Here's an excerpt from my new VDARE.com column on electoral trends in what ought to be the citadel of the Obama Coalition:
Fifty two weeks ago, I pointed out that the Democrats’ winning 2008 strategy–positioning Barack Obama to blacks as the black candidate, to Asians and Hispanics as the minority candidate, and to whites as the postracial candidate–did not make for a long-term stable political strategy. To quote me: "A black-led four-race coalition is an inherently fragile thing." [Sailer Strategy Supplement: Rebrand Democrats As The Black Party, October 04, 2009]
Now I have to congratulate me. Subsequent electoral events in the heart of the political universe–the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia–are demonstrating the fault lines in the 2008 Obama Coalition.
... The central complaint of young white liberals living in Washington D.C. became D.C.’s schools, which were not only full of black students, but were administered by black bureaucrats for the benefit of black bureaucrats. D.C. whites compared the local black-run public school system to Chicago and New York, where Mayors Richie Daley and Michael Bloomberg had seized control of the schools and installed dynamic white administrators, Paul Vallas and Joel Klein, respectively, to shake up the systems. Publicly, nobody ever put it in terms quite that blunt—everybody hand-waved about "bad schools"—but it was hard for Washington D.C. whites (even though they voted 86-12 for Obama in 2008) to avoid thinking that way.
Let’s do the math. Say you are typical nice white engaged couple in D.C., one with a federal job, the other with a media job. You wouldn’t dream of sending your future kids to a mostly black school after puberty, but you think that public education ought to get them through K-5. If D.C., however, can’t provide even decent public elementary schools, though, that comes right out of your net worth. Now, Sidwell Friends, where the Obamas send their children, costs $31,000 per year. But, say, you could find a low end private school charging only $12,000 annually. Well, six years times two children times $12,000 equals $144,000.
Ouch.
Yet if D.C. public elementary schools improved enough so that lots of other nice white people like you become willing to send their kids to them, not only would you save $144,000 in private school tuition, but your property would appreciate in value–because now your condo comes with "good schools!"
Not surprisingly, the national press was excited in 2007 when new D.C. mayor Adrian Fenty, a yuppie black, appointed as school chancellor the energetic and ambitious Korean-American Michelle Rhee. (She’s the heroine of the current much-lauded documentary Waiting for "Superman.") If Rhee could actually clean out the Augean Stables of the D.C. schools, she could literally provide many in the national press with a financial windfall. So when she fired a large number of teachers for underperforming (many of the teachers black), the white press was ecstatic.
Black voters were not, however. According to Paul Schwarzman and Chris L. Jenkins of the Washington Post in How D.C. Mayor Fenty lost the black vote - and his job [September 18, 2010]:"...blacks also see the school system as a primary employer, providing jobs to thousands of teachers, school bus drivers, administrators and secretaries. When Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee laid off hundreds of teachers, many blacks saw … an assault on economic opportunity."
So in the 2010 Democratic primary, Fenty was defeated by veteran black city councilman Vince Gray 54-44:"Fenty won 53 of the city's majority-white census tracts but only 10 of those that are predominantly black. Gray, in contrast, captured 108 majority-black census tracts and just five that are majority-white…"
The Washington Post asked its readers on September 16: "Should she stay or should she go?" A commenter calling himself kentonsmith vividly expressed the black community’s attitude:"Rhee got her overrated fame. Now...scam!!! Scat!!! …
"She's a consultant, folks. Nothing more....she just happens to be Asian; something we haven't seen before, and folks think that means she has created the "Suzuki Method" or something. It's amazing how much credit a person can get for firing Black professionals. I mean...the chick fires Black folks and ends up on the cover of TIME magazine as courageous?"
Read the whole thing there and comment upon it here.
Something I try to do is to mentally put myself in other people's shoes, to think about what are the specific economic and emotional incentives facing other people. When you do that, you see that, for example, this deep, angry split in Washington D.C. between white liberals and local blacks is quite rational on both sides. It's perfectly understandable for white liberals in D.C. to expect at least K-5 public schools to be good enough for their children. And it's perfectly understandable for blacks, especially in a city with perhaps the biggest IQ gap in the country between whites / Asians and blacks (whites and Asians in D.C. are absurdly well educated), to despise a Korean lady whose plans are, in effect, to fire a lot of black workers and replace them with whites and Asians being paid twice as much.
Of course, to understand other people, you have to bear in mind various verboten hatestats, so my efforts to be broadly empathetic have made me broadly hated.
I don't like your use of the phrase "$12,000 low end private school", Steve. To keep him out of the London state school system and its Somali gangs, we're looking at having to send our only child to exactly such a place when he turns 4 next year... *ouch*
ReplyDeleteYou accused someone, yet again, of being a 'race man,' I had to chuckle a bit there---a 'race man' is precisely what YOU are.
