What It Takes

And above the Winners Class, there's the Bloomberg Interns Class. From the NYT:
List of Interns Offers Glimpse of Bloomberg's Orbit

They are the offspring of boldface names, like Lloyd C. Blankfein, the chief executive of Goldman Sachs; Peter G. Peterson, co-founder of the Blackstone Group; and Laurence A. Tisch, who was a hotel mogul and chief executive of CBS.

They enjoyed a comfortable childhood and, as it turns out, a coveted summer job: They all landed internships at New York’s City Hall under Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, according to a list obtained by The New York Times through the Freedom of Information Act.

Of course, it is not unusual for young people with connections to win choice internships in all kinds of workplaces.

But the records offer a glimpse inside the social and power circles of the Bloomberg administration, which has accommodated dozens of young people with connections to the mayor’s friends, business associates and government appointees for the prestigious, if unpaid, slots.

Take Jacob Doctoroff, whose father, Daniel L. Doctoroff, was deputy mayor and is now the president of Bloomberg L.P. He had an internship in 2002. He was in the eighth grade. "It was either that or going to summer camp,” Jacob Doctoroff said in an interview.

Now an undergraduate at Yale, he recalled enjoying his stint at the mayor’s office of management information systems. “I truthfully couldn’t tell you how I got the internship,” he said. “But you’d be working with a bunch of 35- to 45-year-olds, and you didn’t have a sense that you were in an internship program.”

The mayor’s office is not eager to share information about who gets the internships and took three months to furnish the list, after the Freedom of Information Act request and repeated follow-up messages. ...

Career counselors view the appointments, which are primarily summer stints, as plum résumé enhancers, partly because of Mr. Bloomberg’s stature. ...

Luke Russert, son of Tim Russert, the “Meet the Press” host who died in 2008, worked at City Hall during summer 2007. In an interview, Mr. Russert said that he juggled two internships that summer — one at the mayor’s office, the other at NBC, working for Conan O’Brien.

Was told by a Navy colleague of mine going to high level MBA school. "I had heard of the old boy network--what I did not realize is that there was an old MONEY network. You'd see these people in class that couldn't hack the work, but came from families with lots of money...avoided them in group projects." Was an awakening for him, coming from a background as a Naval Officer where such issues of class were not present.

Moderate Ashkenazi Jewish nepotism is rational. Normally, the problem with nepotism is that you sacrifice too much in competence for what you gain in trustworthiness, but the AJ IQ distribution eliminates that disadvantage. There are far worse evils than city government offering internships to competent 8th graders.

The real issue is that the WASP elite seriously needs to raise its game. Because of their much higher numbers, the WASP right tail should not be disadvantaged relative to AJs. But they still, as a group, don't seem to care about their own future.

Were the days of being hired for NYC jobs by Tammany Hall any better?

At least these interns doen't expect to be paid much.

Here's a way of reducing the deficit. Hire the useless offspring of rich people for useless jobs in government at intern wages.

In the years when my father was still working as a professor, he got a taste (vicariously, as it were) of America's Old Money at first hand, when one of his students became, I believe, the first Australian-born individual ever to obtain a philosophy lectureship at Yale.

Within months this Australian had resigned in disgust from the position. And naturally everyone wanted to know why he'd thrown away such a plum gig.

Dad, in his folksy fashion, asked the fellow: "Were there too many blacks?". No, the response came: an excess of blacks wasn't the problem. Instead, the problem consisted of too many useless white rich kids. Every time the lecturer gave a C-minus to the essay of some near-illiterate young WASP aristo, the young WASP aristo would complain to his daddy, who, of course, was on the governing board. The daddy would make dark threats of ceasing to offer further financial help to the college if his darling boy wasn't given at least an A. So it went, again and again; and eventually the lecturer grew sick of it. I'm talking about 25 years ago, but I daresay that Old Money is still creating similar situations in Ivy League colleges now.

