How much evidence is there against DSK?

Is there enough evidence to convict Dominique Strauss-Kahn in court? I can't tell. Maybe on Friday at the Grand Jury hearing more will be revealed. I expected there to be more by now, though.

From the outside, we have what looks like a He Said She Said case. The accuser is being kept anonymous, while the accused is the head of the International Monetary Fund. So, this being 2011, we naturally believe the accuser on the grounds that an anonymous person is likely more reliable than a famous international financial expert.

In the case of this particular international financial expert, moreover, we have a long chain of rumors about him abusing women under his influence. DSK is an expert at misusing influence. On the other hand, a maid with a vacuum cleaner isn't somebody who thinks that maybe if she gives in to his advances, she'll get put in charge of the Portugal bailout.

What facts have been revealed might be consistent with a variety of scenarios, none of which would reflect well on DSK. But not all of them would be consistent with outright stranger rape. For example, say he lays a few Benjamin Franklins on the table. Needing cash, the maid accepts them. A few minutes later, out in the corridor, she runs into her boss, who asks why her lipstick is a mess. Panicking about losing her job, she makes up a story about a naked presidential candidate jumping her and forcing her to make a mess of her lipstick.

Well, maybe. And, keep in mind, that's probably the scenario that makes DSK look best (short of a gigantic movie-style conspiracy), which isn't very good. It's easy to make up scenarios more plausible than the official one where DSK is still criminally guilty of some version of rape. But, I'll skip the graphic details of those scenarios.

Yet, what strikes me as most telling against DSK is that the management of the Sofitel, a French-owned hotel, apparently spent some time thinking about what to do before deciding to call the cops. Hotel managers generally don't like having potential presidents arrested for scandalous events inside their hotels. That they eventually decided to trust their poorly paid employee over their VIP guest suggests they had good reasons (hallway video?) to believe her.

But, despite the millions of words published on this story, I don't exactly know what those reasons were.

P.S. There's also the weirdness about the maid living in a charitable complex for AIDS sufferers. She was given "asylum" in the U.S. 7 years ago, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Can foreigners get asylum in the U.S. for having AIDS? Of course they can.
Political Asylum for People with HIV
By Rosa Bramble Weed, L.C.S.W.
From AIDS Community Research Initiative of America
Fall 2006
There are significant numbers of immigrants living with HIV in New York, receiving medical treatment and other services important to a healthy quality of life. Some arrived as refugees seeking asylum. Others, however, are not aware that in their native countries they lived under circumstances that make them eligible for political asylum.

So, what's the story with this?

  1. Maybe the evidence that convinced Sofitel management to believe the maid was in fact a lack of evidence: they found no Benjamins in her wallet....

  2. The most significant evidence I've read about is that some papers have claimed that the key card records show that the door was never closed during the encounter.
But if she'd agreed to consensual sex, she probably would've closed that door herself.

Perhaps what's most important, though, is what we haven't heard. If she had a criminal background or a history of insanity, I think it would have come out by now. And like you said, the management probably would have had a pretty good idea if it was common for maids to play hanky panky, and it looks like they didn't think so.

My best guess--based on our limited evidence--is that he's guilty but didn't quite realize what he was doing at the time. I think when he's gone too far in the past the women have put up a huge fight and snapped him back to reality before some awkward groping turned into rape. And as long as he stopped at the groping, pressing charges was just too much of a hassle for most. The maid's resistance was probably just a bit too weak, probably due to fear and bewilderment.

These days it's just another kind of diversity -- just another 'community'. They should add a category for it to the DV programs.

  4. A proper link to the 'Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Program'. Pardon.

Interesting if not too surprising info here:

While only about 7 percent of white adults lack high school diplomas, it's 45 percent of Latino adults in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. More than half of public school students come from families in poverty, and just 100 of the state's 2,500 high schools produce nearly half of its dropouts.

Would also be interesting to know what percentage of US born Hispanics lack a HS diploma.

A city where half the adults of its soon-to-be (if not already) largest population group did not even make it through high school. Absolutely third-worldish.

  7. The greatest mystery of all is Sofitel's behaviour. Luxury hotels end to protect fiercely their clients. They pay former policemen and cultivate contacts in the local police force to be able to cover up their paying clients's indiscretions. Presumably the IMF (that paid the bills) was high in Sofitel's VIP client lists, so they would never contact the police because of a lowly African maid's dubious complaint. I dont believe in conspiracies but something is very wrong here.