ReplyDeleteit's called: Projection
Steve, I feel pity towards the plight of blacks and Hispanics. I think it's very sad that a group has to be cursed with innate cognitive deficiencies. On the other hand, I almost detect contempt coming from you. Shame on you Steve Sailer.
ReplyDeleteSome empathy you have! especially since you support firing negro teachers left and right!
ReplyDeleteOooooh edgy
ReplyDeletesix years times two children times $12,000 equals $144,000.
ReplyDeleteSeven years if you count Montessori. And what about 6th-12th grades?
Steve, this is specious anyway. Washington is only 61 square miles. Right across the river in VA and across the MD line to the west are fine schools. They range from "uncomfortable-but-passable" (uncomfortable due to preponderances of post-1965ers), to supermajority-white suburban schools.
The white rational actor would move to those places for their children's sake, as they have for 50 years now. The white resurgence in Washington of the past decade seems to be totally SWPL-yuppies, not families.
Sharon Angle has been blasting Reid on television for his support of amnesty, since he reintroduced the Dream Act about 2 weeks ago. She's now up 3 points today.
ReplyDeleteAre we seeing Angle go deep with whites, actually appealing to their interests (not having to compete against illegals for scare jobs, and sending one's kids to "mexican" schools), that the Sailer strategy is actually working?
Will the patriots be rewarded with tougher border measures? Surely, the results and ads from Nevada don't go unnoticed to the political class.
I'm surprised Steve didn't mention this (he has before): the city of Washington's public schools spend the highest per-pupil, by far, in the USA.
ReplyDelete-- $17,500 is what Washington DC spent per pupil in '05-'06. When comparing this to the other "states", it's the top of the list. [This may be unfair: DC may have to spend more because it is 100%-urban].
-- $9,500 per-pupil was the USA's average.
-- $5,800 is the figure for Utah, the bottom of the list, #51 of 51. Half of Utah students took the SAT that year, and got 560s on both sections. This beats even the white national average [530s]. Conclusive proof that school funding (past a certain point) is of little importance to learning!
"The white resurgence in Washington of the past decade seems to be totally SWPL-yuppies, not families."
ReplyDeleteSure, but the final real estate investment payoff from gentrification is when the neighborhood where you used to drink with your fresh-out-of-college friends gentrifies so far that people stay even after they marry and even when their kids are ready for school: think Lincoln Park in Chicago, Park Slope in Brooklyn, Silver Lake in LA, and so forth.
The proliferation of bureaucrat jobs in education over the last 20 yrs. (along with law enforcment) has to account for the lion's share of the black middle class in every urban area. This will never be reversed. If nothing else, the Mercedes dealers would riot.
ReplyDeleteGood analysis from 3,000 miles away. And now the $64,000 question is, does this mean the SWPLers flee to Montgomery and Fairfax county or stay and fight back? Might be a good time to start a $12,000 private school in DC.
ReplyDeleteDCPS does need to get cleaned out and some teachers need to get fired. But Rhee is a publicity hound who spent only two years in the classroom and made little or no effort to really reach out to the black community. If she'd kept her head down, not spent so much effort hanging out with Oprah and Michelle Obama trying to become a national celebrity ('superman' indeed), and worked hard within the district on building a coalition for needed change, she would have been way better off and could have ridden DC's gentrification to success.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant essay, Steve. You really deserve a newspaper column, as you're better on demographic and political issues especially than anyone writing in the MSM. You should see if any of your readers can put you in touch with someone at Investor's Business Daily. That paper's based in L.A. and it's far enough to the right politically that they just might take a leap on making you a columnist. Worth a try at least.
ReplyDeleteWait, so Rhee's "nice white lady" approach didn't work?!?!
ReplyDeleteWhat?!!?
I think this whole post it totally simplistic and for the following reasons:
ReplyDelete1. Does anyone here really think public education works pretty much anywhere in this country? If so, I have a bridge to sell you. Public education has so many conflicting state and federal mandates and is so full of contradictory rules and assumptions as to be almost schizophreniac in application; its amazing anyone learns anything at all.
2. Of course in addition to the above some areas have it worse being areas without parental involvement, with gang presence in the schools, and with an unmotivated student population who come in believing they will get no where. Only in THIS respect are any of the suburban schools you tout so much any better; surprisingly teacher quality has little to do with it.
3. Which is why coming in and firing, en-masse teachers looks more like a political stunt than any kind of wise policy. Undoubtedly the teachers unions have to eventually be tamed, but that will go hand in hand with giving teachers more power in their classrooms as to how they teach the curricula, and actually putting some discipline back into DC public schools. Absent these steps, I don't think much was going to change. I remember when it was REQUIRED in Maryland to teach reading with the "whole language" methodology despite phonics being a better teaching method. Yet if not for the teachers unions, I'm sure some stupid ass official would have tried to fire the teachers rather than take the blame for how they were requiring the teachers to actually teach. You want teachers to have responsibility? Give them power.
