Could Tiger have had his accuser arrested?

You'll recall that a few months ago, a man dropped into David Letterman's car a pitch for a movie for Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company to make about a talk show host who sleeps with his female staff. Letterman had the man arrested for blackmail, just as Bill Cosby had had his alleged daughter sent to prison for blackmail.

In 2007, in contrast, Tiger Woods consented to surprisingly revealing interviews with himself and his personal trainer in Men's Fitness, violating his exclusivity agreement with Golf Digest. In return, according to the Wall Street Journal, the National Enquirer, a periodical owned by the same company as Men's Fitness, American Media, agreed to squelch a story set to run in National Enquirer with pictures of the golfer and a waitress in a car in a parking lot.

That Men's Fitness article, featuring Tiger's trainer's out-of-control boasting about how much weight Tiger lifts, might prove more harmful in the long run than the two years of silence it bought was worth to Mr. Woods, now that his Canadian doctor's employee has admitted to acting as a Human Growth Hormone mule.

Tiger's subsequent troubles began on Thanksgiving Day 2009 with another National Enquirer story about Tiger and some other broad. That calls to mind Kipling's poem:

It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:
"Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we've proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

Rather than pay the National Enquirer's Dane-geld, wouldn't it have been simpler, all in all, to have the editor of the National Enquirer arrested? (That's assuming that giving up his cheatin' ways was never on the table.) After all, the government seems to be in the business of arresting people who make life unpleasant for celebrities like Letterman and Cosby.

Or does the law against blackmail only apply to people who neglect to lawyer-up, like Bill Cosby's purported kid? Laws are written by lawyers, so they tend to be harsh on people who fail to purchase legal counsel.

By the way, have you noticed that Tiger's big mistake was getting sentimental about his some of his skanks and whores, leaving lots of sappy text messages for them to go to the press with? I imagine that his mentor Michael Jordan must be shaking his head in dismay. How could all his lessons have been so misunderstood?

Charles Barkley, though, is here to say what's on his mind. From the NY Post:
"Elin took his cellphone away [after the fight], so he had to call [me] from his land line at home," the woman said. "He hasn't called in at least a week, though."

Woods' pal, former NBA star Charles Barkley, said, "I've been trying to reach him and can't get him. It's very frustrating." He said he just wants to tell Woods, "Hey, man, We love you," and, "You should reach out to your celebrity friends when things go bad. They're the only people who understand."

Indeed.
Director Spike Lee said on Barkley's upcoming, taped show "With All Due Respect" that he's worried about Woods, too. "He's insulated. If Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan can't get to him, and those are his boys, then people are making bad moves," Lee said.

Crap. Why can't we just be like the French, have cool buildings, discrete quality mistresses, and adorable babes like Alizee? Hell, they even won the world cup for soccer or whatever a while ago. And I understand the English consider them decent enough to compete in Rugby.

Prediction: record attendance and TV audience at the Masters this year ('cause a white guy might win?).

I haven't followed the timeline that closely, but wasn't Tiger boffing some of these chicks just prior to his marriage? It tells me that his marriage was just a "phoned in" affair, and he was still searching for an emotional connection. Not a good scenario.

This actually demonstrates again the same thing I said the last time this came up: Contrary to Steve's strange romantic notion of the heroic blackmailer exposing the truth to the world, the blackmailer's interest is in suppressing the truth, not revealing it. Or more precisely, he will do whichever is in his self-interest, and if that is suppression (and it usually is -could Haldeman's ludicrous movie idea ever have made as much money as a successful blackmail could have?), that is what he will do.

I suspect the authorities are much more reluctant to arrest magazine editors than ordinary people. Call it freedom of the press or call it nobody in politics wanting the media to have a grudge against them.

The only explanation I can offer for Woods actions is hubris. So much money, a fawning sportspress, so many lackeys...the guy thought he was above it all.

An question no one is asking: Why does Tiger live in a "gated community," when he could owned a San Simeon-style property and live there in a mansion, protected by his flunkies and cronies? His only neighbors would be invited guests. The security staff wouldn't even report a minor car accident to the police. He could surround it with golf courses, and use the whole thing as a tax write-off.

These black guys kill me. They just don't get it. It seems to me Tiger got in trouble in because he eventually began to act like just another black athlete.
It would have been better for Tiger NOT to hang around the likes of Jordan and Barkley, a piece of trash if there ever was one.

