Julian Castro: The Great Hispanic Hype

I've been saying for a half dozen years in various ways that, just as a George W. Rush would never have been considered Presidential Timber because his father hadn't been President, Barack Obama could never have achieved Presidential Timberhood without his father being black, as he emphasized in the first 390 words of the state legislator's 2004 Democratic convention keynote address. Obama is a fine fellow, but in a life of numerous opportunities, he'd never put together the kind of sustained organizational accomplishment that one expects in somebody being talked about for the Presidency. Without that speech about his parents' "improbable romance," he's a nobody.

This has not been a popular notion on either the left or the right. The right loves far more complicated explanations of Obama than that he's a nice articulate fellow promoted out of the affirmative action impulse. The left scoffs. I always hear objections like this:

"He didn't get elected because he's black, he got elected because he beat John McCain!"

"And how did he get into position to beat McCain?

"He beat Hillary!"

"And how did he get in position to beat Hillary?"

"Everybody was talking about him!"

"And why was everybody talking about him?"

"He, uh, gave this speech in 2004 ..."

The press frenzy over Julian Castro's keynote address tonight gives us an opportunity to see how everybody gets my logic when it's played forward. The media is full of stories about how Castro could become the first Hispanic President because giving this speech eight years ago was how Obama got started on the road to being the first black President.

A little more about Castro. Like Obama, he admits he's a beneficiary of affirmative action, even giving the SAT score that got him into Stanford (1210 old style, equal to about 1300 today -- the same as George W. Bush's score, by the way).

The job of mayor of San Antonio is almost wholly ceremonial. San Antonio has a city manager style of government, with a $355,000 per year city manager hired by the city council. Castro only gets paid about $4,000 per year to do whatever it is he does.

The reason Castro can afford to have his fake job is because Democratic power broker Mikal Watts, a John Edwards-style plaintiff's attorney, gave him and his identical twin brother a huge amount of money for a "referral."

Obama is a fine fellow? Steve, enough. The guy is a spoiled brat and an arrogant prick. He made a punch line of the Special Olympics in a nationally televised interview:

How can anyone watch this dude and still like him?

George W. Rush... Who dat?

I blame Colin Powell. If he had run in 1996 or 2000, he would have won (and probably would've been a pretty good president).

After 4 or 8 years of an Eisenhower Republican black president, the Democrats would have absolutely no motivation to pick the second black president over the first female president. Nobody roots for Buzz Aldrin, its the first guy who counts.

Bush would never have been elected had his dad not been president, and Obama never would have been president had his father not been black, however there are more than a MILLION times more Americans with black parents than president parents, so Obama had WAY more competition to become president than Bush did, so Obama's achievement is far more impressive.

Hillary was only a leading candidate because she's a woman AND because she's the wife of a president, so in a way she's a far more appropriate target for derision than bush and Obama combined.

Both Hillary and Obama were both historical candidates. The tie breaker was really oprah, both black and female, and statistically tied with Hillary as the most admired woman in America. That endorsement netted him a million votes, won him Iowa and the black vote (which he initially was losing to Hillary) and handed him the Dem nomination. Once he had the dem nomination in a Democrat year, his presidency was inevitable.

The difference is Obama put his blackness forward and always made it clear that it is the most important thing about him. By contrast, Bush downplayed his father; it was his opponents, starting with Ann Richards, who constantly harped on it.

If some fact about you is used by your enemies to score points against you, it generally understood not to be an advantage.

Bush was lt into the White House as a legacy admit, Obama was let in as an AA admit. At this point I think the country's done with both types. Castro, Villaraigosa & Booker are all too late. If the Democrats nominate another AA candidate it will just show how shallow they've become.

Is Romney a real leader, or will he just spend his 4 years pushing the open borders/lower-taxes-for-rich-folk plan that's sinking the GOP and country both?

"however there are more than a MILLION times more Americans with black parents than president parents, so Obama had WAY more competition to become president than Bush did"

Subtract all the blacks raised in black homes in Harlem or Detroit who would scare off the Nice White Lady Democratic Party base. Obama's luck was an having an unfrightening temperament, and an SAT score slightly above the white average.

