has no power.

ReplyDeleteOh, sorry, I was just counting down to Whiskey masturbating in the comments over today's Drudge headline, "Throngs Of Women Come To Hernandez's Defense..."
So Paula Deen is under fire for "uttering a slur"? You have my attention, journalists, but, uh.... What? When? Where? Why?
ReplyDeleteMy present state of knowledge after giving this Paula Deen thing after I read a few articles on it and then gave up: She "uttered a slur" (maybe the N-word; not %100 sure). She may or may not have said whatever-it-is in the context of an armed robbery thirty years ago.
The US media may trust us less with specific info when it comes to racism than the Chinese media trusts its readers with info on Tiananmen Square.
Greasy foods are not bad for your heart. Sugar is.
ReplyDeleteDepends on the grease. Did she promote healthy animal fats or deadly industrial seed oils?

The only way she could redeem herself at this stage is if she shot George Zimmerman between the eyes.
ReplyDelete@Piper: Indeed, I have now discovered that I received a heavily misreported version of the news story.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the risks of avoiding any media calling itself journalism, but then again that risk would still be there even if I watched the news.

ReplyDeleteI contributed to his fund and I hope many others did so as well.
Thank you, Harry -- THANK YOU! -- and many thanks once again to the hundreds of others who donated. In my mind, the generous support I got easily eclipsed the cackling of the mob and the sanctimony of the hypocrites.
In all charity, though, I'd just note that I'm an old guy with a paid-off mortgage, a working wife, and more or less self-supporting kids. This kind of thing is much tougher on a younger person like Jason Richwine. A case like that should, I think, be cut some slack on the apology business.
None of that applies to Paula Deen, who's close to my age and drives a much nicer car than mine. She should have stood up to the witch-hunters. What's happened to Southern womanhood? Scarlett O'Hara wouldn't have groveled.
Are they to the point yet where the defense attorney asks the judge to dismiss the case because the prosecution is obviously pulling it out of their ass? Or is that just a TV thing?