One thing I am sure, Sofitel's Manhattan manager's career is finished. If he is NOT terminated, that would prove that he acted on higher orders.

Absolutely. But it took them one hour to call the police. Presumably there were frantic phone calls between the management of the hotel and the big bosses in France. Did the big bosses themselves call their contact in the Elysée Palace, or even Mr S himself?

What's wrong was DSK's behavior: you don't jump chambermaids in a hotel which belongs to a buddy of Sarkozy, when you are the only presidential candidate who is 99% sure to beat Sarkozy in the next presidential election...

My impression so far is that the hotel went with this 30-something Ghanaian Muslim widow because she was very credible; DSK picked on the wrong victim. Any previous maids DSK raped were likely much less credible, indeed may not have reported it at all.

I'm sure they made a call back to their higher ups in La Patrie. If those higher ups were connected to the Conservative Party it probably took them about 5 seconds to say "Are you f'ing kidding me? Get DSK in handcuffs now! And Sarkozy will personally reward you!" or something to that effect. If DSK had been staying in a luxury hotel owned by Americans he would be a free man today.

  11. "The greatest mystery of all is Sofitel's behaviour. Luxury hotels tend to protect fiercely their clients"

Not a mystery at all when you remember who owns the hotel, as I pointed out above. Never stay in a hotel controlled by your political enemies.

Of course this could backfire - I assume Sarkozy and friends just wanted DSK embarassed. Having sent him to jail for 20 years will seriously embarass all of France. Someone may have misjudged how seriously the US takes rape.

  12. In the 5/17/11 (IIRC) WSJ, the maid's lawyer explicitly denied the AIDS-shelter story, adding to the sense that it's not correct.

Other details that the reporter claimed to have gotten off-the-record from police and hotel staff:

    * When the staff entered the suite sometime around (just after?) noon, it was past check-out time. DSK had not requested a late check-out. (He was supposed to have been on an early-morning flight, but missed it.)

    * The staff followed standard Sofitel procedure. A male employee from Room Service knocked, open the door, stepped into the suite, and called out loudly. On getting no response, he swept through the suite, looking to pick up dishes, cups, and trays. When he left, he gave the all-clear to the maid from Housekeeping, who then entered the suite. It was at that point that she encountered DSK.

These claims are, presumably, readily verified. If true, they make the "DSK was framed" narrative much more difficult to credit (was Room Service as well as Housekeeping in on the plot?).

They also place obstacles in the way of the consensual BJ version of events, which apparently is going to form the basis of DSK's defense at today's (Friday's) hearing. Arranged beforehand? How? Spur of the moment? Okay... I guess it's possible... But not a very promising scene, even for a quickie.

If this is the best that DSK's Dream Team can come up with... not good.

  15. Re: My prior comment

The account that the maid followed hotel protocol was by Fox News, not the WSJ.

    --- begin fair-use extract ---

It was shortly after 12 p.m. on Saturday when, law enforcement sources say, the housekeeper was told by a man working room service who had just left Strauss-Kahn’s suite that it was empty. After the noon checkout time, room service personnel sweep the rooms, retrieve trays, leftover food and condiments, and then they tell housekeeping whether or not the room they’ve left is occupied.

A room service employee told the housekeeper that there was no one in the enormous suite where Strauss-Kahn had been staying.

Sources said she knocked on the door of Strauss-Kahn’s 28th-floor suite three times, per protocol, each time saying “Housekeeping,” louder and louder. Then, she rang the doorbell. There was no “Do Not Disturb” sign on the doorknob. There was no sign on the doorknob at all.

According to the housekeeper’s account, as relayed to FoxNews.com by law enforcement sources, that’s when the maid opened the door and encountered a naked Strauss-Kahn...

    -- end fair-use extract ---

By the way, the rack rate for the suite is $3,000. Apparently DSK (not IMF) paid $800 for the night. Considering Midtown hotel prices, that's not nearly as extravagant.

I dunno, none of this makes any sense. But that's why we're talking about it, because it's anomalous: it's an L&O SVU episode come to life. The rules of probability don't apply to man bites dog stories.

If it's consensual, does the chambermaid spit the spooge on the rug? I don't think she does.

And as AMac points out, the IMF was not paying the bill. DSK was in NY on his own business (whatever that is, and how did he get so rich anyway?), which is why there's no diplomatic immunity.

