"Dreams from My Aunt: A Story of Race and Immigration"

As suggested by a commenter, here's Jonathan Elias of WBZTV.com in Boston:
Aunt Zeituni: 'The System Took Advantage Of Me'
President Obama's Aunt Speaks Exclusively With WBZ-TV

"If I come as an immigrant, you have the obligation to make me a citizen." Those are the words from 58-year-old Zeituni Onyango of Kenya in a recent exclusive interview with WBZ-TV.

Onyango is the aunt of President Barack Obama. She lived in the United States illegally for years, receiving public assistance in Boston.

Onyango is the aunt of President Barack Obama. She lived in the United States illegally for years, receiving public assistance in Boston.....

In 2004 a judge ordered Zeituni Onyango out of the country, but she never left. She stayed, hiding in plain sight. In 2005 she attended her nephew's swearing in as the junior Senator of Illinois. In 2008 she was invited to, and traveled to D.C. for President Obama's inauguration.

However her nephew, she says, never pulled any strings for her.

"Listen. Obama did not know my whereabouts."

Onyango hired a top immigration lawyer from Cleveland to help fight her case. We asked how she afforded that lawyer, when she claimed poverty.

"When you believe in Jesus Christ and almighty God, my help comes from heaven," she responded.

When asked about cutting in line ahead of those who have paid into the system she answered plainly, "I don't mind. You can take that house. I will be on the street with the homeless."

"To me America's dream became America's worst nightmare," she said adamantly. "I have been treated like public enemy number one."

She is still living in South Boston public housing, unemployed, and collecting about $700 a month in disability, she says. And now, Zeituni Onlyango is in this country legally.

In May 2010, Onyango's case went back before the same judge who ordered her out of the country in 2004. This time she was granted asylum in the United States. The ruling said a return to Kenya might put Onyango in danger.

The Obamas would love to help, but now that he's taken a government job, she's staying home with the kids, and they're paying that expensive private school tuition, they're tapped out. It's a tough economy all over.

With a wink and a nod, the judge tells Obama, "you owe me!"

Did his aunt refer to him as "Obama"? This seems strange to me. Am I missing something?

Definitely. I'll go further and say a narcissistic sense of entitlement runs in the partly inbred extended family of the Obamas.

Which is news to the Kenyan government. Onyango is in no danger in Kenya, and she did not come to the USA fleeing any kind of persecution. This judge should be impeached.

Also, this case proves once again that illegals DO collect welfare benefits. Proof once again that the liberals were lying when they claimed that illegals can't collect welfare.

How is she an "immigrant"? She is an illegal alien. How did she manage to collect welfare? And wouldn't Obama have had enough money to have helped out dear old aunty? This says more about him then her. It is just amazing the sense of entitlement blacks have.

Hope you will print this Mr. Sailer.

Does anybody have an estimate what she is going to cost the US taxpayer. I'm guessing a life expectancy of 82, and totalling up all the benefits she'll receive, I'm thinking about $500,000 is a reasonable low end estimate.

Any other estimates?

The Aunt Zeituni interview is a grand slam for immigration enforcement. It's the equivalent of 10 or 15 Super Bowl commercials, and every bit as riveting.

How can we not like it?

Illegal immigration, welfare abuse, and refugee fraud needed a face, and a voice. A link to the Democratic Party wouldn't hurt, either. Zeituni is all off that, and more.

This says more about him then her.

I wouldn't want to be obligated to support my relatives, potentially indefinitely. And I would feel no such obligation. Now, I might do it, but I would not feel a strong moral obligation to do it. And certainly not indefinitely.

But if he knew about her dealings with the law -- and I find it hard to believe he did not -- he could and should have bought her a plane ticket when she was ordered to leave before.

Won't some kind official put an end to her misery and deport, nay restore, good ol'auntie Zeituni to Mother Africa?

She is still living in South Boston public housing, unemployed, and collecting about $700 a month in disability, she says. And now, Zeituni Onlyango is in this country legally.

