Rielle Hunter

Just a reminder as everybody has fun with the interview given by Rielle Hunter, the mother of former Presidential candidate John Edward's out-of-wedlock baby: She is also a major character, under the name Alison Poole, in novels by fairly major novelists, Jay McInerney and Brett Easton Ellis: the Alma Mahler of the Tin Age.

Her father's horse-electrocution racket was the inspiration for Season 4 Episode 9 of The Sopranos, which gave us this immortal image.

In her defense, she looks like she'd be a fun chick to party with.

And I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Edwards preferred her company to his wife's.

She seems like a dip.

But she also seems to have had a remarkable impact on a lot of men who don't have any trouble drawing women, so maybe she comes across better in person.

There's supposedly a sex tape of her and John Edwards:

She also apparently has a list of 34 men's names called "The Slut Club."

Go figure.

In the Jay McInerney novel, she tells men she has slept with that she's pregnant and that she needs money for an abortion when she just needs money.

You don't necessarily need a high IQ to be a muse (though a low animal cunning helps).

It certainly would be interesting to find out the IQ's of Cleopatra, Agrippina the Elder, Mata Hari, Pamela Harriman, et al.

I'm guessing what distinguishes some of them is sociopathy rather than IQ. (Not saying this is the case with Hunter, even if her father may have been one.)

I personally find Elizabeth Edwards more interesting than Rielle Hunter, although when I was younger I may have felt the opposite.

When discussing horse criminals one should never forget Silas Jayne. I think of him as the Oskar
Dirlewanger of the horsey set.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. She probably is a lot like daddy.

Given that, if she wasn't a bucket of stewing STDs and random DNA from dozens of guys she might make for a fun evening.

Sexually voracious goes a long way towards sanding out the ugly spots.

I think it was John Derbyshire who wrote that there is a certain type of woman for whom the camera just doesn't convey what they have. He gave Patti Harrison as an example. Hunter must be another one.

"animal cunning" is just as valid a form of intelligence as "high IQ" is. Often more effective.

I suspect she's pretty charismatic in person.

A friend of mine has done the "I am pregnant and need money for an abortion" routine;I dont think its a s uncommon as most would assume. It doesnt make the girl a psycho. I think a woman might feel after she has slept with a man that she is entitled to a favor, however unwitting the guy is. And the guys did pony up. Sometimes it is better to give than to receive...And give they did, with a joy to rival any elderly lady making her Sunday offering.(Who is the patron saint of close calls?)

It seems to me that this is another heredity versus environment issue. Moderns accept the process of "falling in love" as natural. That is to say it is programmed into us as a result of evolution. Yet we also seem to regard marital infidelity as not natural but rather as something that just happens to the weak and wicked.

Until just a few decades ago, before public health, the life expectancy everywhere was about 36. It was even less for women because of childbirth. In such a world swearing "till death do us part" wasn't all that difficult.

Marital faithfulness was favored as a strategy for improving the survival of the little critters you would spawn. Kids do better if they have a father and a father's income - but not forever. After a while there comes a time when a man's best chance at producing a lot of surviving kids is best served by making some more babies.

So a man is programmed to fall in love at 18 and programmed to fall out of love at - say - 28.

Infidelity is normal, natural and adaptive. I hate John Edwards because he is a scumbag medical malpractice lawyer not because of his stepping out on his dying wife. That's just nature.

This horse-murdering stuff - it's fiction, isn't it?

No, it's not.

The Wikipedia page links to the old story at Sports Illustrated.

That's the milieu which this chick came out of.

[PS: May I assume that everyone is clear on the fact that her birth name was actually DRUCK?

Just like Bernardine Dohrn's birth name was in fact OHRNSTEIN?

Bernardine Rae Ohrnstein.

Lisa Jo Druck.]

No.

Most of the difference was in high infant mortality: in many environments, most people who made it to 15 lived to 60 or more. Bushmen did.

I have heard this falsehood a million times - does some text make this claim?

Maybe it's a pagan thing:

"The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."

Let me see if I follow your logic: Hunter's maiden name was Druck, which is Germanic-sounding; therefore, she's a Jew. Makes sense. After all, it's not as if there are many non-Jews in America with German ancestry who might also have Germanic-sounding names. And who doesn't know a Jewish girl named Lisa Jo? Back when Druck was born, that was a more popular Jewish name for girls than Rachel or Sarah.

It varies. Blacks are the most promiscuous, most likely to cheat on their spouse, and feel the least guilt about those proclivities. Asians are the least likely to be promicuous, cheat, and feel the most guilt about extra-marital sex despite their relative good behavior. Whites are in the middle.

These just-so-stories are rife in the "seduction community".

Some unsolicited advice: these stories, with no data cited to back up the theories within, reveal far more about the story-teller than they do evolution or our past.
More unsolicited advice for "PUAs" who blame the state of society on women because women "choose the men": Steven Goldberg wrote the book, "Why Men Rule", yes, "Men", a 1993 revised edition of his 1977 book, "The Inevitability of Patriarchy". Read it. Also read Phillip Longman's "The Return of Patriarchy".
http://www.newamerica.net/publications/articles/2006/the_return_of_patriarchy

"Patriarchy may enjoy evolutionary advantages, but nothing has ensured the survival of any particular patriarchal society. One reason is that men can grow weary of patriarchy's demands...Patriarchy may have its privileges, but they may pale in comparison to the joys of bachelorhood in a luxurious society -- nights spent enjoyably at banquets with friends discussing sports, war stories, or philosophy, or with alluring mistresses, flute girls, or clever courtesans...
Women, of course, also have reason to grow weary of patriarchy, particularly when men themselves are no longer upholding their patriarchal duties."

James Druck was apparently not Jewish, since this article mentions that he worked with (and then scammed) Richard Hirsch, "the first Jewish lawyer in Fort Lauderdale," with the implication being that Druck himself was not Jewish.

Apparently you are no fan of the fictional Rose Sayers POV:

"Nature, Mr. Allnut, is what we are put in this world to rise above."

As for the Edwardses and Hunter, they all deserve each other. Not even sure I'd give their spawn a pass, as between nature and nurture, they probably all have the parental taint.

Back to the meth please.

I actually thought the same thing - and also that Edwards would probably be happier if he married her and made another baby or two with her.

One day I was walking was walking my Siberian Husky in the woods. Suddenly she started digging frantically at the base of a tree.Eventually, she pulled out an adult rat, gave it one deadly shake and dropped it back in the hole.

This seems to be an innate doggy thing that's selectively bred to an extreme in the JRT. No one should get a JRT as an apartment dog. This is one breed that's still fundamentally a worker.

Did Elizabeth Edwards Use Donor Eggs?
All signs point to yes.

During the past several months, the image has flickered into our homes with increasing regularity: Following the end of a campaign-trail speech, little Emma Claire Edwards, 6, and Jack Edwards, 4 - both blond and cherubic - joyfully run up to the stage where their dad, Sen. John Edwards, 51, scoops them into his arms. Standing nearby beaming, always, is Elizabeth Edwards, 55.

Do the math, and it's not hard to figure out that Edwards gave birth to Emma Claire at age 48 and Jack at 50. And yet if Edwards used her own eggs, this is all but impossible - a woman's ovaries completely stop producing viable eggs by age 45 in all but a tiny percentage of women...

Averages can be confusing. If lots of people died as infants or young children then lots of other people had to die at an old age to get an average of 36.

Life used to have a lot more hazards then it did now, but the big killer was being a kid. If you made it past age 5 or so, your life expectancy shot way up.
