Most awesome plaintiffs' names in the Ricci case

The lead plaintiff in the New Haven firemen's reverse discrimination case, Ricci et al v. DeStefano, is famously Frank Ricci. He was presumably picked out by their lawyers to be the face of the case because, I assume, he's a good guy with a good record and a human interest story about his being dyslexic. But I like some of the the other plaintiffs' names, especially the last two:
Brief for Petitioner Frank Ricci, Michael Blatchley, Greg Boivin, Gary Carbone, Michael Christoforo, Ryan Divito, Steven Durand, William Gambardella, Brian Jooss, James Kottage, Matthew Marcarelli, Thomas J. Michaels, Sean Patton, Christopher Parker, Edward Riordan, Kevin Roxbee, Timothy Scanlon, Benjamin Vargas, John Vendetto and Mark Vendetto

As a general rule of thumb, Mayor DeStefano, it's not a good idea to cheat out of what is rightfully their's anybody known as the Vendetto Brothers ...

Judging by the surnames on that list, I would not be surprised if something fishy was going on and there was some manipulation involved.

If I recall correctly, Ricci claims to have "dyslexia" and had some elaborate way of recording the study tapes and listening to them, etc.

Seems like he had access to more than just study materials....

this is off topic, but thought i'd mention it because i'm sure it would amuse many isteve readers.

mencius moldbug, in his latest post actually uses the phrase "the international Protestant conspiracy" seriously.

usually he says "universalism" or "Calvinism" or some other variation for the same idea.

i just thought it was hilarious that he can actually use that phrase with a straight face.

and all along i thought we were all dying out and being demographically displaced! well, good to know we're really, you know, running the show through this conspiracy. i guess that's why it's so hard to actually see us running the show. because, you know, it's a big conspiracy!

That reminds me of a South Park episode, the secret of white succes? Cheating.

Looks like about half the plaintiffs are Italians. So isn't this really about anti-Italian discrimination? What's New Haven got against the folks who gave us Leonardo and Sinatra?

What, no Coffin's or Sloan's on the list?

That SouthPark was great. Did you notice the graffiti on the side chalkboard? It was a tag of the semi-white power band the Cro-Mags? Great touch.

I liked Carbone and Divito too. Why do so many Italian names sound like an onomatopoeia for something drastic? Is the language itself still rather close to its roots in the daily passions of the life struggle? Or because English, based on Latin, takes its more grisly terms from names of Italian practitioners of grisly deeds?

New Haven's long had a big Italian-American population. It even has a Little Italy section, though a very small one. In addition, if firefighters are not required to be city residents, there are plenty of people of Italian ethnicity in the suburbs, especially East Haven ("Staven," as residents call it).

L'onore dei fratelli Vendetto non sara' impugnata!

I have a feeling the only way this lawsuit actually went ahead was because there are so many Italian-Americans involved. They don't have any white guilt due to slavery, so culturally they're much less willing to put up with b.s. from blacks and Hispanics, whereas North Euros quiver like jello at the thought of being called racist.

Connecticut has a high % of Italians. Look at the mayor of New Haven. I'm guessing so many Italians up there comes from (1) Italians being relatively intelligent, (2) Italian Catholics pretty common in fire departments. So in a fairly Italian area, it makes sense.

I dont for a minute buy the idea that italians, especially southern italians have an IQ equal to or higher than northern europeans. I've known too many. The g just isnt there.

May I make the more likely statement that the suggestion that the g just isn't there with you sir. Why do I say this? Well, what are the facts.

According to the study in IQ and the wealth of nations Italians had the highest IQ of all European nations. Sure, northern italy has a higher average just as southern england, west germany, and the northern US do. However, most italian-americans are from southern italy. And italian-americans have higher incomes, lower crimimnality, and higher entrepreuership than the white average in this country. Do you know any of these facts? Or do you just make ignorant assertions as a substitute for logic on what is otherwise a usually well informed blog on matters of this kind.

