Watching "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is like listening to a Barack Obama speech. It's obviously something of a higher quality than the norm, and it induces a not-unpleasant trance-like state as it goes on and on, but it's hard to remember what the point was.

Have not seen the film but suspect he point is more baby boomer delusion about "growing young" or some such bullshit. The idea of it as its been described to mes sounds faintly repellant. Born old? Dying as an infant? Sort of sick and really taboo in the true sense of the word. Offensive to God and man and totally impossible.

ReplyDeleteUnlike the other people who left comments, I did see the movie and really liked it. Yes, the whole thing require one to suspend any sense of reality but it was better than 95% of the other crap that Hollywood puts out.

Button had some nice period scenery if you're into that. Not much else, and it was long. Steve's description hits it on the head.
ReplyDeleteThe only memorable scene was where the little tug cracked the Japanese sub that had murdered all those Americans. Atmospheric and makes you feel something.
Other than that, I kept waiting for Brad Pitt to say "Life is like a box of chocolates..."
I agree with Fluff. I felt like I was sitting in a rip-off of Forrest Gump. With a horrible actor in the role of Forrest Gump.

LOL. True. Apparently when they want to make a "serious" movie, Hollywood machers turn to the Chosen People's struggles.
What I wouldn't give to see some bimbo actress start her Academy Award acceptance speech with "First of all, I'd like to thank Adolf Hitler for making our movie possible..."