4. I think at least part of the problem in DC was a lack of communication. There might have been a good reason for firing those teachers; but unless you can make that case to the parents -most of whom I bet care more about their kids education than whether some teacher keeps his or her job- it will quickly turn into an educational war. It didn't help that in this case high-handedness by someone of another race enflamed those tensions needlessly.
5. Poor and mostly black children behaving terribly in school is largely a problem of the past 40 to 50 years, ever since "Professional Educators" started using schools as their personal testing grounds for their theories of human behavior. It didn't help that our society chose to attack families via not only welfare policies but also globalization and unilateral divorce. People are getting their socialization cues as kids in a flawed school system and it is creating very dysfunctional adults.
Clarence
The recent mayoral election was a setback, but I predict DC will have a highly educated white majority in 15 years. Time to buy a place in Petworth or Waterfront.
ReplyDeleteA crackup but nothing new. This has been going on since the 1960s but maintaining the alliance. In the end, it'll be about self-interest, and blacks and Hispanics will see more to gain from Dems than from Repubs. Asians, I don't know, but their power won't amount to much culturally or electorally.
ReplyDeleteAs for white liberals, their values and beliefs are less a matter of ideology than spirituality. So, even if DC whites are angry with blacks having chosen the blacker guy, they will remain on the liberal path because it would be SINFUL not to do so. Oh... Martin Luther King the holy one. Oh.... Oprah, the earth soul mother. Oh... Obama the one, the messiah. Liberalism is essentially emotional than rational. Indeed, it is even spiritual. Even if white liberals lose faith in Obama, they'll seek another magic negro--and come to think of it, GOP does much the same.
The idea of racial differences--at least those that reflect negatively on blacks--is just anathema to liberals. Liberals are truthophobes when it comes to race cuz racial equality isn't just ideological but spiritual. For a white liberal to even entertain agreeing with Steve Sailer would mean he's not just misguided but EVIL. White liberals were emotionally raised this way through all those PBS shows where blacks are such holy saintly victims, though public education where Harriet Tubman is now bigger than Edison, through sports where blacks are the heroes of the nation and hometown, and etc.
White liberals may not like many blacks in real life, but they worship the symbolic and cultural iconic image and meaning of blackness. It is their religion. There used to be cynical Irish and ethnic groups who once allied with blacks for purely political reasons--the old Daley--, but their children went to colleges and soaked up all the liberal pieties about Negro Nobility, etc.
Education and culture since the 60s have become very 'progressive' and politically correct. Old Irish Democrats may have had few illusions about blacks, but their privileged children who grew up glued to TV and went to schools taught by pc professors have been turned onto the religion of the Holy Negro.
A paradox here. Those who fled from black crime end up loving blacks more since their experience of blacks largely comes through TV, sports, education, and few decent kindly middle class blacks who make it into white neighborhoods.
I think Jews--the powerful ones anyway--today are the only people who really see the BS for what it is. Most of us see the cultural and spiritual Oz-show, whereas Jews are the wizard behind the Oz-show. They pull the levers and push the buttons that control and shape how we think and feel. It's like those making movies are less dazzled by cinema that those seeing the movies. They know the real mechanics behind the magic.
And the movie of history teaches most kids--even conservative ones--to worship MLK and see blackness as inherently noble. Even if you see bad blacks in real life, you're never supposed to blame blacks but whatever--social injustice, poverty, hunger, rage, etc--that must be driving them nuts.
It's like Jews could never blame God. If God did 'bad stuff', it must have been because Jews or humans displeased Him. Since blackness has been deified by our PC culture, we must have faith in the Holy Negro. If blacks act less than holy, it must be OUR fault. We must repent. This is the liberal religion, and it's very difficult to let go of god.
Besides, even if white liberals flee to the suburbs because blacks drove them crazy, they'll find themselves in the safety to dream about the holy negro all over again. Liberals run from blacks to idealize the ideal black, and there she is, Oprah on TV.
"1. Does anyone here really think public education works pretty much anywhere in this country? If so, I have a bridge to sell you."
ReplyDeleteIt works fine in affluent, white majority, Asian minority districts.
Wanderer is right about couples with children moving to the suburbs. Thomas Jefferson High School in Fairfax County has been ranked as the best public school in the country several times in recent years. Admission is competitive; applicants take an exam in December and get two teacher recommendations. It won't surprise anyone on this blog that the student population is overwhelmingly white and Asian.
ReplyDeleteIf Sailer strategy is to work, the GOP must de-emphasize the issues that divide whites. We need less of something like the pro-life platform, which alienates many women and many educated whites. And no more stuff about creationism and all that junk. GOP and the Right need a movement to intellectually elevate many in the Christian Right. I mean faith in God is one thing but a literal reading of the Bible is retarded.
