Obama and his Uncle Omar

From the NYT, as another member of the President's Kenyan clan escapes deportation:
In Reversal, White House Says Obama Did Meet Uncle
By MICHAEL D. SHEAR
WASHINGTON — White House officials on Thursday abruptly changed their story about whether President Obama had ever met his father’s half brother, a Boston man who faced deportation to Kenya after a drunken-driving arrest in 2011.

Drunk driving is an Obama clan theme. Both the President's father and his half-brother David died driving drunk, and his father killed a man in an earlier incident.
Two years ago, White House officials told The Boston Globe that the president had never met Onyango Obama, known as Omar, Mr. Obama’s uncle. But Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, said Thursday that the 2011 statement was incorrect. In fact, the two men lived together briefly while the president was a student at Harvard Law, Mr. Carney said.
The president “had met Omar Obama when he moved to Cambridge for law school,” Mr. Carney said, and “he stayed with him for a brief period of time until the president’s apartment was ready.”
Mr. Carney added: “After that, they saw each other once every few months while the president was in Cambridge, and then, after law school, they gradually fell out of touch. The president has not seen Omar Obama in 20 years and has not spoken with him in roughly 10 years.”
White House officials explained the abrupt change in the story by saying that no one asked the president in 2011 whether he knew his uncle.

If true, that fits a general pattern in the various remaining mysteries about the President's life: the people who would ask Obama questions don't have access to him, and the people who do have access almost never ask him. For example, apparently none of Obama's campaign aides asked him about the man Obama had invited to give the invocation at his Presidential campaign kickoff rally, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, until the day before. Obama had published thousands of words about Wright's influence upon him, and if you read them carefully you'd notice they represented Trouble, but Axelrod and Plouffe really didn't want to think about the subject, much less talk about it with their candidate.

Ironically, discoursing about his life story is one of Obama's favorite hobbies (e.g., his quasi-eulogy for war hero Senator Daniel Inouye, which included Obama's memories of his childhood fascination with motel ice machines).
Instead, Mr. Carney told reporters that White House officials then had simply relied upon the president’s own books and the public record to determine that they had never met.
“Back when this arose, folks looked at the record, including the president’s book, and there was no evidence that they had met,” Mr. Carney said.

Actually, Uncle Omar in Boston is mentioned three times in Dreams from My Father:
- "'Let’s say a son or husband moves to the city, or to the West, like our Uncle Omar, in Boston.'"
- "On the walls were various family artifacts: the Old Man’s Harvard diploma; photographs of him and of Omar, the uncle who had left for America twenty-five years ago and had never come back. ... She asked if I had seen him, and I had to say no."
- "'When my first children, Omar and Zeituni, were born, he bought them cribs and gowns and separate mosquito nets, just as he had for Barack and Sarah.'"

The President's book ends with his visit to Kenya the summer before he started Harvard Law School. In Kenya, he was asked by family members if he knew his Uncle Omar in America. He didn't -- during the time covered in the book -- but then Obama moved in with his uncle later that year, just like Uncle Omar said. That Obama later got to know Uncle Omar well explains why Obama kept mentioning his offstage presence in his autobiography.
“That was what was conveyed. Nobody spoke to the president.” ...  “Nobody had asked him in the past.”

Stanley Kurtz points out that this gives plausible deniability regarding Obama's inconveniently leftist past. But, you also might almost get the impression that the people who know Obama best find him and his twice-bestselling life story kind of boring, and thus avoid giving him excuses to talk about it.
On Tuesday, a judge in Boston ruled that Omar Obama could stay in the United States and apply for eventual citizenship after he testified that he had lived in the country for 50 years, paid income tax and been arrested only once.

Wow, I keep reading in the New York Times about how the Obama administration is rounding up and deporting all the illegal aliens in the country in a ferocious dragnet, even thought I haven't noticed this to be, technically, happening. Maybe the truth is more boring in regard to this, too?

