Whole KKK assault blanket thing works out well for Oberlin dean

Oberlin College's one-man Ku Klux Klan rally nervous breakdown of a couple of weeks ago has largely disappeared down the media memory hole, with, for example, apparently no information about the identities of two students removed from campus being released by anybody. (But who is even asking? Why would you want to know? All you need to know is that hate crimes at Oberlin were national front page news a couple of weeks ago, but now they aren't. If you are supposed to be curious about what actually happened, you'll be informed that being interested is appropriate through the proper channels.)

Still, it all seems to have worked out well for one Oberlin higher-up. The local Chronicle-Telegram reports:
Kenyon College taps Oberlin dean for president

Filed by Lisa Roberson March 19th, 2013 in Top Stories.

An Oberlin College dean who was at the center of the college’s response to incidents of hate and bigotry has been tapped to be the next leader of Kenyon College, another of Ohio’s liberal arts colleges. Sean Decatur, 44, will be Kenyon’s 19th president and will assume the position in July. Kenyon’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously Sunday to hire Decatur after conducting a national search.

Oberlin: We're willing to act like hysterical idiots over the slightest whiff of an anti-PC act!

Kenyon: We're the most PC! We're willing to hire a black idiot who helped cause your idiocy to be our leader!

  3. Another bonus on your resume: you instigated, led, or took part in some PC witchhunt.

If conservatives ran the colleges, I suppose Joe McCarthy would have been president of Harvard.

The FBI was called in to investigate those incidents. Are they not obliged, as a governmental agency, to give some account of what they found out?

What's Decatur's next upward move - a commissarship at SPLC?

who was at the center of the college’s response to incidents of hate and bigotry

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

They cancelled a whole day of classes because one student mistook a girl wrapped in a blanket for a KKK rally.

And they're afraid of right-wing paranoia.

Am I laughing or crying? I can't tell anymore.

  11. I flipped through more Google Images of this fellow. He looks like some random South Asian business titan sticking around for a 5-minute interview on CNBC "Closing Bell" (who is probably far from random but hey, they all look the same to me). Of course college administrators are the modern Medicis among the SWPL circles.

  13. THE KKK! The boogyman of 21st America. Much as Czarist Russia was to Victorian Britain.

Really? While there was no great love between those two powers, there was no state of cold war either. The bogeyman one year could be Czarist Russia, the next year Ottoman Turkey, and the next year the newly-founded German Empire.

If there was ever a consistent bogeyman for Victorian England, it would have to be Ireland, then India and China.

"Your Imperialist Majesty, the Micks and Wogs are revolting!"

"Then give those heathen subhumans soap, water, and Bibles."

"I mean they are in a state of armed uprising against the Crown, because they are starving!"

    "Then let them eat soap."

  15. I used to contribute to my daughter's alma mater every year (Douglass College of Rutgers University). I'm not giving any more since they brought in the second in a row black president (at least - I don't know who was there before 2005). There is obviously a race test for president of that college and it is offensive and bizarre.

  16. You're a journalist Steve, quit complaining and find out for yourself what happened to those people. Contact the Oberlin police department and the security department at the college.

  17. lol. but will he support the swim team. kenyon, D3 champions for years. i think denison is the D3 champion now though.

ohio is like the center of D3 swimming. what's weird is that there are a few D3 guys who are D1 speed but went to kenyon, denison, MIT, or johns hopkins for no money instead of going to cal, michigan, stanford, arizona, texas, or USC on full ride swimming scholarships.

it's weird, especially in the case of kenyon and denison. they'd rather go to a small college for no money instead of going to a big prestigious university for big money. i don't mean this in an ironic way either. i don't get the angle here.

D2 is not even a consideration, but i get why that is. because there are zero good D2 schools academically. but not even taking a look at a D1 scholarship offer? really?
