Civil Rights Anniversary Season has become never-ending. We are currently in the thralls of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 1954 decision Brown v. Board of Education. Our First Black President has stepped back on this task, perhaps because of his preppie private education, and delegated Mrs. Obama:
Michelle Obama Cites View of Growing Segregation
By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG MAY 16, 2014
TOPEKA, Kan. — Sixty years after the Supreme Court outlawed “separate but equal” schools for blacks and whites, civil rights advocates say American schools are becoming increasingly segregated, while the first lady, Michelle Obama, lamented that “many young people are going to schools with kids who look just like them.”
“Today, by some measures, our schools are as segregated as they were back when Dr. King gave his final speech,” Mrs. Obama told 1,200 graduating high school seniors Friday here in the city that gave rise to the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case.
In a speech that was part commencement address, part policy pronouncement and part journey into her own past, Mrs. Obama said that Brown’s advances were being reversed. “Many districts in this country have actually pulled back on efforts to integrate their schools, and many communities have become less diverse,” she said, leading to schools that are less diverse.
You know, a system based on using the white majority of children to buffer the dysfunctions of minorities depends upon having a white majority of children, which the media recently was celebrating doesn't exist anymore among pre-schoolers.
“And too often,” Mrs. Obama said, “those schools aren’t equal, especially ones attended by students of color which too often lag behind.”
As opposed to the students in those schools.
For Mrs. Obama, too, the visit was personal. She was born in Chicago at a time when public schools were still resisting integration. By the time she entered high school, the city — under pressure from the federal government — opened an integrated magnet school for high achievers, which Mrs. Obama credits with setting her on a path to Princeton and Harvard.
And Michelle lived happily ever after.
Well, no actually, at Whitney Young H.S., Princeton, Harvard Law School, while trying to pass the Illinois bar exam, and while washing out of Sidley and the law profession entirely, she constantly felt like people were judging as not smart enough to be there without her affirmative action privileges.
I wrote up the whole story of Michelle's academic career and struggles and resentment of her test scores in 2008 in VDARE.
Lots of people wonder why the President has never released his test scores, but the explanation might be his wife's fragile ego, since I'll bet you dollars to donuts his were a lot better than hers.
We are currently in the thralls of celebrating the 60th anniversary...
ReplyDeleteHere in the monastery of modern PC life, should we call these things Matins, or Vespers?
I'm waiting for someone to ask what we have gotten for all these laws, all this investment in civil rights. Micro-aggressions continue apace.

ReplyDeleteForget Global Warming, forget Terrorism, forget World War Gay and Transvestite, something even worse is happening, we are running out of White people to blame things on. Maybe White Hispanics can take over? Or how about honorary White Asians?
I am surprised that the NYT’s has not written an editorial about this crisis.
Meanwhile, the world awaits with baited breath Ta-Nehisi Coates' upcoming ATLANTIC piece. TNC, apparently, has decided that the only solution to the Black dilemma is reparations. Looking forward to the MSM reaction.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that the expression "dollars to doughnuts" was more effective when doughnuts cost less than a dollar.
ReplyDelete"Well, no actually, at Whitney Young H.S., Princeton, Harvard Law School, while trying to pass the Illinois bar exam, and while washing out of Sidley and the law profession entirely, she constantly felt like people were judging as not smart enough to be there without her affirmative action privileges."
ReplyDeleteWeirdly, Sotomayor actually tried to argue that affirmative action is necessary because people try to make people like Sonia feel that they are not qualified to attend elite schools. Cart before horse. People doubt the qualifications of NAMs because of affirmative action.
There's still a lot we don't know about intelligence. We know a person that scores 106 will have better broad intellectual ability than someone that scores, say, 60 , but a lot of the mechanisms for learning are a mystery. Like why an idiot savant can memorize a phone book but cannot do a word problem. We're in inchoate stage of understanding what it truly means to understand.
ReplyDeleteMichelle Obama might well run for President. Hillary is old, very ill, and already many in the Democratic Party are grasping the obvious: a coalition built on Black people as the core, must have Black leaders. There is no room for White men OR Women at the top -- that must go to Blacks first and foremost.