Obama knew the story that he'd never met his drunk-driving POS illegal alien half-uncle was out there (even if he never directly stated that himself). And he knew it was not true. But he never corrected it, despite having a lot of time and numerous chances to do that. To me, that's the same as a lie.

If a man can't get his relatives green cards when he is President of the United States what good is he really? LOL

President Jimmy Carter had his brother Billy to provide Johnny Carson with late night material. The Lightworker has his Uncle Omar. Maybe Uncle Omar will end up with his own brand of beer like Billy did.

"Every can personally passed by Uncle Omar himself."

Actually "Uncle Omar" would be an excellent name for an (inexpensive) liquor, not a beer. If you tied it in with the "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, you could put pictures of fast-moving cars on the label.

Obama's life and family background read like something out of Alice in Wonderland. In a saner world he would never have become president.

We should take it for granted that definitive statements from the White House on anything related to the president are meaningless. No one cares whether they're true or not.

Just two brothers on the down low?

Harry Baldwin is right in his echo of Steve's "noticing" (there's that word again) that Obama's circle is not very curious about him. No one cares if they are true, because only symbolism is true. Obama was packaged as both black and white, elite and common, Christian and Muslim, socialist and free marketer, American and world citizen. The reality doesn't matter. Never did. He has been a blank screen onto which liberals could project their desires while convincing enough others to go along.

Obama and his brother Mark are such careful, intelligent men. (Mark being the more likeable of the two, and perhaps the more intelligent, but less driven.)

It's a fascinating study in X-linkage, and what a man gets from his Dad (Y and autosomals).

I wonder if Paul Walker's uncle had a drinking problem.

What a sad state investigative journalism has slipped to. This story from Obama's history was always out there and no one bothered to look for it until events shoved it into public consciousness.

To compound this journalistic dereliction of duty the press isn't bothering to report that early in Paul Walker's career he had a bit part on an episode of Touched By An Angel where he died as a passenger in a fiery car crash caused by drunk driving. Pretty eerie, huh?

How come we have to do all of this legwork instead of the press? Shouldn't this fact have been included in this story?

Now see, if Obama had wanted to make a more interesting eulogy regarding inouye, instead of motel ice machines, he could've told a personal story of eating Hawaiian Shaved Ice as a child and that that was one thing the departed Senator and he shared, a love of Hawaiian Shaved Ice.

From there, Obama could've gone into a totally cool metaphor about Shaved Ice representing the true spirit of the Hawaiian People (which would by inference include the President's own favorite subject, namely himself).

While on the outside, Shaved Ice can sometimes appear cold, opaque, and a little bitter to the taste. But once you familiarize yourself with it, the Shaved Ice begins to take on a stronger character. One of inner warmth and also of many varieties of color (and hence a cute little ol' diversity implication as well). Just as Daniel Inouye overcame innumerable odds as a Hawaiian, by the end of his life, he had proven his mettle by his inward strength and courage. And of course a lifelong love of Hawaiian Shaved Ice, which of course the President can well relate to since he too, just LOVES Hawaiian Shaved Ice.

Yup, methinks the Hawaiian Shaved Ice metaphor would've been like totally better.

OH! 72nd Happy Pearl Harbor day tomorrow.

Paul Walker was a man who would have been happy to share a bottle of Ripple with Uncle Omar. And if Uncle Omar was driving Paul Walker would be with us today.

Yes, it seems like the alcoholism trait is strong in that side of the family. Barack Obama himself is lucky to have not inherit that.

But, whether or not anyone directly asked him about Uncle Omar's claims of sharing a residence, he remained silent when his underlings said otherwise. That was pretty much a lie.

Of course B. Obama would be embarrassed of a drunken uncle. But he was just a young student in a new city and stayed with his drinking uncle for a few weeks/months many years ago. So?

It would have blown over within days if he had spoken up then. Now? It is a much bigger deal.