ReplyDeleteLook at Christine O'Donnell and Sarah Palin. What is the MAIN reason why many white independents--and even educated conservatives--cannot warm up to them. They are intellectual featherbrains who believe Earth is 6000 yrs old!!!
GOP is partly to blame for this. For a long time, it was the party of the rich. Since there were never enough rich folks to win elections, the rich pandered to 'social values' issues such as God, country, and guns, etc. Since the rich wanted docile mass support whose emotions could be easily manipulated to the voting booths, they gave support to some of the dumbest elements on the Christian Right. The result over the yrs? Cultural and intellectual stupidity on the right that is truly mindboggling. Consider the dummies on the Christian Right that can be so easily swayed into foreign wars by neocons by the simple invocation of God, American flag, 'freedom', etc.
The rich succeeded with this silent dumb majority strategy for awhile, but then guess what happened? The children of the rich went to colleges that were totally taken over by leftist professors. They grew up to pop culture dominated by the left. In other words, even the rich became very liberal. And since the rich made more money in the past 30 yrs than ever imaginable in history, they became less concerned about protecting their wealth from the gubment and the rabble than in using it to win the love of humanity.
If the GOP is gonna be the party of Middle America, we need to change--even if gradually and slowly--the cultural and intellectual awareness of the so-called Christian Right and white conservatives in general. (Glenn Beck.. headache!). As long as the GOP remains identified with Southern whites who believe in creationism and such nonsense, many whites will not join the GOP. They'll just see it as the greedy rich and dumb masses party.
Christine O'Donnell would have a chance in november if she isn't such a dingbat dodo. And people would have been over by Sarah Palin if she weren't such an ignoramous.
We can oppose idiocies like 'gay marriage' but we must do so on moral, rational, and biological grounds, not on biblical grounds.
the London state school system and its Somali gangs
ReplyDeleteChristian Somalis or Muslim Somalis?
[And if the answer is "both", then the follow-up question would be whether the two gangs are at war with one another...]
I recently spent a whole bunch of time among educational progressives, and whenever they talked about the importance of strict teacher qualifications, I asked them if they realized what that would do to minority teachers.
ReplyDeleteCheck out what happened to teacher enrollment at the Cal States from 2002 (when the stricter test requirements kicked in) on, particularly the CSU campuses that produced minority teachers (Northridge, Dominguez Hills).
Education is an industry that provides middle class money to many black families. That's a gravy train that they feel shouldn't be curtailed or interfered with. They don't actually value education for itself but only as a source of income, that's the reason it's there. Firing blacks to supposedly "improve" education is an unassimilable contradiction for them. Anyway, does anyone really believe this Rhee character would actually ever accomplish anything?
ReplyDeletealonzo portfolio: The proliferation of bureaucrat jobs in education over the last 20 yrs. (along with law enforcment) has to account for the lion's share of the black middle class in every urban area.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 1980s [or early 1990s?], during the Heathcliff Huxtable boom, I read an article somewhere [Commentary? TAS? NR?], which made the point that some huge percentage [60%? 70%? 80%?] of all employed blacks were employed by one form of government or another [local, state, federal, USPS, DOD, etc etc etc].
Does anyone remember that article?
Also, does anyone know what the current figures look like?
Thanks.
Might be a good time to start a $12,000 private school in DC.
ReplyDeleteLike Albertosaurus, I once goofed around in the computer software teaching bidness [which was quite lucrative, back in the day, before the tech bubble burst], and I used to toy with the idea of starting a set of private "after-school" or weekend classes to teach calculus and linear algebra and the C-languages and algorithm theory to the exceptional students [with parents who were willing to foot the bills].
Maybe I need to start thinking about that idea again.
Although now that I am getting ready to home-school my own children, the idea of education-for-profit seems increasingly bizarre...
Hey Fred, we missed you on the Stewart -v- Sanchez thread.
ReplyDeleteUnless maybe you were Anon.
"Check out what happened to teacher enrollment at the Cal States from 2002 (when the stricter test requirements kicked in) on, particularly the CSU campuses that produced minority teachers (Northridge, Dominguez Hills)."
ReplyDeleteAny links for this?
Maybe Fenty should have hired a black Michelle Rhee to fire all the bad black teachers.
ReplyDelete"I read an article somewhere [Commentary? TAS? NR?], which made the point that some huge percentage [60%? 70%? 80%?] of all employed blacks were employed by one form of government or another."

pretty much. the democrats are a collection of groups who have nothing in common, and who don't like each other. they are unified by one thing: they all hate euro american men.
