Amnesty isn't just for immigrants, it's for politicians

We shouldn't overlook the symbolic importance of amnesty (a.k.a., "immigration reform"). It's intended to do two things: retroactively legalize the illegal aliens' lawbreaking and retroactively justify the politicians in using lawbreaking to elect a new people to vote for them.

And if that doesn't work, we will just go on calling the 1965 Immigration Act, "Teddy Kennedy's Immigration Law".

  3. Amnesty is the act of our politicians flagrantly disobeying the law, getting away with it, bragging about it, then daring us to do anything to stop them. They do it because they can, because they want to, because they despise us. Most voters are sheep, and most are stupid.

Has there ever been an elite that has so despised its own citizenry as much as our current ruling class?

  5. amnesty is also for the thousands of employers who lure the immigrants here by offering them jobs at wages Americans can't live on. Ever heard of BP busting them? How many are in the federal joint right now for doing so?

    Speaking of Politicians...

Putin, George Bush, and Cameron are riding in a car, when they hit a deer, spin off the road and crash. They wake up in hell. Walking around, they see a phone at the devil's desk. Putin asks if he can make a phone call to someone, and the devil says,"Yes, but you have to pay the toll charge." So Putin calls back to a contact in Russia. 10 minutes later, he slams the phone down. The devil tells him," that will be 10 million dollars". Putin writes him a check. Cameron follows, placing a call to a trusted friend in England. 15 minutes later, he hangs up. The devil tells him,"OK. That will be $15 million dollars." So Cameron writes him a check drawn on the Bank of England. George Bush picks up the phone and calls Barbara, talking for 2 hours. When he hangs up, the devil tells him," that will be 25 cents." He pulls out a quarter from his pocket, slams it on the desk, and walks back to his comrades. Putin and Cameron look shocked. "Why was his only 25 cents?" asks Putin. The devil laughed and replied,"Well, ever since Obama took office, the country has gone to hell, so the US is a local call."

  7. There's nothing in the dictionary definition of amnesty that allows for "retroactive legalization". That comes later in the lexicon, under gift, prize, and reward.

Using the weasel word amnesty, therefore, is worse than counterproductive, it's surrender. It's kissing the other side's butts.

So why do you guys keep doing so?

And how many "workers' advocates" fight to keep them out of it? SEIU, AFL-CIO, UFW?

Your dues-- keeping corrupt bosses at large.

Pretty much all elites in history have been contemptuous of the masses. Our current ones are far better than those from centuries past, but are worse compared to those of more recent decades. Globablization plus the increasing concentration of wealth at the top is largely responsible. Guys like the Kochs, Adelson, etc. can drop tens of millions on an election without feeling any pain whatsoever.

Correct. The current bill isn't amnesty - it's amnesty plus reward. If you steal a car but are granted amnesty, you are forgiven for stealing the car, but that doesn't mean you get to keep it.

  11. Where is your humanity? They weren't "illegal", the border crossed them. You don't need amnesty when you've done nothing wrong. The real question is what about reparations?

  12. @Reg Caesar and Anon:

Amnesty is one of those words that'll soon be given a different dictionary defintion due to the millions of times it's used in the media with a meaning never intended for it. Of course amnesty in its proper sense would merely mean people being deported without being fined or otherwise punished for being in the country illegally. Come to think of it, is anyone ever punished just for that? I've never heard of it happening.

  13. Harvard-Yale-Princeton need strict quotas:
    51% African-AMERICAN
41% Hispanic (99% born either outside these United States or anchor babies-born to illegals)
    8% non-white and non-asian transgendered-queer-transexuals-etc.

And it should start with the faculty, RIGHT NOW! Tenure is no excuse to perpetuate the facist patriarchal hegemonic E M P I R E.

  14. Exactly right, Steve.

It's more of a moral issue than anything else - criminals are being rewarded with a prize for willfully and flagrantly violating the law of the land, an absolutely terrible message for any democratic state based on the rule of law to propound. Basically it's spitting in the face of everyone who did the right thing and came to the USA by the proper legal channels, or put it another way, it's a bit like AA where magic brownie points are given to people who never earned them over the heads of people who actually did the hard work and got the grades. It's the way that corrupt dictatorships and old-time feudal states used to operate. Geore Washington had afew things to say about that.

As for electing a new people, well you can't do better than the UK's New Labour in that regard. Such has been the scale of influx in the UK that the Tories will never, ever be able to win again sometime around 2030 if you don't believe me just look at the demographics, parliamentary majorities and 'ethnic' voting patterns. So basically the 'red flag' will fly high above the UK for perpetuity. Messrs Keir Hardie, McDonald, Attlee, Wilson, Kinnock etc although you might have despised Tony Blair, you should kiss his malodorous arse, yep, the old Thatcherite managed to do for you what 100 years of Fabian socialism faiiled - he killed the Tories and handed you Britain on a platter. Allf rom a rather odd and unexpected strategem.