This reminds me of how Don King told Mike Tyson that brothas must all hang together cuz the white man is out to get you. How did that turn out for Tyson?

I think Woods, because he's more Asian than black(and was raised in a non-black environment), naturally feels more shame and inhibition that most shameless blacks steeped in black culture. This is a good thing.

Best advice to Tiger is face up to his sins, sincerely apologize, atone, and start anew. DO NOT go the black route of jivetalking and acting like he's entitled to do whatever and get away with it.

Do not listen to Spike Flea, that Kermit the Frog look-alike motha*****.

What of dear Elin,to whom our sympathy goes, poor thing, couldnt he have had her arrested for assault? If she's a violent psycho bitch, how can she get custody of the kids? I wonder if Tiger, not being the family man that he pretended to be,is again misperceived, this time falsely thought to be worldly and cunning, like a Michael Jordan, when in fact he is probably childlike and none too bright. His wife files in "Cullifornia" when its obv they live in Florida?? Come on Tiger, time to get tough! he should have filed when he saw the marriage was doomed. Much as I would love to see him go broke,I dislike his money going to that cheap gold digging tramp. And the kids? their future will involve lots of quality time with the nanny, while mom spends Tigers money!

If the National Enquirer didn't ask for anything and just said we are doing a story on Woods and then Woods came back and said we will do a cover for you, just don't run a story on this woman and me. Then, Woods initiated it and not the editors,so it's not blackmail technically. It might be a technical point on who brought it up first.

I think Welmer has some excellant points.

It seems that Women who specifically target men of wealth are hookers, but with a higher IQ than street hookers & escorts.

"I think it's likely that past increases in the prison population played a large role in depressing the crime rate after 1990."

That's what Charles Murray pretty much believes.

"The underclass has been growing. The crime rate has been dropping for 13 years. But the proportion of young men who grow up unsocialized and who, given the opportunity, commit crimes, has not.

A rough operational measure of criminality is the percentage of the population under correctional supervision. This is less sensitive to changes in correctional fashion than imprisonment rates, since people convicted of a crime get some sort of correctional supervision regardless of the political climate. When Ronald Reagan took office, 0.9% of the population was under correctional supervision. That figure has continued to rise. When crime began to fall in 1992, it stood at 1.9%. In 2003 it was 2.4%. Crime has dropped, but criminality has continued to rise.

This doesn't matter to the middle and upper classes, because we figured out how to deal with it. Partly we created enclaves where criminals have a harder time getting at us, and instead must be content with preying on their own neighbors. But mainly we locked 'em up, a radical change from the 1960s and 1970s. Consider this statistic: The ratio of prisoners to crimes that prevailed when Ronald Reagan took office, applied to the number of crimes reported in 2003, corresponds to a prison population of 490,000. The actual prison population in 2003 was 2,086,000, a difference of 1.6 million. If you doubt that criminality has increased, imagine the crime rate tomorrow if today we released 1.6 million people from our jails and prisons."

That's a joke right? Even if she did assault him, I can't imagine any jury convicting her or awarding custody to him.

I think discreet occasional adultery, or longer term afairs if the other party knows how to keep their mouth shut and defers to the legal spouse, is hardly the biggest crime in the world. But massive whoring around in such an incompetent way for so long deserves contempt. He's dug his own hole, let him dig himself out.

I will mention that there's something sort of off about the whole story. I can imagine a few possibilities that make sense (since the official story doesn't).

1. She'd known about his inability to keep his dick in his pants for a while and she'd made ultimatums and he'd made promises to stop before that he didn't keep. As a general rule, women don't resort to violence as a first reaction to adultery. There's a straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back feel about her reactions.

2. He's been trying to get out of the marriage for a while and assumed once he drove her away he could keep it low profile in the press (ha ha fat chance).

3. He's really seriously fucked up mentally or neurologically. Other things I've read indicate a socially retarded side that has no idea how to deal with other human beings. I almost wonder if there's going to be a suicide attempt. It would fit in well enough with some of the other behavior.

There is uncomfortable truth in Tiger Woods actions.

First, he acted all along (this was apparently a long-term thing predating and continuing his marriage/courtship) like every other Black Athlete and Rapper.

Erase the language choices (Woods talks in standard English) and his words sound just like P Diddy's. Woods actions are indistinguishable from most rappers and Black Athletes.