  19. Obviously more will come out as time goes by, but it's going to have to be big to get a conviction. DSK's lawyer - Benjamin Brafman - is a superb defense attorney. Based on what I've seen so far, i would bet on a hung jury.

One problem with this scenario is that the IMF guy seems to have left the hotel in a great hurry (e.g. as supposedly shown by a video and also his leaving behind his phone and a couple of other things). Unless he'd known he might be facing a serious problem, why would he do that?

Based on everything that's come out, it sounds like he'd been been raping and "raping" vast numbers of women for many, many years, and the System just protected him. But he didn't consider that time his internal enemies might decide not to do so.

As I'd mentioned on a previous thread, this sort of thing sounds *awfully* similar to the sort of widespread elite misbehavior that led to all those head-shortenings a couple of centuries ago.

And here's another interesting detail that came up in the NYT account. My impression is that France has tended to have an extremely elitist but highly meritocratic system, in which exam-based entrance to the Grandes Ecoles, especially ENA, has for decades been a strict requirement for national leadership. Strangely enough, the IMF guy apparently failed his exams and instead attended a second-rate college (Sarkozy did the same), eventually rising through other means (networking? corruption?). Societies run by not-particularly-bright individuals with strong criminal tendencies may enounter all sorts of difficulties...

    - - - - -

Well, assuming the elements of the story as reported are correct, "DSK was framed" needs to account for the following:

    * The framers knew he would be in the suite at noon, in time to set the plot in motion. Despite DSK having planned to take an early-morning flight. So they had to have known he missed it. He didn't ask for an extended check out. But they knew he was still in the suite, anyway. (They had access to keycard logs and security video?)

    * Male room-service employee goes through the suite and doesn't report DSK's presence. So he's in on the plot, or being paid off.

    * The maid, obviously, is either in on plot or being paid.

    * The supervisor(s) of Room Service and Housekeeping had to have arranged for those particular two employees to handle the cleanup of DSK's suite. So count him or her in.

This is getting to be a fairly inelegant set-up. It was put together at the last minute (viz. scheduled early flight out), and involves at least four Sofitel employees (maid, room service guy, supervisor, security person).

It isn't naive to suggest that it's unlikely that Sarko's buddies would have run with this Rube Goldberg. From the mastermind's point of view, there's too much that could go astray.

  25. In this account, DSK appears to have lied about the timeline in order to make his departure from the hotel appear less urgent:

"As investigators piece together the timeline of events, they have also found surveillance video showing Strauss-Kahn leaving the Sofitel at 12:29 p.m. on Saturday, and getting into a yellow cab. Using the cab's GPS, police found and interviewed the driver, who has told investigators his passenger said nothing during the ride and made no phone calls.

"Strauss-Kahn's lawyers provided a different account in court papers Wednesday. They maintain he checked out at 12:28 p.m. and had lunch a few blocks from the hotel at 12:45 p.m., before being driven to the airport.

"The taxi GPS shows him arriving at the airport around 1:15 p.m."

Although described as a practicing African Muslim, with all that might imply to the average person, the ones I dealt with in a social service job I had didn't seem to conform to what one might consider religious behavior. Out of wedlock children, which implies some hanky-panky, and scamming the welfare system were regular occurrences. They seemed to be evasive and lied a lot.
Scamming the subsidized housing market happens quite a lot; subletting one's apt, concealing the actual income they have, having more people stay there than are on the lease, etc.
How did this person get into the USA? Lottery or asylum? If asylum then that's probably a scam. She's proven not to be adverse to scamming the housing program.

  30. I believe the case against him, so far, for the reasons I did not believe the charges against the Duke Lacrosse team: consistency. People feel the strong need to tell, and retell, when they've been wronged or have heard about someone else being wronged. Our sense of justice needing to be served is probably why.

We didn't have any of this with the Duke Lacrosse team. Whereas with this guy, everything has been hiding in plain sight. There was a book published last year in France accusing this guy of raping a Mexican maid that is now zooming up the charts. It was controversial when it was published, but quickly disappeared down the memory hole.

I told my husband last night that as a result of this episode, I better understand the jealousy of American leftists, at least for the last several decades, for their counterparts in Europe.

