Time: Chinese woman says calling Amy Chua racist is racist

Chen, not Chua
From Time Magazine:
Why the Tiger Mom’s New Book Makes You Nervous
When it comes to discussing success in America, we're still afraid to talk about race
By Vivia Chen Jan. 31, 2014

Amy Chua is an easy whipping post. After all, she’s the iconic Tiger Mom who blithely bragged about her extreme parenting methods in her book 2011 Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. Overnight, she became the archetype of the nightmare Asian mom, hell bent on raising uber-achievers at all cost.
I thought Battle Hymn was a humorous, breezy read, but many people (who probably never read the book) were outraged. ... This time, though, Chua is condemned not just as an arrogant elitist and abusive mother but something else: racist.
Suketu Mehta writes in TIME that the book represents “the new racism—and I take it rather personally.” Mehta adds that “the language of racism in America has changed . . . It’s not about skin color anymore—it’s about ‘cultural traits.’”
In a follow-up to Mehta’s article, Anna Holmes argues that the “new racism” in The Triple Package is just a continuation of “the same old racism.” Her verdict on the book: “It’s the same old garbage, in a slightly different, Ivy League-endorsed disguise.”
The tenor of a lot of the criticism has been angry, hostile and extremely personal (Chua seems to get singled out much more so than her husband). And, I think, racist. The fact that some of the slings come from minority group members doesn’t make the criticisms less vicious.
What gives the attacks a distinct racist tinge is that Chua is reduced to a stereotype—a Dragon Lady, of sorts. This time, though, the Dragon Lady is not the evil seducer of old Fu Manchu movies, but the new evangelist of racial superiority. Maureen Callahan writes in the New York Post: “[Chua] used her heritage and all the worst stereotypes of Chinese women — cold, rigid Dragon Ladies.” ...
Chen is the creator and chief blogger of the Careerist and a senior reporter at the American Lawyer. The views expressed are solely her own.

Someone call me racist. I'm the only true racist in the whole world. Race is real, it exists, and racial differences exist. Yes, proud to be racist.

I'm not. Many are afraid because the elite-controlled media, government, and academia threaten people.

Saying 'racist' means 'taboo, taboo, violation, violation, not allowed to talk about that'.

"After all, she’s the iconic Tiger Mom who blithely bragged about her extreme parenting methods in her book 2011 Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother."

I keep hearing this but it's not true. The book is about how 'tiger parenting' worked for girl #1 but didn't with girl #2. It's about the education of Amy Chua that theory and practice are two different things.

I can understand twitter-verse turning everything into a blurb, headline, or simplification, but even long articles do the same, misrepresenting books and ideas.

Comedy is when theory meets practice. I guess tragedy is when practice meets theory.

“It’s the same old garbage, in a slightly different, Ivy League-endorsed disguise.”

So, entire fields of thought are dismissed outright as 'garbage'.
Great intellectual attitude.
We are right, you are wrong. We are gold, you are garbage.
With such attitudes, no wonder PC dominates. Such arrogance.

"cold, rigid Dragon Ladies"

But Chua's personality is hot and passionate. The cold and rigid ones are the neo-puritanical PC commissars who dismiss any heretical idea as 'garbage'.

Though I'm not a fan of Chua--she's obviously a political Lib and a member of the global elite class--, I relish two things about her.

She has a winning personality like Paglia. She is engaging on that level.

She opens up debate about issues and matters that 'polite society' is generally afraid to discuss. She may not do it in the most honest manner--but then, how could she in the current PC climate?--, but she will still notice things enough to start a debate, and intellectualism is about discussion and debate, not about sticking to official truisms and dismissing everything outside it as 'same old garbage'. Also, even the 'old garbage' can have some things of value, as recent revelations about Stephen J. Gould's skull theory proved. It turns out Gould's study was the real garbage whereas the 'old garbage' was true data-wise.

So, even though Chua is a popularizer and something of a self-promoter who will not go all the way, she has guts enough to talk about stuff that makes the ELITES nervous. Though elites pretend to be speaking up for the People, I'll bet most REAL people would want to discuss these matters. It's the elites that want to shut down debate and discussion on these matters because it undermines their own conceited 'progressive' paradigm that protects their priestly privilege in the name of fighting 'white privilege'.

Chua also undermines the BS that 'only whites have feelings of superiority'. She's courageous enough to admit that non-whites too have their victor as well as victim mind-sets. This prolly pisses off many people of color who only wanna play victim to whites.

Anyway, this was bound to happen. The Liberal paradigm had us believe that whites are uniquely evil and white 'racism' prevented non-whites from making it in America. But the fact is there are plenty of non-whites who not only make it but do even better than whites. But this fact was not supposed to be noticed. So, when Aff-act was ended in CA, the narrative was 'white numbers increase, minority numbers decrease', when, in fact, yellow numbers vastly increased. But shhhh about rising Asian enrollment. They are the new 'invisible minority'.

Funny. Libs say Asian women should fight the stereotype of being silent and demure, but they are now telling Chua to shut up and be mouth-binded.

Yesterday I was listening while driving to the official organ of leftist radio - NPR's On Point, which had both Chua and her hubby on to explain their allegedly "racist" attitudes in their book.
The normally meek beta male host Tom Ashbrook vigorously kept pressing them with interjections like "but so-and-so said your book was racist blah blah blah", as though it was some kind of evidence of the same. I believe Mehta might have been mentioned as well as one of the "authorities".