Either cultural or HBD factors make Woods like other rich, choice-available Black men act in a polygamous, high-partner count manner. It doesn't matter if it is a matter of genetics or culture -- the effect is the same since the culture if that is the driver will not change and affects even a guy like Woods who chooses to "act White."

Also note, just like Rappers and Black Athletes, Woods prefers light skinned, pale women. Coco, rapper/actor Ice-T's wife, looks like many of Woods alleged mistresses. It is quite interesting that Black Men who have the choice of any women choose ladies who look from Coco to at best, Beyonce and Rihanna. None like say, Grace Jones or other dark-skinned ladies. Suggesting a strong biological predilection (support for Steve's "Dark Men Fair Women" hypothesis).

Here's the best way to deal with gold-diggers who seek marriage:

"Subject: Craig's List Personals Ad & Reply

What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I'm tired of beating around the bush. I'm a beautiful
(spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I'm articulate and classy.
I'm not from New York. I'm looking to get married to a guy who makes at
least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind
that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don't think
I'm overreaching at all.

Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could
you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around
200 - 250. But that's where I seem to hit a roadblock. 250,000 won't get
me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married
to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she's not as pretty as
I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I
get to her level?

Here are my questions specifically:

- Where do you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics- bars,
restaurants, gyms

-What are you looking for in a mate? Be honest guys, you won't hurt my
feelings

-Is there an age range I should be targeting (I'm 25)?

- Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on the upper east
side so plain? I've seen really 'plain jane' boring types who have
nothing to offer married to incredibly wealthy guys. I've seen drop dead
gorgeous girls in singles bars in the east village. What's the story
there?

- Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows - lawyer, investment
banker, doctor. How much do those guys really make? And where do they
hang out? Where do the hedge fund guys hang out?

- How you decide marriage vs. just a girlfriend? I am looking for
MARRIAGE ONLY

Please hold your insults - I'm putting myself out there in an honest
way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I'm being up front
about it. I wouldn't be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn't
able to match them - in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a
nice home and hearth.

And here's the response to the above ad:

THE ANSWER
Dear Pers-431649184:

I read your posting with great interest and have thought meaningfully about your dilemma. I offer the following analysis of your predicament.
Firstly, I'm not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your bill; that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here's how I see it.

Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a crappy business deal. Here's why. Cutting through all the B.S., what you
suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring my money. Fine, simple. But here's the rub, your looks will fade and my
money will likely continue into perpetuity...in fact, it is very likely that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won't
be getting any more beautiful!

So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation accelerates! Let me explain, you're 25 now and will likely stay pretty
hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in
earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you!

So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy and hold...hence the rub...marriage. It doesn't make good business sense
to "buy you" (which is what you're asking) so I'd rather lease. In case you think I'm being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It's as simple as that. So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage.

Separately, I was taught early in my career about efficient markets. So, I wonder why a girl as "articulate, classy and spectacularly beautiful"
as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I find it hard to
believe that if you are as gorgeous as you say you are that the $500K hasn't found you, if not only for a tryout.

By the way, you could always find a way to make your own money and then we wouldn't need to have this difficult conversation.

With all that said, I must say you're going about it the right way. Classic "pump and dump."
I hope this is helpful, and if you want to enter into some sort of
lease, let me know.

He could have had all the kids he wanted without signing any papers. And after all of this happened he should have told her that if she filed for divorce, he'd have her charged with assault.

I still feel worse for Paul McCartney than for Tiger though.

As to the "socially retarded side," you might find these two video clips with his high school, freshman in college girlfriend interesting. She refers to his having broken up with her through a strange letter rather than speaking with her face-to-face or on the phone. If that is true (she shows the letter in the second part of the video), it might indicate the social retardation you speak of. Of course, this woman's motives can be questioned as much as Tiger's, but my gut instinct tells me she has smarted from what she views as a cowardly and insensitive dumping, and this was her moment to get it off her chest.

Oh, and just as I suspected...she confirms that Tiger was bothered by his father Earl's frequent philandering and with less-than impressive women.

A couple things:

1) Melinda Gates are about equals when it comes to looks, and when it comes to brain power, she does not match him but if you read her bio she is very very intelligent.

2) Woods is completely outmatched by her in the looks department (okay I admit, I am a little jealous that he his the wife he has).

3) As Welmer's article points out Wood's wife is trying to renegotiate the prenuptial? The way things were she already could have walked with millions--why not just walk, or, stay with him if he is truly being forgiven?