ReplyDeleteyou'll notice that the american english definition of diversity is "the total absence of white males." any organization can be comprised 100% of a single demographic group, as long as it's not european men, and the organization is considered perfectly diverse.
the institute for diversity and ethics in sport, at the university of central florida, is a typical example. run by richard lapchick, who is probably jewish, this "institute" routinely awards the NBA a grade of "A" for diversity in hiring. there's not a person in world who can't see that the NBA is one of the least diverse businesses in the US, but that's certainly not the point. the removal of european men is the point. the "institute" has decided that the NFL should also be awarded an "A" for diversity in hiring in 2010.
the NFL only hires africans. all of it's legal language is positively full of shit whenever it refers to "minorities" - the NFL is fully in the middle of a transition to african control. a segment of the black american population clearly believes that all those jobs are "theirs". from the field on up to the GM. like the case of michelle rhee in washington DC, they aren't interested in "the best person for the job". what they are interested in is a monopoly on the jobs.
my detractors on the thread about prestige of universities think i have some east asian obsession, but i'll tell you what: my detractors never try to argue that there is not a single east asian man who can outhink the moron who the san francisco 49ers just fired as offensive coordinator. this is what the NFL tells us, though. the NFL tells us that in san francisco, a city packed with smart east asians, a barely literate black american can outscheme and outplan every last one of them.
heck, under the american english definition of diversity, hugh hefner's selection in women is considered diverse.
Steve--check email.
ReplyDeleteHere's the main link to the credential program by campus. Most of the decline is in multiple subjects, not single subject, but they're both pretty noticeable.
Northridge
2002--1500
2010-- 873
Dominguez Hills
2002--1587
2010--173
and so on.
It's so huge I can't believe it's not been reported. I've looked for some other cause. If you find something I've missed, let me know.
Here's the only link I could ever find that acknowledged the decline, and it's pretty old:

"Hey Fred, we missed you on the Stewart -v- Sanchez thread.
ReplyDeleteUnless maybe you were Anon."
Nope, wasn't an anon. That's touching that you missed me though. If you want my take on it, in brief:
1) Nothing Sanchez said in that interview warranted him getting canned.
2) That interview may have just been a pretext for the network to can him for other reasons (e.g., being lame).
I don't watch CNN or Jon Stewart, but I did see Jon Stewart's bit about this on the Internet yesterday, and he sort of agreed with both of those two points.
@Jody
ReplyDeleteMaybe your detractors are calling you out because of your seemingly incoherent ranting. Just a thought.
"Cultural and intellectual stupidity on the right that is truly mindboggling."
ReplyDeleteFacts contradict you but whatever, your narrative is all that's important, sweet cheeks.
"I'm just a dispassionate analyst of statistics, martyred by the forces of PC...How about that dragon lady Michelle Rhee and the dumb blacks who hate her, huh?"
ReplyDeleteFunny how pseudoscientific racists (sorry, Race Realists) invariably seem to have believed such things before stumbling across these very convincing statistics.
But Steve, you misunderstand the nature of modern American politics.
ReplyDeleteBasically, the Democratic Party is a disparate rag-bag coalition that is unified by what it's defined agaimst (ie, basically it's blacks, hispanics and women amongst others unified against gentile white men who are the source of the wealth they want to appropriate). In this rag-bag caolition blacks play the part of the senior partners, the feudal aristocarcy if you will.Their word is law, they are venerated and they can do no wrong - and they are unabashedly capricious, selfish and quixotic with this privelege.
On the other hand the Republicans whilst impersonating the role of defenders of white maledom are actually the ferocious class enemy of the working stiff white man - they'll happily pit him against a low wage immigrant and export his job to china in a heart-beat to fatten their bloated share options, whilst mocking him for his pauperhood.
"Two cheeks of the same ass" indeed.
AP-GfK Poll: Working-class whites shun Dems
ReplyDeletehttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101006/ap_on_el_ge/us_ap_poll_working_class_whites
WASHINGTON – Desperate for jobs and cool toward President Barack Obama, working-class whites are flocking to Republicans, turning a group long wary of Democrats into an even bigger impediment to the party's drive to keep control of Congress.
An Associated Press-GfK poll shows whites without four-year college degrees preferring GOP candidates by twice the margin of the last two elections, when Democrats made significant gains in the House and Senate. The poll, conducted last month, found this group favoring GOP hopefuls 58 percent to 36 percent — a whopping 22 percentage-point gap.
In 2008, when Obama won the presidency, they favored GOP congressional candidates by 11 percentage points, according to exit polls of voters. When Democrats won the House and Senate in 2006, the Republican edge was 9 percentage points.
Dear Mr Sailer,
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of 'crack-ups'...
Social Security - Perpetual Deficits
I might've added a question mark.
The critical measures of cash flow have turned negative. This is the first time in twenty-seven years that this has happened. Looking at these graphs it would seem obvious that SS has turned a corner in 2010. There is ample evidence that this turn to the negative will not be reversed. 2010 was the first year of a very long and slippery slope.