The American nightmare experience is looking better each second.

Indeed! And from Uncle Sugar too.

Life seems more like a Tom Wolf Novel everyday. The idea that a sitting president would have an illegal immigrant Aunt living in Boston public housing and giving interviews about it would seem like great vehicle for a plot device in one of his books.

The ridiculous thing is he probably could have set her up quietly and this would have never gotten out. The guy was making good coinc the last five or ten years.

If he was paying her way in some apartment or modest house somewhere, even conservatives wouldn't have given much care since I don't think she's a big chain migration risk.

So you guys think it is okay to exploit thrid worlders and rob them of their wealth but its bad to let them live in a wealthy country?

Have some compassion. The reason we have our rich white life is because we stole stuff from People of Color.

Hey, lay off. She won the lottery. It was a billion-to-one but her nephew was elected President of the United States!

Definitely. I can remember reading The Bonfire of the Vanities in the 1980's and marveling at the Wolfe's creativity in constructing such an outrageous take on America.

I never dreamed that a scant two decades later a far more outrageous situation like this would--or even could--actually come to pass in America. I never thought I would one day see Wolfe's brilliant satire as rather tame compared to the real life outrageousness now forced on us.

And: "The ridiculous thing is he[Obama] probably could have set her[his aunt] up quietly and this would have never gotten out. The guy was making good coinc the last five or ten years."

No, the ridiculous thing is that, from a PR perspective, he didn't have to. This situation is a nuisance to him politically but not, as it should have been, a deal-breaker.

The race card will trump any advantage gleaned from this situation.

That's the opinion of most of the left and a big minority on the right.

This may sound naive, but how can an illegal alien get disability?

That's worth repeating if only to remind everyone just how broken and corrupt US media, government, law, and immigration are.

I know people who think like that. I'm glad she said it. Only think more I could have asked would have been for her to explain why American citizens are obligated to pay for her room and board and everything else.

Then I'd like one of the Kennedys to explain why they don't let her live in their compound.

"So you guys think it is okay to exploit thrid worlders and rob them of their wealth but its bad to let them live in a wealthy country?"

Newsflash, buddy: the folks "exploiting" third worlders are ALSO the ones importing them, but they don't pay for them - they make the rest of us pay for them. By siding with the "poor exploited illegal aliens" you are siding with the ruling class who exploit them.

Exploited or not, though, the third worlders were poor before the West existed, and will be poor long after the West is gone. You only display your own mawkish sentimentality and ignorance by moaning about "exploitation" of the Third World.

"Have some compassion. The reason we have our rich white life is because we stole stuff from People of Color."

You did, maybe. The rest of us have to work for a living. If you feel so compassionate, donate your own time, house, and money to feed and care for these parasites. The rest of us have had enough of your insanity.

Speaking of which, what's the latest on "Back to Blood"?

Suckers!

Wolfe is probably happy he's near the end of his writing career.

After all, when quotidian reality matches the craziest Tom Wolfe novel paragraph for paragraph, what function does Tom Wolfe have as a writer any longer?

You can't be ahead of the curve after the curve has crashed. This is the end of the rainbow. And no pot of gold in sight.

Here's hoping Wolfe goes out with a bang with "Back to Blood."

I thought at first this must be a joke, a piece of satire. But no, it is all true.
What an unbelievably arrogant veteran welfare bum we have here!

I've taken the liberty of passing this on to our expat conservative blog, Ross's Right Angle, in hopes that more and more people will start to understand what gives with your current First Family.

Triage, damnit!

So what if this woman ends up costing the taxpayer half a million during the rest of her life. She is just one person, with a low risk of chain immigration and criminality. Steve writes about lots of other issues, and in the big scheme of things, this has to be one of those that would cost the USA the least. Literally thousands of NAMs getting better university-level opportunities than their grades would warrant, due to quotas and the like? That has got to be a multimillion wealth destruction issue! And so on and so forth with all the other issues that Sailer writes about.