ReplyDeleteThis works on several levels. First, no media person or Republican can criticize a Black person because of the power disparities. Blacks have too much power to allow that; Whites far too little to be able to criticize.
Secondly, a Black leader mobilizes the Inner City to vote five, six times for their candidate. Assuring victory.
Of course, Oprah, Magic, Al Sharpton, Cory Booker, and Adrian Fenty would all like to be President. But Michelle has Obama's fundraiser info, his ability to turn the NSA and FBI and IRS on enemies, and the natural Kirchner-like successor to the cult of personality built upon Obama. Don't cry for me America, the truth is Barack never left you!
Hence the crusade. Yes Michelle Obama like most angry Black women (which is the vast majority) turn off White guys. But by the same token she'll engage and delight White women who share the same enemy: beta male White guys.
America is just one announcement away from being even more of a joke than Argentina.
Desegregation in other words:
ReplyDeleteEven blacks would prefer to go to school with white students.

2014 is a two-fer (at least) for civil rights anniversaries. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and sixty years since Brown v. Topeka Board of Education.
ReplyDelete"Meanwhile, the world awaits with baited breath Ta-Nehisi Coates' upcoming ATLANTIC piece. TNC, apparently, has decided that the only solution to the Black dilemma is reparations. Looking forward to the MSM reaction."
ReplyDeleteHaven't we reached the point of no return? Does anyone here actually believe that America can be saved?
My political strategy is to concede everything to liberals.
We spend billions on think tanks and studies to try and prove our arguments correct. None of this is effective.
Why not just concede everything to liberals and when everything goes to hell we can say, "told you that would happen."
One problem with this is that liberals will just shift the goal posts. Apparently making racism illegal still wasn't enough to close the gap. Now we have to pay blacks money? And when that fails, what next?
If you follow the logic to its end, then it leads to the erasure of whites. We tried making racism illegal, didn't work. We tried affirmative action, nope. Now Coates wants us to try reparations -- that won't work either.
What's left? Either the left admits that it was wrong, or it goes to the next step, declaring some form of ethnic cleansing of whites.
And here is where the greatest irony in the world's history comes in. If Nicholas Wade is correct, if blacks fail because their genes are not adapted to modern life, then the ethic cleansing of whites that must come after the failure of reparations will be illogical.
The only way to avoid the coming ethnic cleansing of whites is to accept the "racist" theories of Nicholas Wade. Maybe if we accepted Wade's theories we could enact some kind of eugenics program to bring black genes into the 21st century.
Kansas schools were not segregated in 1954. Blacks and whites went to the same schools (for the most part), but classrooms were segregated. If blacks and white going to the same schools is a goal it was already achieved 60 years ago.
ReplyDelete""""""Ta-Nehisi Coates' upcoming ATLANTIC piece. TNC, apparently, has decided that the only solution to the Black dilemma is reparations. """"
ReplyDeleteIf its reparations for slavery then I doubt Obama will sign it since both the black and white sides of his family were slave owners not slaves. Obama does not like giving money to his black relatives, I don’t think he will want to give money to blacks he does not even know.
I might support reparations, I think I can trace my ancestors back to some white slaves.
Rich white liberals decry the lack of diversity in *your* kids' schools, but they make sure their kids go to majority white schools. Don't you know that their rules, regulations and pronouncements are for you and me, not for them. If they had any thought that they might have to live by the rules they make for us, they wouldn't make most of them.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what Mr. Coates proposes on reparations. If Noticing is permitted, one can remark that the policy presents challenges to the Who?Whom? alliance.
ReplyDeleteReparations are typically sold to the white-guilt underwriters as redressing the evils of slavery and institutional racism.
After sixty years of immigration law reforms and mass illegal immigration, a large fraction of NAMs have no personal family connection with slavery, or Jim Crow. This is particularly true in the ranks of the elite, such as AG Eric Holder.
As Steve has written, the Democratic/Left coalition is a Big Tent, where everybody's grievances against traditional, conservative (etc.) white men are valid.
