The Mid-Year iSteve Panhandling Drive

I've got some good content below, but, first ... it's been half a year since the panhandling drive in January, so it's time for me to rattle the tin cup again. I've got some big checks to write over the next couple of months. (Any advice would be appreciated on best ways to buy a used car and how to get the most for my less-than-pristine 1998 Accord.)

It drives the bastards crazy that I can eke out a career on the generosity of my readers writing whatever I think is true, interesting, new, and important. So, you're not just giving me money, your frustrating a lot of people who deserve frustration.

There are, at the moment, three ways to give me money.

You can make tax deductible credit card contributions to me here (then, under "Steve Sailer Project Option" click on the "Make a Donation" button); or fax credit card details here (please put "Steve Sailer Project" on the fax); or you can snail mail checks made out to "VDARE Foundation" and marked on the memo line (lower left corner) “Steve Sailer” to:

VDARE Foundation
P.O. Box 211
Litchfield, CT 06759

Second: You can send me an email and I'll send you my P.O. Box address.

Third: You can use Paypal to send me money directly, either by just using any credit card or if you have a specific Paypal account.

Or, if that link doesn't work, just click on the Paypal "Donate" button on the top of column to the right. (I have no idea why these links stop working. It's very frustrating.)

If you want to use your credit card, click "Continue" on the lower center-left to fill in your credit card info. If you have a Paypal account fill in your Paypal ID and password on the lower right of the screen.

I'll try to get the Amazon donation link working in a day or two, but, in the past, Amazon has been limited to $50 (hint, hint) and tends to stop working as soon as I've collected more than a pittance.

Thanks. I appreciate it, deeply.

"fatal failure" on both paypal links.

You lose quite a lot of goodwill (and money) because of that anti-semitic itch of yours. I wonder if it pays up in some other way

Dear Mr. Sailer !

1. I love your work.

2. I am still waiting for you to watch, and to comment on, "Precious".

3. No grudge if you will censor out this post.

Your truly, Florida resident.

Which method works best from a small island in the Atlantic? Credit card?

Steve,

I think it's time you "go Gladwellian" already. You could probably land a big time position as a reformed racist. Liberals love them, i.e. Robert Byrd.

Good advice for buying a new (but applies to almost any) car.

I've always bought used cars from private parties -- much cheaper that way. What you do is agree on a price (often, people will accept less if you pay in hard cash -- just seeing the bills can make them want to seal the deal immediately), then take the car to a reputable mechanic for a diagnostic, which shouldn't cost too much.

If it's in good shape, pay in cash, transfer title, and you're done. The three times I've used this method to buy cars it's worked perfectly for me, and I saved a pile of money.

I'd only be careful not to tell them you have the cash on you (if you want to do it that way) until you've had the opportunity to check the sellers out. I've both bought and sold cars with hard currency, and it seems best to me, but there are obvious risks there. A cashier's check will suffice if you're worried about that.

I've never been much for charity, but if I had money I'd give some to you (I'm a broke college student).

paypal link not working

Steve, why don't you have a bar graphic showing the money you've raised, like they do at counterpunch or antiwar. It'd be motivating. If you're worried about privacy, you could just make the numbers up. Anyway, I don't have any money, but if I ever do I will gladly send some of it your way. That's an anonymous IOU you can take to the bank!

I don't see the "Steve Sailer Project Option" at the first link.

You mean perhaps there are more Indy Republican Jew-haters than Indy Republican Jews? Please make a distinction between constructive criticism of Jews (what Steve occasionally does) and mindless Jew hate (what you apparently assume from anyone unable to improvise on demand a glowing testimonial about the Chosen People). We actually can all get along, here.

I'm more inclined to withhold my donation until Steve stops writing about goddam soccer.

ok so I'm confused:

1. VDARE "give 200 get Steve's book" link: PayPal won't accept my card, popup window darkly suggesting I might have a bad credit rating

2. more generic VDARE payment link: in this case 200 seems like it would go through, but would it go to Steve? and would I get a book?
"This credit card transaction will appear on your bill as "VDARE FOUND"." -- no mention of Steve

3. more specific Steve Sailer payment links: extremely terse failure message

it's too bad because of I've had a little to drink, and I'm feeling a little rich, so I'd be ready to part with a few more hard-earned €uros than customary, but the traditional pranksterish iSteve-panhandling-"pay link fail" barrier is confusing me into paralysis

we'll get there somehow

Write a book. Make it a collection of posts or whatever. Could be a crappy job if you are lazy. slap a fancy cover on it. Get SOME real publisher (not vanity) to run it. You won't make money like Glenn or Bill, but you'll pull in more then Derb.

As has been said, private party is the best way to get a good deal. Also, selling your car privately is the best way to get money for it. If you do go to a dealership, do not tell them you are trading it in. Tell them your plan for it so they believe you. Low ball them. Show your interest and then walk away. Tell them you have cash in the bank and are ready to buy now. Go at the end of the month. Once you have agreed on a price, tell them you want to trade in your car. Now you will see what they will actually give you for it. You will be offended. You will probably then want to sell it privately.

Also, right now the market on 2-3 year old cars is not good because thrift is in. People want to save money by avoiding a new car price tag. However, the dealer incentives to keep the factories running mean that there are lower interest rates available for new car purchases. That's if you want to buy with a loan. The problem with a loan is that you are expected to carry full coverage insurance. Full coverage insurance makes the whole proposition less attractive.

Anon is right. Whatever you write, give it a name that isn't cringe-inducing. Calling a halfrican a "Half-Blood Prince" was a hyooge mistake. I wouldn't want it on my bookshelf.

In keeping with the current what'll the world be like in x years, how about "Demography is Destiny: Steve Sailer's Guide to the coming challenges and opportunities of..." I'd love to find read a book about the old/NAM storm by someone who isn't a pollyanna or a armageddon fruitcake. You could even make it seem a bit hopeful, with chapters like "Our Mexicans isn't Learning: why we need to stop exporting jobs to China so Hispanics can have something useful to do."