So how do you think America's increasing Hispanic population will feel about being heavily taxed in order to pay the SS benefits for all of the retiring and vastly whiter 'boomers'? Assuming they can create anywhere near enough wealth. Are we doomed to an endless sequence of 'quantitative easing'? QE-1, QE-2, etc etc to 'pay' -- if you can call it that -- for these so-called 'entitlement' programs?
Stay tuned...
"Maybe your detractors are calling you out because of your seemingly incoherent ranting"
ReplyDeletelol. i'll smash them in an argument in which i have taken a clear position. i don't take positions which i haven't studied for a good long time and which i feel i know a decent amount about. about the best you can do is find out i've been wrong on a fact here or there, because i speak on too many subjects to know every last fact and detail of every field down to the nitty gritty. i know a good amount though, plenty to make a cogent argument backed up by numbers.
i don't always have time to write responses to posters on here, but sometimes i do. i certainly don't get any kind of reward out of bulldozing some guy who calls himself "anonymous". nobody pays me for this stuff nor can you make bets or have long running arguments with cowards who don't even give themselves a regular name even on a blog.
so why don't you give yourself a name, anonymous, and come at me bro. got something to say? got a dispute with an argument i've made? then man up, coward. otherwise just do like i told that other guy. don't like what jody posts? just skip over my posts. don't read them, don't respond, just f'ing do like you said you are gonna do and ignore me.
you're gonna end up like the oil industry guy who tried to tell me the world economy was going to collapse because all the oil engineers and companies were going to completely get out of producing oil altogether because it would just become oh too expensive to get that black glop out of the ground. i told him the truth, that the price of a barrel would stay at 70 for a while. which is exactly what happened. it actually stayed in the 70s for way longer than i thought it would. that guy sounded like he read matt simmons and james kunstler too much. matt simmons died a month ago, so we don't have to hear his crap anymore.

ReplyDeleteLook at this Elders of Zion bullshit--"pulling the levers"! You're a dumb Goy trying to make sense of a world beyond your comprehension.
See, every man is right in his own eyes. Jews think they have principles and are blind to the fact that their principles always happen to coincide with what they also think is good for them. In any case, there's a large wave of Jewish assimilation going on because of those that take liberalism seriously and those who are too smart and educated to take religion seriously. After it passes the leftovers should be dumber and more blindly ethnocentric. To digress a bit, genetic screening should also make Jews dumber by wiping out the genes that produce their heterozygote geniuses....
some other guy said, "Funny how pseudoscientific racists (sorry, Race Realists) invariably seem to have believed such things before stumbling across these very convincing statistics." A big chunk of HBD consists of disenchanted liberals. They tend to be more intellectually honest than the rest. Anyway, could you point to some research that validates the liberal point of view?
Eric Fischer's maps of US metro areas by race are pretty amazing.

Forgive the Greek allusions. I read five Victor Davis Hanson books this past summer.
ReplyDeleteMany are searching for a way to "fix the schools". One solution often put forward in movies and by pundits is the hero teacher. They say we just need more people like Jaime Escalante. One problem I have with the heroic teacher remedy is that it is unhistorical. There was indeed an Age of Heroes - but another is unlikely.
Originally men fought in loose groups. The battle formation was called the melee. They fought with farm implements and hunting tools The only specialized equipment they had for human conflict was a shield. Otherwise they used the spears and bows with which they hunted and the ax and flail with which they farmed. They had no tactics or battlefield leadership. The "Big Man" or tribal chief just ordered them forward.
Then came the Heroic Age. The main force grouping was still a mob and the main form of combat was still the melee, but now there were heroes too. A hero was a man of war who had two extra things - equipment and training.
A man like Achilles or Hector had a suit of armor, and a sword as well all the other equipment that regular forces had and they practiced. The story of Patroclus stealing Achilles' armor only makes sense is armor is rare (not like in the movie). Such a hero was worth five or ten ordinary fighters. One of the first tactical ploys was "send in the heroes".
The end of The Age of Heroes came when hoplites appeared in Greece. Hoplites all had equipment and all had a specific place on the battlefield. They were in a sense all heroes.
Heroes were warriors. Hoplites were soldiers. Soldiers always defeat warriors.
Real heroes require everyone else to be untrained and unequipped. Achilles as an individual was a decisive element on the battle field rather like a tank amidst infantry. He wasn't a hero just because he was exceptional. It was in fact his job description. In a poor world it made good battlefield sense to have few specialists with expensive equipment and training.
Today our so called failing schools all have trained teachers and all of them have equipment. There are not individuals exercising individual initiative among the untrained amateurs. All American teachers has some sort of education and some sort of textbook. They are hoplites.