Reparations as a selective payoff to descendants of slaves would divide this coalition. Which classes of members in the grievance coalition doesn't get to share in the fun? (Do Holder's kids qualify?) Does the Federal government construct an elaborate scheme to award pro rata benefits, based on NPR-style stories of suffering and victimhood? The lawyers will of course demand their cut, otherwise known as the right to appeal.
It might be better simply to award the voucher for a million dollars to every Democratic voter. Even the white ones have endured microaggressions. As with subsidized health insurance, those who didn't get around to voting can state that they tried to do so. That'd suffice.
"Haven't we reached the point of no return? Does anyone here actually believe that America can be saved? " - It could still be saved, but that is just not going to happen. Demographics would stabilize if immigration were ended, affordable family formation for actual Americans is possible, jobs can be brought back and wages can rise.
ReplyDelete"... she constantly felt like people were judging as not smart enough to be there without her affirmative action privileges."
ReplyDeleteYears ago, on my way to work, I was passed by a black woman driving a Mercedes with the license plate QUALFYD. Says it all, doesn't it?
Funny, her kids go to Sidwell. Yup, the Obamas are making that sacrifice to make sure Sidwell is integrated. Very noble of them.
ReplyDeleteObama has talked about his college grades -- B+ at Oxy, A-minus at Columbia. I'd believe those, provisionally, since neither is good enough to be worth making up (nor good enough for anyone not black to move up from Oxy to Columbia or from Columbia to Harvard Law). But he hasn't talked about his SAT scores, and while I like the Michelle's-feelings concept, I think the more likely explanation is that he simply could not afford to have it known that Bush's scores were higher than his -- and if his were better, he'd have been loudly proclaiming the fact. So they weren't.
ReplyDeleteOne thing he isn't smart enough to notice is that all the academics who prate about how smart he is really mean "He's really smart for a black guy" though they don't say so, and may not even be conscious that they are race-norming their perceptions of "smart."
for now, europeans still have the freedom to move away from the other groups.
ReplyDeletethat won't last forever. in 20 years or so, that will start to end, either because there is no place left to run away to, or because the laws are changed nationwide to make it illegal to run away.
smarmy liberal europeans won't be able to take social sniper shots at conservative europeans anymore once that happens. diversity is coming for the northeast.
"Why not just concede everything to liberals and when everything goes to hell we can say"
ReplyDeletebecause this will end up with europeans being eliminated.
believe me, many people have thrown up their hands and simply said, let's just concede every point to liberals. let them win every policy battle, set every law, control every budget, and when it all turns to shit in 15 years, then we'll have taught them something.
except, they won't have learned anything, our society will have been ruined to the point where it is irretrievably lost, and then, they'll just keep moving even further forward, to the inevitable elimination of europeans. anybody who thinks the 'just let liberals win every argument, then check back in 15 years' approach is a good one, please see california for how that turns out. have politicians in california learned anything?
modern liberals are not simply political opponents with different ideas about a couple topics in civics and law. they are the biological enemies of european peoples, period. their ideology leads down one path to one eventual result. this is why some moderate form of white nationalism is the only possible way forward. any other approach concedes the eventual elimination of european peoples from this planet, regardless of whether it happens fast, the way the neocons and rhinos want, or staves off the liberals for a while, making it happen more slowly, the way the paleocons would go.
""""""""I don’t think he will want to give money to blacks he does not even know."""""""""""""""
ReplyDeleteHe just did. He gave multi billions to prop up Historically Black Colleges and a couple months ago he signed 'My Brothers Keeper', about a 500 billion federal jobs program for African-Americans.
Oh, did you mean to say that he doesn't like giving his own money to unknown blacks? Because he sure loves giving US's money without any qualms whatsoever to these same folks.

Mrs. O, which public school district in DC area are Sasha and Malia attending? I haven't been able to find that exact information?
Oh, they're attending a majority white, hoity toity private school?
How's that working out for yours. Pretty good, huh?
And by the way, when you and your husband, Mr. O, go on these fairly lengthy taxpayer vacations to Hawaii, how many black people do you hang with? Besides Oprah.
Because, HI's total black population is around 2%, so do you invite them all over to your pad when you're there to show them some nice Aloha hospitality?