But just what is it with semitic/levantine men and sex mania?, from what I've seen there's seems to be a clear correlation. One story I well remember is of the philosopher Arthur Koestler (who was well known as a 'wolf', as such men were charmingly known in the '50s), forcing his attentions on 'Mrs Michael Foot (he was an old befuddled white-haired Bloomsbury-set type socialist in Britain, much loved, but lead the Labour Party to their worst defeat in history against Mrs Thatcher), tthe noted film maker Jill Craigie (famous for 'Blue Scars' a documentary on Welsh coalminers), and actually banging her head forcefully on the sidewalk as she resisted.
As far as I know the Foots never took any action against Koestler.
And then we have Elliot Spritzer, the whole Hollywood casting-couch thing, and countless over examples.
I'm inclined to believe that there is causal link to typically Jewish/Lebanese genetics and perhaps elevated IQ.

"A source familiar with the first of two High Bridge apartments the Guinean native lived in confirmed that she rented her apartment through Harlem United Community AIDS Center, a social-service agency that provides housing for adults with HIV/AIDS.

"'There was a lease and monthly rental payments by Harlem United,' the source said, noting that the victim's name was on the lease.

"The Post has not been able to determine whether the maid, 32, has HIV/AIDS because of medical confidentiality laws. But the agency rents apartments only for adults with the virus, an employee said."

    From yesterday's --

"...law-enforcement sources said hotel staffers failed to alert cops to the incident for up to three hours... Hotel video cameras show the maid running from his room after the alleged attack, which occurred after noon, and into the maid service area on the floor, one source said. There, she called her boss, who arrived 10 to 15 minutes later, and then called another supervisor.

"It took 10 to 15 minutes more for that boss to arrive, the source said. Hotel security was then called. About 10 to 15 minutes later, another security worker arrived and called his boss. Meanwhile, Strauss-Kahn apparently fled his room even before the first boss even arrived. It's not clear when cops were finally called. One source said it was after about 3:30 p.m., when Strauss-Kahn called the hotel looking for his cellphone; another said around 2:30 p.m."

  38. The late, great and much-loved British comedian, Benny Hill made a whole career based on the theme of the 'dirty' predatory older man being 'ruled by his dick' and therefore getting into all sorts of sorry scrapes.
Part of Benny's charm was that the 'predator' was old and rather pathetic - and always ended up looking like a fool, subconsciouly this tapped into the repressed thoughts and feelings of his mostly male audience who secretly saw themselves in Benny - the pathetic old man who never grew up, can't get it up, but at heart is still a 20 year old 'player'.
The slap-stick ribaldry of Benny Hill spoke volumes about deep psychology, alpha malehood, Oedipus complexes and the knowledge of physical and sexual mortality.
Growing up as a kid in the Britain of the mid 70s, 'The Benny Hill' show was the only comedy my late middle aged Dad actually liked.
Curiously enough, Briatin in the 1970s was a place with aculture of casual 'sexism' (for want of a better word), in which the depiction of semi-naked women as foils for Benny's 'dirty old man' antics was only seen as hilarious and never demeaning.
In a similar vein I recommend the first 'On The Buses' movie (highest grossing British film of 1971, outgrossing 'Diamonds Are Forever'), a movie purely based on casual 'sexism', ahilarious film that Americans are totally unaware of.

He's probably gotten away with stuff like this before in France, and didn't realize how different it would be in the US. Or he just did it, without thinking, out of habit, because he does this kind of thing once in a while, because he's crazy.

Remember, in Paris, nothing would have happened to him. The maid, supposing she even bothered to complain, would just be told, "Well, you don't want any problem with your immigration status, do you...?"

I read somewhere that he was in the room past check-out time. Having worked in that industry, I can tell you the halls tend to be quiet and virtually deserted except for staff just after check-out. Staff is way too busy to be interested in anything but getting the work done. And most everybody who was going to leave has left, the rest are sleeping in or sleeping whatever off.

Also, by the door being "open" do they mean fully open or merely ajar? Maids clean rooms with the doors open but that doesn't mean it was thrown all the way open. Plus, in a room as large as that one must be, he could assault her around a corner that was not visible from the hall, which I suspect was deserted then anyway. Also, all the carpeting and heavy drapes in the sleeping and lounging areas tend to muffle sound.

From my POV, the events she relates seem plausible.

    my version:
there are people who would die without a coffee in the morning, so is DSK the kind of guy that need his daily romp to get his head working. In the Sofitel this was well known and the concierge has always been paid to let every time a highclass hooker in. Maybe the "rape" simulation is part of the agreement, who knows. This time, though, the Sofitel's guy get a phone call and an offer he cannot refuse. So, instead of sending the hooker to room 2086, he lets the unaware maid clean the room. DSK is already aroused and nervous when the maid comes in, he was waiting too much for his "coffee". For the Greece-bailout he needs a clear head after all.