4)Also, not that Woods offered her many many millions just to stay married to him for a certain amount of time. What does that say about their relationship and how is that different from being a hooker?

States have been letting people out of prison sooner than they should for decades. This has accelerated in recent years. NMBY keeping areas from building new prisons, endless litigation on the part of inmates, and ever increasing requirements for sentencing creates a situation that requires states to release inmates.

States will let really dangerous criminals go long before they let out mandated sentence inmates. They just label the dangerous ones safe.

Unremarkable student, obese, slurred when he spoke, had a lisp, cried easily, had a gambling problem, insolvent prior to WWII to the point he put the family estate up for sale (a Jewish mining magnate bailed him out), had ghostwriters do most of his writing, lazy sack of shit who took a mid afternoon siesta/passed out, declared he wouldn't work past noon while he was in the army, a drunk, lost the empire, a military failure from the Dardanelles to Narvik to Dunkirk to Crete, intentionally let London get bombed despite having advance warnings so he could draw America into war, bad father, twice a turncoat, bald faced liar, effete, a socialist, delivered half of Europe to Stalin, reneged on Polish treaty, a traitor, and an outright war criminal.

Why on Earth anybody has a whit of respect for that piece of shit is beyond me.

Heck, Truth, that business of "living on top of each other" was a pretty pathetic save, dude. Anyway, if y'all are interested in first hand experiences about how nasty brothers treat their own women go visit http://www.whataboutourdaughters.com. To really curl your hair, search the site for "Dunbar Village" and read how Brutha Al Sharpton And the NAACP tried to spring several black gang rapists and torturers on bail because they were poor disadvantaged and discrIminated-against "yoofs".

Women--any kind of women--black OR white--are dogmeat to the Bruthas. Truth knows that as he knows the back of his own hand, all black men do. Hell, in recent South African research 25% of black SA men anonymously admitted (of their own free will) to being rapists. Knowing this, can anyone be surprised that Mr. Brown (of Brown v. Board of Education) fought all the way to the US Supreme Court to permit his daughters to go to school with young white boys and not young black boys? Can anyone be surprised that our very own Black President wanted the same for his own daughters when he made sure they went to Sidwell Friends instead of PS17 in the District of Columbia?

Oh, a rich man sending his kids to private school? The odds of that must be ASTRONOMICALLY small. I give up, Sport.

Geezus Bob; a troll from STORMFRONT? I rail at you guys for your lack of originality at times but that's a first.

Hell, there has to be some sort of a prize for a guy who gets accused of being everything from Nation of Islam to a Neo-Nazi IN THE SAME CHATROOM!

(I kind of like it though.)

Rail spike it is, then. Those airport metal detectors must be hell for you.

How do you know that "the straw that broke the camel's back' wasn't that Tiger's endless, unprotected philandering finally succeeded in passing along an STD to Elin? If she is not philandering, as well, (and there is no evidence that she is, or ever was, during the course of the marriage,) then the only way she could have gotten it was through him.

I'm trying to think of what would make a staid Swede pick up a golf club and smash her spouse with it; it has to be something pretty hairy.

Five years is a long time for a "skank" or a "whore" to stick it out, fellas - five months is more like it - but don't let that stop your misogynistic gossip.

Simple overcrowding isn't the entire story. Japan is exceedingly crowded, yet has lower crime rates than many other first world countries.

Nope. Not merely overcrowding. Depends on WHO the overcrowders ARE.

I like your assessment of Churchill. My sentiments exactly. Now let's go to work on FDR! War criminals, all!

She definitely showed bad judgment in marrying him

She's looking at a payoff of hundreds of millions of dollars. I think "bad judgment" is a bit much.

I'm going to sit here and think through the issue of nannies marrying billionaires, and see if I can come up with a "bad judgment" scenario other than the billionaire winding up a not-billionaire. Assuming no moronic prenup, of course.

Are you insane? She's going to walk away with $300 million. You WISH you made that "bad judgment".

OMG.

She has been humiliated. She's going to be divorced with two children and with two mixed race children at that. Because she has kids, she can never cut off all contact with her ex. She may well be infected something nasty and gross like genital herpes now.

This doesn't sound like a good deal to me at all.

She could have married a rich man who would have stayed faithful to her.

The idea is to be *stay* married to a man.

Steve,

Are you going to say anything to all these guys who are referring to the wronged wife as skank and gold digger?

Again, you'd think *she* was the serial adulterer.

Svigor said...

I'd say the chance she's infected with genital herpes is up around 100%.