This is not a problem if Old Money and its opportunities are:

A. Not embedded in Government, i.e. Andrew Carnegie, or John. D. Rockefeller, or so on.

B. There are plenty of other opportunities for the White middle and working classes.

C. There is not an explicit old-money alliance with Non-Whites to keep working/middle class Whites from being competitive threats.

This is a huge bone of contention for the upwardly striving White middle class in the outer Boroughs with ambitions to move upward. It slams the glass ceiling shut.

History suggests this will be a move that will have its price.

I think the real problem the WASP elite face is lack of competition, perhaps since the Armada, and as far as I can tell as an amateur especially since the systemic implementation of Newton's calculus throughout anglo institutions. England, Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand. All other elite ethnic cohorts might as well call themselves the "Washington Generals".

It makes sense for Wasps to occasionally treat jews, etc. as a threat or a role model to keep from getting lax. But organizational competence is THE competence, it seems to me, and there's no real competition that I see. With history as a guide I'd say no competition on the scale of centuries.

It's a way which would have been instantly famliar to aristocrats throughout hstory.

Tne typical HBD fan has the quaint belief that the typical Jew sits arond doing quantum mechanics and string theory for recreation.

I know a lot of "typical Jews" who work on Wall Street. If they possess towering intellect, they keep it very well hidden.

"Moderate neoptism" is still rational, for everyone, but not because of IQ.

The problem does still exist, but the "Old Money" which flows to Yale and Harvard is not WASP, it's Jewish. As is the governing board.

Elite WASPs do care, they have simply decided to ally with Jews and other high IQ ethnics and make a break with average - low IQ protestant whites. WASP/Jewish intermarriage is very common in New York and Boston. Elite American Jews have adopted huge swathes of WASP culture. Jews now sail and golf, WASPs eat bagels, go to therapists and try to be more emotionally open with their children. Everyone's happy.

Like I keep repeating - the old racial/ethnic paradigms (white, black, Jew, etc.) are becoming irrelevant. We are entering an age where high IQ/high achieving people are breeding their own "race", i.e. "an extended family that is inbred to some degree". This is probably the natural result of pushing "meritocracy." The idea of "white solidarity" is a biological dead end.

I don't notice so much that they are Jewish (the interns) as that they are mostly children of bigwigs from the financial sector. I think the latter fact is more salient, but then I'm not one who frets about the ZOG (fantasy), either.

EEOC not involved - as this is not employment per se - unpaid.

Kinship, co-ethnic, and class preference networks exist. Question: what is the best way to deal with this if you are not on the receiving end of the largesse?

The only suggestions I've seen from the WN side are 1) find ways to make being white more 'fun' and appealing, so that more whites are drawn to that element of their self-identity rather than drifting into leftist (but cool!) modes of being, and 2) focus on intensely Euro-origin forms of cultural expression, such as Scandinavian heavy metal.

Jews in early/mid 20th century America faced this problem - being shut out of country clubs where the real business deals were made over handshakes, etc. They chose to build their own, competing clubs, sparing no expense. Being shut out of the old money banks, like JP Morgan...so they started Goldman Sachs.

They also (and I can find no evidence that this was a grand strategic plan directed by some sort of cabal, but rather the same general good idea reached independently by a lot of people and civic/religious organizations) fostered a sense of Jewish identity and cohesiveness, which was not hard to do as a rich, but outsider, group.

I think there is some merit in studying these tactics, but the essential problem is that despite the mass of evidence to the contrary, average whites don't FEEL (yet) like an outsider group, so there's no real impetus for them to organize. Tea partiers notwithstanding.

Correct. The smokescreen they use to cover this fact is to pretend they ARE the smart whites and all others are hillbillies.

I am sure I have missed many. How do you think they got these jobs? These are the most coveted jobs in the country.