OH, and when Mr. O's second term is concluded and you're, you know, in retirement or Post-Personal Power era, are you both going to reside in downtown Baltimore (ca. 85% black) or Atlanta? Or Cleveland? Or Detroit, which is basically now run by blacks?
Oh, you're not? In fact you tend to live in a pretty swanky majority white area in Chitown era? Is that right?
So you're doing pretty well, post Brown v Ed, huh?
Guess you're right though. There is tons of work left to be done.
Have a good time on the lanai next time you're in the lulu.
ALOHA!
Michelle in '16? Hillary without the IQ, Barry without the charm and political skills. No one but the white-guilt elite wants someone that hostile and mediocre in the White House.
ReplyDeleteJulian? Dumb and dull as a fence post. Bragged about everything being given to him by affirmative action.
Ta-nesi? His highest and best career should be cab driver. AA all the way.
ReplyDeleteStix provides a link to a good critique of 'Brown'.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that the expression "dollars to doughnuts" was more effective when doughnuts cost less than a dollar.
ReplyDeleteYes, today it would make more sense to bet doughnuts to dollars. It's as obsolete as "a dime a dozen" -- what can you buy 12 for 10 cents these days? That's my two cents worth -- an obsolete idiom in Canada, Australia and New Zealand because all those countries have eliminated the penny. They now have to round it up to $.05.
"the only solution to the Black dilemma is reparations": could they afford them?

Well, the dictator of Paraguay, Francia, made the white upper class intermarry with mestizos so that they would be bred out of existence.
During the radio broadcast of Saturday's Giants game, the trivia question was who was the first player to 3,000 hits. The answer, according to Gen-X broadcaster Dave Fleming, is "Cap Anson, who was known as a violent racist."
ReplyDeleteNow Coates wants us to try reparations -- that won't work either.
ReplyDeleteI think Dave Chappelle already established that it won't work.
"Cap Anson, who was known as a violent racist."
ReplyDeleteAnd another violent racist, Ty Cobb, was the first player to get 4,000 hits.
BTW, the Ty Cobb story would make a really great movie, full of exciting violence. On August 2, 1911, three guys tried to rob him. He beat them all up, even after one stabbed him in the back, leaving a six-inch wound. When they took to their heels he gave chase. Ty, a notably fast runner, "left one in a sorry state" and beat the other to death. He had his wound bandaged and played ball the next day, making two base hits in four turns at bat.

I liked Ron Shelton's "Cobb" a lot, but few others did, so your mileage may vary.

ReplyDeleteNever mind.
TNC just posts his stories for his White fan boys in the media. It so humorous following folks like Ezra Klein on Twitter who breathlessly tweet how TNC's latest is a must read.
ReplyDeleteI was glad when Jonathan Chait took him to task. One of Obamas favorite writers speaking out against the "great" TNC. TNC is a lightweight intellectually I've seen John McWhorter eviscerate him in a debate on Bloggingheads. He heavily moderates his comment section where he and his deputized fans delete & block anyone that disagrees with his weak premises.
His reparation article will be hailed as some great piece but won't amount to much. The Democrats know the quickest way to lose the Midwest/NE is pushing this nonsense and school desegregation.
Michelle in 2016 against Kirk?
ReplyDeleteAnyone but Picard!
I bet "dollars to doughnuts" that the FLOTUS has better grades and test scores than the vast majority of crybaby White male posters here.
ReplyDeleteAs for the President, I personally know someone who went to school with him at Oxy, who said the President was "brilliant." Secondly, he was elected President of the Harvard Review. Even if the Review wanted to make history by electing the first Black, there is no way they would do it with any Black person who was less than stellar.
It's always amusing to see White lessers cry about their Black/Latino/ Asian superiors.
School integration seems to be a wave of the past. It was undertaken by an America in the 1950s when we were dominant in the world.
ReplyDeleteAll our enemies were defeated and prostrate - most of our allies too. We stood alone. We were full of beans.
But America is now quite clearly in serious decline. We don't know how much and won't until we have a Republican successor to Obama.
Perhaps a common sense Republican national administration can turn things around or maybe not. We'll have to wait and see but even were Ronald Reagan arise from his grave, America will never be the same as it was in the fifties.