Once the hoplites have arrived there is no place for heroes. Achilles would not have done well in a Spartan phalanx. There was room for individuality in twelfth century but not in the fifth.
So it is fatuous to look for heroic teachers. Heroes don't join teacher's unions and they choose their own text books and write their own lesson plans.
If you won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry you wouldn't be allowed to teach high school chemistry (no credential) and you wouldn't be allowed to use your own book as the text (not on the approved list). Education policy has long been to outlaw teacher heroism.
Being a hero is not so much about the hero as it is about everyone else. The others must be untrained and unequipped amateurs.
If there were such a thing as an inherent hero then he could be heroic in any walk of life. So why would such a person want to be a classroom teacher? Teaching is fun, easy clean work and not dangerous. It is not a role for someone who wants to make a contribution but rather for those looking to get ahead by getting along.
Teachers wanted - no heroes need apply.

ReplyDeleteBy their own 2002 numbers, blacks are hired at 614% of their affirmative action target at the EEOC, and at 473% at the DOE.
Jody, all you need to know about Lapchick is that his signature program at his original hustle, Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport In Society, was Project TEAMWORK, which was about VIOLENCE PREVENTION! I guess he missed all the guys mentioned in the book Pros and Cons!

Just a thought there, Jody. Of course that's more than you generally are able to conjure up.

ReplyDeleteFunny how pseudoscientific racists (sorry, Race Realists) invariably seem to have believed such things before stumbling across these very convincing statistics.
ReplyDeleteThere's the left-wing mindset in a nutshell.
We have the unshakable belief that leftists know, as an absolute truth, what other people "believe".
And we have the leftist belief that the only truth which matters is what's in a person heart - never mind those silly "statistics".
Combine the two together and you wind up with the core leftist proposition - that leftists are uniquely qualified to pass judgment on the moral worth of non-leftists.
It has the wonderful advantage, for leftists, of not being falsifiable. They're religious lunatics who jettisoned the religion and kept the lunacy.
This is a fantastic post. How come movies about 'skool' are always the idiotic Michelle Pfeiffer kind of crap? If life imitated art then we'd see Rhee get in da face of angry black males,(who would not in any way attack or sexually threaten her,'course!) and motivate them to become good in calculus, and perhaps the social studies teacher, who was a holocaust survivor would be happy and give up his cynicism etc etc.In reality, why should blacks be allowed to "own" the school system and live off of it,while failing miserably to create a decent product. And what would all these asshole white liberals with their gubmitt jobs think of something like the Boston anti-busing protests of the 70's? To the poster who talked about the "holy Negro"--what about the Righteous Asian? The whites embrace Rhee as a bit of a savior; Our Lady of the High Standards,("She's ASIAN! You dont hafta worry about THOSE people, nosiree!"No pun intended) she can go toe to toe with the blacks the way a white wouldnt dare. Or if a white woman DID dare(its unthinkable that a white man would do so)the whites would be leery of getting behind her TOO enthusiastically. The first time she's made fun of on Bill Maher, she'd be a dead duck! As for Blacks, dont they see an upside to changing their moribund schools into something decent? Remember when the DC police was a clown show? Isnt change good in the long run? Notice how Oprah is pro-Rhee,as she is not cocerned too much about the blue collar blacks who may be canned, but IS concerned about the children.(to some extent)

"Christian Somalis or Muslim Somalis?"
Muslim - Somalia is 100% Muslim - the nearest Christians are the Amhara in Ethiopia.
For some reason qat is legal in the UK, though illegal everywhere else in Europe. It helps make the Somalis crazy-violent, far worse than eg Afro-Caribbeans. My son is a tough little guy and can (and has) handle getting whacked in the face by Afro-Caribbean kids. The bruises heal in a day or two. But I don't want to risk him with the Somalis.
"Look at Christine O'Donnell and Sarah Palin. What is the MAIN reason why many white independents--and even educated conservatives--cannot warm up to them. They are intellectual featherbrains who believe Earth is 6000 yrs old!!!"
ReplyDeleteWho is the intellectual feather brain? The person who votes against his own interests because the media keeps highlighting the irrelevant religious beliefs, or the solid on your side politician that possesses the beliefs?
The commies are just playing conservatives with the religion crap. Plenty of libtards believe absolute bull$h*! too. Oh wait, that is the topic of this post. The idiot idea that all kids can learn.
Professional courtesy here, Sport; emphasizing a controversial point with "I read an article somewhere" falls outside of the generally excepted 'Rules of Chatboard Etiquette.'
ReplyDeleteNo it doesn't. It just doesn't pass first muster as fact until someone digs up the link.
Obama and the Dems won in 2008 because McCain was a terrible candidate and Bush Jr. was a terrible president. Sadly Obama and the Dems were the only alternative. Naturally, as bad as the Republican establishment is, the Dems unsurprisingly proved even worse.