The governing board of Yale (called the Yale Corporation) is not "Jewish". Out of 19 members, 8 are Jewish, less than a third. That's not surprising, since 40 years ago, a large percentage of students at top universities were Jewish. In the not too distant future, there might be more Asians than Jews on the board.

Might you be the guy pushing the "Jews are WASPs" thing at Mangan's recently? Just wondering.

Yeah, Jews are WASPs, sure. That's why Jews drag WASPs so often in their movies it's become part of "the Narrative." That's why Jews are so busy attacking white America, but never criticize their own ethnic past...because they're sooooooo much like WASPs. The parallels are obvious: all that energy put into explicit tribalism by both groups, the ethnostates, etc. Heck, that's why WASPs are making such inroads into the Israeli elite.

They're opposites, wake up already.

The only suggestions I've seen from the WN side are

How about repealing or striking down as unConstitutional laws that prevent whites from forming their own communities? Self-determination and freedom of association would probably be a good start.

Tough to know how interested people really are in preserving themselves when it's illegal and constantly attacked by the mind control machine (mass media). We know what Soviet man would've said about his masters with a commissar looking over his shoulder.

I always appreciate my readers' financial help. There are a few ways to support my work:

First: You can mail a non-tax deductible donation to:

Steve Sailer
P.O Box 4142
Valley Village, CA 91617-0142

Second: You can make a tax deductible contribution via VDARE by clicking here. (Paypal and credit cards accepted, including recurring "subscription" donations.) UPDATE: Don't try this at the moment.

Third: send money via the Paypal-like Google Wallet to my Gmail address (that's isteveslrATgmail.com -- replace the AT with a @). (Non-tax deductible.)

Here's the Google Wallet FAQ. From it: "You will need to have (or sign up for) Google Wallet to send or receive money. If you have ever purchased anything on Google Play, then you most likely already have a Google Wallet. If you do not yet have a Google Wallet, don’t worry, the process is simple: go to wallet.google.com and follow the steps." You probably already have a Google ID and password, which Google Wallet uses, so signing up Wallet is pretty painless.

You can put money into your Google Wallet Balance from your bank account and send it with no service fee.

Or you can send money via credit card (Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, Discover) with the industry-standard 2.9% fee. (You don't need to put money into your Google Wallet Balance to do this.)

Google Wallet works from both a website and a smartphone app (Android and iPhone -- the Google Wallet app is currently available only in the U.S., but the Google Wallet website can be used in 160 countries).

Or, once you sign up with Google Wallet, you can simply send money via credit card, bank transfer, or Wallet Balance as an attachment from Google's free Gmail email service. Here's how to do it.

(Non-tax deductible.)

Fourth: if you have a Wells Fargo bank account, you can transfer money to me (with no fees) via Wells Fargo SurePay. Just tell WF SurePay to send the money to my ancient AOL email address steveslrATaol.com -- replace the AT with the usual @). (Non-tax deductible.)

Fifth: if you have a Chase bank account (or, theoretically, other bank accounts), you can transfer money to me (with no fees) via Chase QuickPay (FAQ). Just tell Chase QuickPay to send the money to my ancient AOL email address (steveslrATaol.com -- replace the AT with the usual @). If Chase asks for the name on my account, it's Steven Sailer with an n at the end of Steven. (Non-tax deductible.)

My Book:

My Book:
"Steve Sailer gives us the real Barack Obama, who turns out to be very, very different - and much more interesting - than the bland healer/uniter image stitched together out of whole cloth this past six years by Obama's packager, David Axelrod. Making heavy use of Obama's own writings, which he admires for their literary artistry, Sailer gives the deepest insights I have yet seen into Obama's lifelong obsession with 'race and inheritance,' and rounds off his brilliant character portrait with speculations on how Obama's personality might play out in the Presidency." - John Derbyshire Author, "Prime Obsession: Bernhard Riemann and the Greatest Unsolved Problem in Mathematics" Click on the image above to buy my book, a reader's guide to the new President's autobiography.
