New York always had the finance. La was a defense contracter town. New York was fortunate it was not next to Puerto Rico while La was unfortunately being next to Mexico. I kind of doubt that Conservatives who think Texas is real great will be up there in 20 years either. Houston is already getting more foreign born to others coming from other counties in Texas. Austin is geeky but doesn't have the style to overtake Silcon Valley in the tech field. In fact the Fracking boom is taking place in Mexico/White towns like Odessa and Midland which means a lot of blue collar Mexicans will be out like whites were in La when the defense industry went out. there is such a thing as an oil gut or liberals find a way to make alternative energey and electric cars cheaper.
Another thing is Republicans are having a fit over what might get a lot of illegals to leave which is to hike the minimum wage at 13 per hr. In fact as we discuss before it might not effect the native born employment and not effect the price of fast food as much as Republicans think but even getting a Tea Party person to be reasonable about it. Texas has a lot more illegal immigrants than the state of Washington not the reverse is difficult. Granted, some illegal immigrants make 13 and above but in a state like California they make up a lot of folks employed in jobs under 13 an hour more so than the native born.
Well, as you mention before political conservatism might have killed LA. LA didn't have the restrictions on building like the Bay Area so rent was inexpensive for illegal immigrants until the mid 1990's. Lots of conservatives didn't like the business restrictions along with their more libertarian brethren hire a lot of Hispanics in-the underground garment industry and La was the capital of that by the 1990's. Also while prop 13 was good that it capped property tax it shifted California over to greater income tax and also California's colleges which were cheap and almost free in the 1970's became very expensive today. East Coast people use to come to California because the colleges were free. Conservatism in New York under Rudy was different it was aimed at getting the crime down which lead to the gentrification of New York earlier than La.
Another thing population growth if La didn't come as Hispanic its population might be 2 million less today since whites have less kids than Hispanics and are older on average plus lots of people left during the 1990's. If New York keep the same demographics more white and black than today it too would have a lower population.
Yeah, four of the six articles on the "most popular" list are by this new guy Steve Sailer.
Unfortunately, your comments are suddenly very few. Maybe it would have made more sense for you to give Unz a little real estate on *your* blog, rather than the other way around.
Yeah, what's the plan here with the Unz website? Will that be the primary place for your posts, while blogspot remains as an archive/backup plan in case Unz goes caput? Or will there be some differentiation between the two?
Can't say I'm thrilled about the change but the dearth of comments at the new site sucks. The comments are one of the best things, if not the best thing, about this site.

That's what's not quite clear, is the status of the blog here. A couple have asked before, like, what's going to happen to this site? It was such a good run.
Personally, I think that this risks a New vs. Classic iSteve/Coke debacle if the comments don't rapidly recover. Like many, I believe the combination of content/comments are the unique magic of iSteve (not to say the content isn't compelling, but the synergy is pretty unique).