ReplyDeleteSadly, the events of the last 10 years have done practically nothing to weaken the Republican establishment. California is now stuck with a choice between a terrible establishment Republican and another liberal Democrat (I am voting for Whitman, but with a clothespin on my nose).
It appears that America is pretty much screwed. The borders will stay open, spending will continue to go up faster than inflation, population, and the economy, and there will probably be more questionable wars like Iraq. The only "conservative" legislation likely to pass will be against pharmaceutical users and medical pot users.
Really the only hope is that America is as wealthy and powerful as the Pollyannas think.
"lol. i'll smash them in an argument in which i have taken a clear position. i don't take positions which i haven't studied for a good long time and which i feel i know a decent amount about"
ReplyDeleteYeah, kind of like:
1) a kicker should be playing running back in the NFL because he won one footrace.
2) any Asian off the stree in San Francisco would do a better job calling plays than a 33 year NFL coaching veteran.
3) Everyone hired by the NFL is black.
Yeah, I can see it there, Stephen A. Douglass.

Michelle Rhee was a school district superintendent, she works in an office building, why exactly would she be getting in "da face of angry black males" motivating them to be good in calculus again?
"It just doesn't pass first muster as fact until someone digs up the link."
That is pretty much what I wrote, Svig; USE THE FORCE, BRO!"
There may be a crack-up, but it isn't going to weaken Democratic control of D.C., is it? Or Montgomery County?

"Teaching is fun, easy clean work and not dangerous.
ReplyDeleteI love the 'Saurus, and always look forward to his comments, but this is too much. Allow me to re-tell the story of rookie teacher Alice White at SF's Lincoln High in the summer of '74. The class was psychology, and had about 10 blacks in it. She assigned Karl Menninger's "The Crime of Punishment," which argues that imprisonment is inherently inhumane, even for violent crimes. One might have thought this would have signaled a welcome benevolence for the 10 in question. Not at all. They ridiculed her efforts so mercilessly, she broke down crying right there in class. Made me sad. It was my first experience with blacks' basic mindset. I always wondered if she continued with teaching. Anyone know her?

...One particularly controversial song entitled "Old Dead White Men,"describes President James Monroe's presidential term by saying: "White men getting richer than Enron. They stepping on Indians, women and blacks. Era of Good Feeling doesn't come with the facts."
The song goes on to say: "Andrew Jackson thinks he's a tough guy. Killing more Indians than there are stars in the sky. Evil wars of Florida killing the Seminoles. Saying hello, putting Creek in the hell holes. Like Adolf Hitler he had the final solution. 'No, Indians, I don't want you to live here anymore."...
Anon references the blessings of Flocabulary.
ReplyDeleteIts instructive to look at the farsighted luminaries behind this worthy project.
Clearly some black folks are involved. And some white folks too, in fact they rather seem to be running the show. Could they, perhaps, have something in common, something that might help them in this laudable cause.
Alas, without further information, one can merely indulge in idle speculation.
>You're a dumb Goy trying to make sense of a world beyond your comprehension.<
ReplyDeleteLOL. Please start a blog and use that line as the blog title.
Funny how pseudoscientific racists (sorry, Race Realists) invariably seem to have believed such things before stumbling across these very convincing statistics.
ReplyDeleteYeah, because, you know, all races' natural tendency to avoid the "Other" and prefer to associate with the members of their own lineage cannot possibly be hard-wired, now, can it? It can only be due to Patriarchal and Racist brainwashing. Any "natural" tendency we have is either bigotry or a "social construct."
Who knows why those specific "social constructs" have emerged almost universally, in all societies. Such as, well, considering women inferior for doing men's jobs. Due to incomprehensible reasons, all societies have conspired to be ignorant and bigoted and chose to "socially construct" the very same norms.
Who knows how we -- as a species... or, rather as its subgroups since the members of our whole species hardly ever lived on the same street -- made it to the present day without verifying our choices through statistics first. Say, preferring warm to cold, sugary substances to bitter ones, pleasure to pain, etc. It's all "ignorance" and "bigotry."
Since science has shown things like, ... well, that we are not the center of the universe -- a knowledge which umpteen other species have managed to do perfectly well without: where the planet earth is situated in space -- we must assume all "folk" knowledge humans have about other humans (a type of knowledge which has very little, if any, impact on evolution: sorting out the behavioral tendencies of other humans) is all ignorance and bigotry. Only academics can verify whether we should, say, care about our own babies more than we do about a total stranger in Waziristan.
And that word "pseudo," jeez. How you liberal idiots just love it. I know, you being verbal types with probably 110 average IQs, and incapable of doing even elementary statistics, math, or logic, your only shot is figurative speech, squid-ink metaphors, and name-calling. Just slap the word "pseudo" before "science" and you're done. You've made your case.