"Both Hillary and Obama were both historical candidates. The tie breaker was really oprah, both black and female..."

Yeah: race or gender? We were all on the edge of our seats wondering which one Okrah would side with.

"Obama is a fine fellow."

What is this Mr. Nice Wasp shtick? A fine fellow? Other than his love of golf, what does Sailer like about Obama? His appointment of Sotomayor, Kagan, Holder, and rest of gang? His giant ego and Chicago politics? His many lies and playing to the liberal Jewish elite? His amnesty of illegals?

Why does Sailer feel compelled to say Obama is a 'fine fellow'? It's so much like Bush saying he was hurt when Kanye West said 'Bush hates black people'? Does Sailer feel compelled to prove, just like the GOP, that he's not a 'racist' and likes black people?

Obama and his ilk are out to destroy Sailer and his folk, but Sailer is saying Obama is a 'fine fellow'. Does Sailer even know that he's a victim of a blacklist from both liberal Jews and neoconservative Jews? Of course, it's not an official blacklist as during the 'McCarthy era', but then, the current blacklist is all the more dangerous because its unofficialness has fooled a lot of people that it doesn't exist.

A man of Sailer's caliber and knowledge should be one of the leading commentators on the political and cultural scene. But he's not allowed to show his face in the MSM because Jews--and blacks--are convinced he's an 'evil racist'. He can't even get a gig at mainstream conservative publications because neocons waged a total war on paleocons and hbd crowd.
So, while total idiots like Rich Lowry, Tucker Carlon, and SE Cupp serve as 'voices of the right', Sailer can only write for online publications like Taki and Vdare.
Not due to lack of talent but due to the blacklist enforced by MSM.
Indeed, Obama, the guy who hung around Ayers and Wright can be president, but Sailer, because of his association with HBD and Vdare, cannot even write for National Review.
Sailer should be mad as hell, as when Jews were pissed when Wasp country clubs didn't let them in, but Sailer is playing Mr. NICE Wasp saying 'Obama is a fine fellow'.

I wonder whose place Obama and Castro took and what that better qualified person would have done with the education...

If the Democrats nominate anyone with an Hispanic name or connection in 2016, are liberals physically able to to not vote for him, no matter what? They would feel as if they were voting against their values.

And in a sense, they would be.

Anon, we don't know Obama's SAT's - not a clue. My bet is that the Verbal is about 700 old score - enough to do well at Columbia and Harvard when there's no math and science requirements left - and 500 (likely less) Math. Any more than that and he could have AA'd himself into a way better school than Occi. But the numbers were't released because that SATM starts with a "4," and even liberals know what that means.

Sailer is trying to distinguish himself from crazy people like you.

Obama is not very smart -- clue #1 being his considerable student debt which he complained about all the time. Had he been smart, his LSAT and SAT scores would have been so high, also his grades, that he would have gotten as a Black man with exotic, Kenya-Kennedy (basically the analog to the Kennedy family in Kenya) connections a full ride with EVERYTHING paid for.

That he spent years sweating the payment of the debt as a Black man with exotic connections ought to tell you he was not smart enough for Harvard or Columbia to invest a full ride in.

I debated Mikal Watts in high school several times in the one-on-one format known as L-D, after the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858. My record against him was something like 5-1, but that one was the one that counted - the winner (Mr. Watts) qualified for NFL Nationals. He was a very sharp guy and not terribly cocky.

Now he is making $40m in just one 18 month period, and I'm a housewife.

Oh well!

I'm glad Steve doesn't seem to "hate" Obama. Not because the President deserves a kid glove treatment, but because it makes Steve's take downs more objective.

1370 SAT and didn't have a prayer at Stanford. Hell didn't have a prayer at my own state's flagship public university. Disgusting.

I for one would like to hype the looks of Julian Castro's wife and his twin brother Joaquin's girlfriend. They are both hispanic as well, and both are stunningly beautiful.