That's the easiest set-up in history. The question is: who made the call?

  45. The accuser is being kept anonymous, while the accused is the head of the International Monetary Fund. So, this being 2011, we naturally believe the accuser on the grounds that an anonymous person is likely more reliable than a famous international financial expert.

His past record with women, which is already coming to light, lends a lot of credibility to the charges. The madam in the Eliot Spitzer case says she once supplied Kahn with an "escort", and that the escort said Kahn was too rough and she'd not work on him again.

Another woman in France has described him as a "rutting chimpanzee". And all this stuff is just starting to come out.

LOL @ the united states taking in young africans with HIV. each one of them is like a 1 million dollar money pit. as they are unskilled they have no way to ever pay for the costs of their treatment, which they will always get at taxpayer expense, and now that you don't have to die from HIV, they get to go on for decades receiving far more in medical treatment than they could ever earn or generate for the economy by their own efforts.

this is the purpose of the US now though according to liberals, to service the people of the world. immigrants who are massive net liabilities are just as welcome as anyone else.

  49. Though the revelations about sexual proclivities of powerful men are often shocking, I still think something's wrong here. The act was one of great impulsivity which demonstrates a lack of self-control out of someone who should have a great deal of discipline as the head of the IMF.

Obviously I don't know enough about rich and powerful men to do much speculating, especially such men who use sex in deviant ways. But, what if the guy was angry over the chain of events leading up to missing his flight? Could he have been so frustrated he needed some sort of release? Also, how would he have known the maid that day would be to his liking? Do men whose schedule is completely thrown off generally have a heightened level of arousal? I think I'd be more likely to wag my luggage down to the hotel bar to pass the time until the next flight.

The other possibility is that previous contact with the maid led DSK to believe he could buy some time with her (b/c she was from an exploitable population not b/c she was peddling her wares). Is the accuser from a French speaking country? That might have led to a sense of familiarity apart from the encounter in question.

BTW, are DSK and Schwartzennegar's sexual excesses examples of what Old Europe is all about?

  50. "Okay, so the head of the IMF tried to rape the maid with the door open? At noon?"

You're using a generic title to obfuscate matters. If you substitute the specific "DSK" for "head of the IMF" no Frenchman should blink twice. The man had a serious rep as a libertine and swinger well before this. He has enjoyed plenty of anonymous sex at some of France's finest sex clubs, it may be an unthinking habit for him to stick his member in the nearest woman's mouth if he's naked and aroused. I'm not joking. The person we need to weigh in here is Michel Houellebecq. DSK sounds like the protagonist of one his novels.

  51. J writes:

"Presumably the IMF (that paid the bills) was high in Sofitel's VIP client lists, so they would never contact the police because of a lowly African maid's dubious complaint. I dont believe in conspiracies but something is very wrong here.

"One thing I am sure, Sofitel's Manhattan manager's career is finished. If he is NOT terminated, that would prove that he acted on higher orders."

Dude, you couldn't be more wrong. The manager acted appropriately. You should know that Sofitel mgt is just as afraid of a lawsuit brought by the maid as it is of an overrated IMF head.

It's not even the lawsuit per se, but getting sledgehammered by the press, via a lawsuit or no. A White complainant could be bad enough with DSK's fame drawing attention, but this one belongs to a protected race. That makes it a few times more threatening. An agent of the hotel could certainly advise her, but I don't see how they can control her. If she wants to report it without the hotel's help, what are they going to do about it? At most they could offer her a ton of dough, as could DSK himself. Evidently that didn't happen, or it didn't work.

  54. I'm inclined to believe that there is causal link to typically Jewish/Lebanese genetics and perhaps elevated IQ.

I read a long argument about the origins of Ashkenazi IQ (that's what people mean when they talk about Jewish IQ; non-Ashkenazi IQ isn't anything to write home about) and the upshot seemed to be that it comes from the European side, and didn't really percolate until later in Jewish history (2nd millennium AD).

It was a while back, but I seem to remember Greg Cochran being in on the conversation.