I'll take herpes for 100 million Alex!

"She could have married a rich man who would have stayed faithful to her.

No, in reality she probably couldn't have.

1)The chances of marrying a "rich" (wealthy) man are slim

2)The chances of marrying a man who will always be faithful to you are slim.

3)The chances of marrying a man who will be with you "till death do you part" are slim.

The chances of getting all three are tiny. Practically all rich, famous men are divorced, most more than once. This is not a coincidence.

Nordgren could have quite easily been divorced with two kids from a plumber. I see it every day, and if you are honest; so do you.

Instead, she, and her children are set for life barring any extremely rare situations.

Tiger, on the other hand, could have married any blonde.

"Again, you'd think *she* was the serial adulterer."

You can't really be that dense can you?

Nordgren married a negro, it has very to do with "misogyny", (although that is a rampant around here as well) that automatically makes her the lowest form of life on earth.

Glad that I could be of service there, Pollyanna.

How about Hillary Clinton? She actually used government agencies to intimidate women out of going public with their Bill Clinton stories. She seems to have been active in squelching them, making her an enabler and co-conspirator with her husband. The great ride she was enjoying, thanks to her husband, was too good to give up just for something minor like incessant infidelity. Tiger Woods at least paid his bimbos a fair amount of money for the work they did, unlike the cheap and exploitative Bill Clinton who thought he was entitled because he was, well, the great Bill Clinton. Between the two, the Clintons are way the more shameless and grasping. Woods was never elected to anything, he only hit a golf ball around. We expect more from a president; instead we had the royal couple of sleaze for eight years.

> nobody in politics wanting the media to have a grudge against them. <

Yup. Remember the old 19th-Century wheeze: "Never start an argument with a man who buys ink by the barrel."

Is it just me or is Woods a coward and a wimp? Note how he withdrew into total seclusion when this fiasco began. He cannot seem to summon up the courage or the strength to deal with this first real crisis in his life. Contrast this with Letterman. Say what you will about him, but he handled it right and displayed courage and dignity. He addressed the issue squarely. He publicly admitted on national television to his actions. He held nothing back. That does take guts. He has to deal with his wife. His relatives will be watching. He will have to eventually explain all this to his son someday. Letterman didn't act like a little kid who took his ball and went home. He 'manned up'. He grabbed the bull by the horns and dealt with this issue square on. And Woods? He eventually released a few vapid, weasel-worded statements on his website about "transgressions" and asked for privacy. (Fat chance buddy). Woods could have gone to his charity event and shown some dignity and intestinal fortitude but he took a pass. It just goes to show you that behind the carefully constructed media and corporate image there is nothing. He is just an egotistical, shallow, bad-tempered, vapid, self-absorbed jerk with no stones to deal with any kind of adversity at all.

Letterman got a man into trouble with the law for threatening to publicise the truth. Those are not the actions of a man.

I don't really have a problem with what Letterman did, but it's a whole lot easier to publicly admit you sins on national television...when it's your show.

You have not seen Letterman open himself up to a press conference with nasty, bottom-feeding journalists have you?

Tiger Woods does not own his own forum, and this would be his only option.

Anonymous said...

"Letterman got a man in trouble with the law who was trying to publicize the truth"...

WRONG! This is disingenuous. The man was a blackmailer. And he got HIMSELF in trouble with the law when he tried to extort 2 million dollars from Letterman.

"Letterman has his own show and Woods does not"... {TRUTH}

You can't be serious. Woods could have easily arranged to have been interviewed on a one on one basis by any number of distinguished journalists. He simply is unable to deal with the situation because of his profound character flaws.

Truth said...

A "one on one interview" with a distinguished journalist, is not quite going on stage and making 45 seconds of infidelity jokes in front of YOUR audience, that came to laugh anyway...before switching to Sarah Palin, is it?

How is my characterisation wrong? Since when did blackmail suddenly become "extortion" anyway? No one put a gun to Letterman's head. Blackmail simply shouldn't be illegal and having people who blackmail you jailed doesn't demonstrate anything in the way of nobility. If anything it makes you worse than the blackmailer, by *far*.

The idea is to marry a man who is basically monogamous and then keep careful tabs on him and the family finances.

Where does the money go? Have Skype turned on in his room to see that he sleeps alone at night. Have his bodyguard report to you. Even though it is a great hassle with the children, spend every weekend with him wherever he is. And so on.