Is uncle Omar, like aunt Zeituni, being paid by US taxpayers for all basic needs?

I refuse to believe Obama does not remember a drunken Kenyan drinking 16 airplane bottles of brandy and falling asleep in front of his television.

"POLICE fear thousands of drivers will descend on Kirkcaldy tonight to pay tribute to The Fast and the Furious actor Paul Walker.

Officers warned they will not tolerate anti-social behaviour after more than 900 people said they will be at the event dubbed “2 Fife 2 Furious” in honour of the 40-year-old, killed in a crash in California.

But 3500 more have been invited on social media to cruise along the esplanade, raising safety concerns and fears of congestion.

In Australia and Scotland. So much for that troll's claim that only NAMs were saddened by Walker's death. The Perth rally raised money for Walker's foundation that aids disaster victims, so at least something good is coming out that rally.

The studio is also donating a portion of the proceeds from DVD sales of the most recent F&F film to Walker's charity. If they were smart, they'd release one of the films for one weekend and donate their share of the box office to his charity. Would earn them some goodwill, however they decide to proceed with the franchise.

"Simon Amstell apologises for Mandela comment on Radio 1"

//Amstell said: "What is going on? We're next to 1Xtra, it's so white in here. Mandela would not approve of the situation at the BBC."

When Nick Grimshaw asked why, the guest replied: "Look at all these people in here." Grimshaw answered: "There's a lot of people."

The comedian then said: "Yeah, but look at the segregation that's happened."

He then laughed when the producer of the Breakfast Show, Matt Fincham, said: "I don't think that's the right thing to be saying right now."

Amstell added: "Well, someone had to say it. Mandela would say it if he was here."

At the end of the link Nick Grimshaw said: "Apologies if you were offended by anything that was said earlier." Amstell replied: "Nothing I said was offensive though."//

Mow, white women falsely go nuts about 'racism' and blame white males since that is the moral meal ticket in our society.

Media created this mentality by pushing cause over truth.

OMG, yes, I'm tired of hearing that Rob Ford drove drunk in Florida, smoked crack, kicked a guy out of his seat at a NFL game, got fired as a football coach, etc. If the US news media had half the interest in Obama as Rob Ford they could be accused of at least doing a half-assed job.

The people in Obama's inner circle needn't be all that much interested in his past. They needn't care that he isn't really all that intelligent, or is more interested in being president than in actually doing the job. In fact, they're happy about it. They want a figurehead. It gives more power to them to do what they please, to sell influence, to pay off supporters, and to position themselves for lucrative post-Obama careers. If you're an influence peddler, do you want a president with a sharp mind who maintains control of the office, or do you want a guy like Obama?

The latter, of course.

The special interests who fund campaigns, and who have the power to tilt media portrayals for or against a given candidate, have zero interest in electing a strong, intelligent, capable president. They want men who are compromised (think the Tom Cruise character from "The Firm") and can be manipulated.

That's why we had Clinton, and W, and now Obama. That's why our next president will probably be Hillary or someone else equally ridiculous.

There is no lack for real talent in this country. In the late 1700s/early 1800s, in a country of just 4 million people, we had men like Jefferson, Washington, Hamilton, Adams, and Monroe to draw from. Today we get these clowns. Because that's what the power-brokers want.

It would be an intolerable gap if our national security apparatus did not contact most, or all, of the people the President has had significant contact with during his life. That's a good part of their job. An obvious reason, among others, is to be prepared to find out any skeletons in the closet and thus be on guard against the security assets of unfriendly nations who might try to create blackmail, etc. , from such. There is more to it all, of course. But the odd sense in the matter of President Obama is how really hollow so much of the "information" is about him and how, in the final analysis, so much of it originates in his self serving autobiographies, etc. The fact is--whether by national security inhibitions or other causes--we know far less about him than media regurgitations indicate we do. The fellow has about him an slick and easy inventive core---reality is what he wishes to make it to be in his own selfish interest. Leader?