  57. A larger, deep-dark question lurks
in all this--Just what sort of "monitoring" does our** American national security apparatus commonly direct toward any politically important person such as DSK who is "stopping over" in the US(** include "our" 51st State security presence, as well )?? The one or two instances I'm aware of when the beans have been spilled by defectors from the U.S. national security apparatus, certainly do not suggest it to be highly presumptuous that DSK might have been monitored to the extent that an "opening" for smearing would have been quickly detected and exploited. This is not a "theory" but certainly a heavy enough question mark. Philip Agee's writings--going back more than 40 years--certainly do not suggest there would have been any reflexive governmental veto of such "monitoring". This is true especially in view of the greatly enhanced current technology and the steady erosion of elemental decency in national security applications.

You've probably seen Paul Roberts' assertion in his syndicated column:

The Daily Mail reports that Strauss-Kahn’s suspicions are supported by the fact that the first person to break the news of Strauss-Kahn’s arrest was an activist in Mr Sarkozy’s UMP party—who apparently knew about the scandal before it happened.

Jonathan Pinet, a politics student, tweeted the news just before the New York Police Department made it public, although he said that he simply had a ‘friend’ working at the Sofitel where the attack was said to have happened.

  63. I tend to believe the charges against DSK. It takes fairly good character and a moral background (don't want shame, what would the family think) to avoid stuff like this because ... POWER is so nearly absolute that a person like a DSK can get away with it for years: Polanski (that girl was doubtless not the first or last he assaulted), DSK, Clinton, etc.

  65. VDARE.com: 05/17/11 - The Amerikan Police State Strides Forward

    [...]

President Bill Clinton survived his sexual escapades, because he was a servant to the system, not a threat. But Strauss-Kahn, like former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, was a threat to the system, and, like Eliot Spitzer, Strauss-Kahn has been deleted from the power ranks.

Strauss-Kahn was the first IMF director in my lifetime, if memory serves, who disavowed the traditional IMF policy of imposing on the poor and ordinary people the cost of bailing out Wall Street and the Western banks. Strauss-Kahn said that regulation had to be reimposed on the greed-driven, fraud-prone financial sector, which, unregulated, destroyed the lives of ordinary people. Strauss-Kahn listened to Nobel economist Joseph Stiglitz, one of a handful of economists who has a social conscience.

    [...]

It is possible that Strauss-Kahn eliminated himself and saved Washington the trouble. However, as a well-travelled person who has often stayed in New York hotels and in hotels in cities around the world, I have never experienced a maid entering unannounced into my room, much less when I was in the shower.

In the spun story, Strauss-Kahn is portrayed as so deprived of sex that he attempted to rape a hotel maid. Anyone who ever served on the staff of a powerful public figure knows that this is unlikely. On a senator’s staff on which I served, there were two aides whose job was to make certain that no woman, with the exception of his wife, was ever alone with the senator. This was done to protect the senator both from female power groupies, who lust after celebrities and powerful men, and from women sent by a rival on missions to compromise an opponent. A powerful man such as Strauss-Kahn would not have been starved for women, and as a multi-millionaire he could certainly afford to make his own discreet arrangements.

  66. OT, yes very likely Ashkenazi Jews high IQ are related to European inter-marriage and high selection during the Dark/Middle Ages. No Roman, Greek, Carthaginian, Phoenician, Hittite, Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, and Persian sources ever described Jews in the ME as anything but stupid and stubborn. Jews were never court physicians, architects, and suchlike as they were starting in the 1200's for Arab, Turkish, and European courts.

What is it BTW with guys like DeNiro having such an obsession with Black women? That I don't get. The Tall/Dark/Handsome model ala Steve I get, along with Fair maiden. Black women are not fair/light. I don't get it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sofitel's delay in calling the police could be explained if the victim initially didn't want to call the cops but called her boss from the hospital to say she wanted to call the police after all (doubtless at the urging of her brother and her nurses).

The hotel knew once she went to the hospital, they'd be powerless to cover it up, NYPD detectives have more press contacts than a Hollywood agent.

  70. Strauss-Kahn was the first IMF director in my lifetime, if memory serves, who disavowed the traditional IMF policy of imposing on the poor and ordinary people the cost of bailing out Wall Street and the Western banks...

This is the only intelligent explaination I've heard of this curious case so far.

Why do guys like George Herbert Walker, Bill Clinton, Strom Thurmon, Jessie Jackson, JFK, Teddy Kennedy have affairs, mistresses and bastards aplenty known to their enemies and the MSM but never get exposed or punished. Why do guys like Spitzer, Gary Hart, etc get destroyed for similar offenses?

A safe assumption is that any influential pol is both a horn dog and has stink on him. A rich backer would want all their front men pols to have such dirt which act like a self-destruct button in case the pol goes broken arrow.