I don't think it can be seriously doubted that s. europeans are dumber than northern. But the key word in the passage above was relatively. On a worldwide basis, Italians, even the southern variety, certainly figure among the cleverer.

I wouldn't be so fast to say Italians are completely outside of liberalism. The mayor of the town in question has the last name DeStefano, so he is probably Italian like the firefighters he is refusing to promote. Second, DeStefano was elected, so he represents the general opinion in the city as well. Italians may have been immune to this nonsense in the past, but the media has had almost a hundred years to work on them and to try and change their opinions on race.

Of course, I could be very wrong. I just don't want someone claiming that a group that almost certainly gives a majority of its votes to the Democratic party will lead us to a fair government.

Savvygroper, The g just isnt with you. As many people have said (Steve might have been one of them) that the iq stats in wealth of nations should be taken with a grain of salt.
As for italians having higher incomes, thats because they are concentrated in the northeast. Higher entrepreneurship is also higher among mediterranean people than northern europeans. As far as lower criminality, sounds like you just pulled that one out of the hat. I worked in corrections. They were more overrepresented than other white groups according to their population. Know the facts and have experience dealing with many people before you make ignorant assertions. I've dealt with many italians outside of prison as well.

Anonymous, you are as short on hard facts as you are with a name to post with. "Taken with a grain of salt" is not the same as discounted wholesale. The IQ and the wealth of nations are consistent with other studies done. I see your assertions, but where are your facts. Your low brow impressionsitic conclusions are a poor substitute for factual analysis. Also, I note your use of weasel words: "common among mediterraneans" does not overturn the point being made. And the higher incomes has a lot to do with higher rates of savings and excellent credit scores. This has been documented many places, at least as far back as Sowell's ethnic america which you may do well to read. I'm not sure where your life experiences are, but many people confuse spanish names with italian ones.

"Or because English, based on Latin, takes its more grisly terms from names of Italian practitioners of grisly deeds?"

English isn't a Latin based Language, however, it has inherited many Latin words via Norman French, which when combined with Old English makes Middle English. I think that English is normally counted as part of the same language family as German or Danish, but with considerably more foreign influence owing to the English and general British habit of attacking every availible foreign nation and tongue in the hunt for booty (as in treasures not arse although that too) and loanwords respectively.

I don't know when the word vendetta was borrowed, but I think I might have been quite late. When I hear of a vendetta I oft find myself thinking of the Renaissance era city states.

"Capische?"

Savvygroper, I'll start with the last one first. It seems like your lack of people experience is showing. There are some spanish names that sound italian, no doubt. But when you match them up with the faces, you almost always can tell who's who. You have a punk rebuttal because your just attacking me without any hard facts or life experience. Show me stats on italians having lower crime rates than other whites. Or show me education levels of italians which is more of a correlation with iq than savings rate or credit scores. No more weak words, just hard facts.

Well, there are many facts on criminality in a major work I mentioned- Thomas Sowell's Ethnic America. Have you read this? You just seemed to gloss that over. The facts stated therein are that they had very low rates of serious crimes, and that their presence in city neighborhoods actually had the effect of lower crime rates for that area. This was documented not only in the US but also in Brazil, Argentina, and Australia where they have largely settled.

As has been mentioned on this blog before, income is closely correlated with IQ. This was a central theme of IQ and the wealth of nations which I have read also. The facts are that Italians have higher incomes wherever they have settled- in the US,Argentina, Australia, Brazil.

As for life experience the ones I know are very much as the facts suggest- above average income and intelligence, and non-existent levels of criminality. As I see it, I have presented several facts and references and you have not even attempted to do so.

I've read the Sowell book. Even he stated that higher incomes were because of living in higher income urban areas. You should read The Italian American Experience. Go to page 197 where the author talks about education. 1/3 of italians in 1990 were high school dropouts. There is also that low class guido subculture which I havent seen among other white ethnic groups except white southerners and their respective rednecks. Bottom line: the 102 iq in italy is highly suspect. Maybe they measured just northerners.