In the fifties we imagined that we could fashion black people into smart and decent citizens. This is comparable to the Soviet illusion that they could make a new man - the 'Homo Sovieticus'.
The USSR crashed and it looks like we are about to follow.
Some of the ideologues in the Obama administration still think that education will equalize the races. But the majority of the electorate has lost faith. When things stay tough with the economy and jobs remain scarce the problem of school integration won't seem so important.
You don't have to actually affirmatively have to argue for re-segregation. The races spontaneously segregate themselves. All you have to do is not have the Justice Department and the judiciary undertake radical measures. For most school districts and most white families sending your kids to private schools works well enough. You don't really have to start a political movement or make fiery speeches.
Currently the interests of the teacher's unions coincide with the interests of those who want white kids to be put in integrated classrooms. That needn't last. It could change overnight.
The rank and file teachers don't really want to be consigned to ghetto school hell holes. They would like to teach in clean well order classrooms filled with white and Asian kids who want to learn. If someone could find a way for public school teachers to be paid for teaching in private schools then school integration would quickly crumble.
Not everything that happens in a declining country is for the worse. We will have the opportunity to rethink our unwise social policies from a time when we thought we could just buy our way out of all problems.
Pat Boyle
Michelle and Barry went to elite schools. As "Integrationists", they sent their daughters to elite white schools (Sidwell Friends).
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, President Jimmy Carter, also an "Integrationist", had to send his daughter to the not-so-elite DC public schools, IIRC.
This points to the fascinating and paradoxical relationship between "Segregation" and "Integration".
When a member of the hi-yalla Talented Tenth gets their kids out of the ghetto and away from the gangbangers and impregnators it is called "Integration" and it is Good (tm).
When a white parent does exactly the same thing for exactly the same reason it is called "Segregation" and it is Bad (tm).
Mr. Brown of Brown v. Board of Education jumped ship and ran off to live with the white folks in a white neighborhood so his daughter/s could have white friends (which they did, according to the pleadings). and go to a white school (which they did not, as it turned out). White folks trying to escape black dysfunction in Topeka at the very same time, on the other hand, would be a Evil "Segregationists".
Which goes to show the magic of "Integration" and "Segregation": they bootstrap wealthy black folks out of the ghetto and condemn white folks to stay there.
Reparations as a selective payoff to descendants of slaves would divide this coalition. Which classes of members in the grievance coalition doesn't get to share in the fun? (Do Holder's kids qualify?)
ReplyDeleteI told a hi-yalla brother that I was not inclined to pay reparations to direct descendants [like him] of slave mongers and overseers.
I told him he seemed to have "Daddy Issues" about the share of wealth that his white great-great-grandpappy gave his side of the family and maybe he needed professional help.
I told him I was no more inclined to give him money for his "suffering" than I was to pay reparations to Adolf Hitler's grand kids for their (equally undeserved) suffering.
"America is just one announcement away from being even more of a joke than Argentina."
ReplyDeleteThe joke is on you, Whiskey. More Americans decidedly have faith in their country in spite of your pronouncements.

Wow, you - an anonymous internet commenter - will bet (i.e., you will not really bet) imaginary money with other anonymous internet commenters. Yes, you certainly have the strength of your convictions. I will not bet that you are wrong, but I will just flat out state it.
You are wrong. Michelle Obama is a mediocrity, not nearly as smart or accomplished as many of the people who post here.
"As for the President, I personally know someone who went to school with him at Oxy, who said the President was "brilliant." Secondly, he was elected President of the Harvard Review. Even if the Review wanted to make history by electing the first Black, there is no way they would do it with any Black person who was less than stellar."
What are the chances that the person you personally knew was not very bright, and therefore a poor judge of what constitutes "brilliant"? Did they think that you were brilliant too? Obama is also a mediocrity. He has accomplished nothing in life, save to win a national popularity contest that elevated him to the position of chief-stooge of the permanent hostile elite. His accomplishment is no more noteworthy than that of someone who wins American Idol. Less so, in many ways.
Ah, Golden Bore, no. Did you read Mooch's Princeton senior thesis? She made Ted Kennedy sound like Christopher Marlowe.