Rubenfeld and Chua, instead of challenging their accusers to explain how their book was "racist", kept pleading innocence and insisting it was all "cultural", highly malleable and, most important of all, not AT ALL biological (!!!). You see, anyone can do it, you just have to want, or perhaps just not be oppressed by the white power structure, to do so.

I would have gained some respect for them if they had stood up for themselves, but no.

A distasteful radio show trial all-in-all, whose only entertainment was provided by the fact that a Joo and "model minority" were accused of being enemies of the people after undoubtedly spending their lives doing the same others (they are Yale law profs, after all). Kind of like when the original Joo-ish bolsheviks and NKVD torturers got the same treatment from Stalin during the purges of the 1930s that they were inflicting on others. What goes around, comes around.

How PC works?

PC LORD: "People of color, stand up and speak up against white gentile privilege."

Chua: "But I notice that Jews and some people of color have lots of wealth and privilege too."

PC LORD: Shut up and off to Siberia!

So, PC isn't about liberating people of color to think and speak freely. It's turning them into obedient dogs to bark accordingly.

It's like Mao's "To rebel is justified."

You better 'rebel' only according to his wishes. If you rebel against him and notice he's a big fat pig with a lot of power, a bullet in your head.

Chua better be pekinese dog than dragon girl.

To be fair, I kind of agree with the analysis that "cultural traits" are the new target of racism. In the 70's and 80's you had Asian token minority characters, now Asians only appear on TV as evil PTA moms, greedy Yuppies and angry store owners (and occasionally cool stoners, but with the implication that they are cool because they reject their native culture). They're typecast in roles which were traditionally reserved for rich whites and bigoted Southerners.

It seems minority/non-minority has stopped being about race. My most recent thought is minority= victim of gentrification, non-minority= gentrifier. But there's probably more going on than that.

- A topic on some East Asian male blogs is "why aren't East Asian guys portrayed as sex symbols or sought after sexual partners in American media?" While many East Asian females are asking "why are we always exotified and eroticised in American media?"

"It seems minority/non-minority has stopped being about race. My most recent thought is minority= victim of gentrification, non-minority= gentrifier. But there's probably more going on than that. "

- Its been this way for a long time. East and South Asians are seen as privileged and not needing financial help here in the US and this has to do with the immigration selection process. We have to pay full university costs and get no leeway on that whatsoever. We are subsidizing so-called "poor" American citizen students. Sometimes our families go completely broke in our home countries, eating only rice and dahl (lentils) twice a day and skipping dinner altogether thus going to bed with grumbling stomachs in order to pay those exhorbitant prices.

Yet we are "privileged" and "don't need help"!!! And worse - subsidizing someone else who's family is transitioning from 200 pounds to 300 pounds EACH, on all the fatty foods they eat!

Well ok, there's a trade off for everything. But now my mission is to incalculate Asian values, family and future-time orientation and proper culture into every American I meet while I'm here.

You bring Kentucky Fried Chicken to our native cities and we bring some class, culture and money to your universities.

They like to mock the Republicans for trying to make inroads with various identity groups but this time they might actually have some success. The republicans only need to pick off one identity group to screw up the Democratic coalition.

The dem coalition is unstable because it features blacks. That worked as long as the coalition consisted of blacks, white liberals and jews. Blacks could get away with their uppity demands because white liberals are the most gullible pushovers who ever lived, and Jews just figure it's a cost of doing business. But as other minorities have flooded the coalition it has started to look very rickety because these groups have much less patience with black bs and the lessened threat perception of white racism means they are less constrained in airing their complaints.

Republicans could probably lure a couple of groups away from the Dem coalition, but imo it'd be stupid to do so without premising it on support for white identity. Let the Democrats be the implicitly pro-black party and Republicans the implicitly pro-white (defending whites' right to a positive identity, promoting American/western culture and standing up for virtues, standards, morality etc.) That'd be a good start.

Fascinating thing about race is that it's only really 2 races that are protected - blacks and Scots-Irish. You can stereotype Asians. TV comedy 2 Broke Girls has an old black man and a young Asian manager. The Asian guy is mocked constantly but the black is a source of constant wisdom and the girls adore him. I've never met blacks like that and noted that people are hypersensitive about anything that's critical of them, moreso than whites-Asians-Hispanics. Maybe they know deep down that their only good at rapping.

You kind of wonder about the cognitive dissonance of "Desis" who brag about their "superior culture" while producing a country that is known worldwide as a literal public toilet--not just by Westerners but by every culture in the world. Complain about the prices of US university tuition--that's rich!!! Why don't you build your own top colleges if you're "culture" is so "superior?"

These "successful" Desis lead the world in:

--Public shitting and peeing
--Murdering their own children if they happen to be girls
--One of the four most racist countries in the world as measured by a recent study
--Human slavery (one of the top countries in human slavery as measured by a recent study)
--Political corruption (measured by Transparency International)
--Gang rapes on public buses
--Bride burnings

"Asian" values? No thanks!!! We Anglo-Saxons did pretty well before the Cultural Marxists destroyed our countries and our culture. And I don't think that even "Hooters" waitresses are so bad when you compare it to a country where women are routinely gang-raped on public transportation or murdered by their own parents or in-laws for the "crime" of being female.

Go clean up the literal walls of human shit in your own country before lecturing us on our "inferior" culture.

She despises white people, especially white women, of whom she is extremely jealous. One of her tricks is that she loves to pretend she's white so she can bash white people and white culture. Also her bragging about her "sane" culture of "wise Asian women" is bullshit, because she loves to brag about picking up black men in bars and having a ho-holds barred sex life (which is probably mostly made up, but it still doesn't "jive" with her comments about American women.)

Diversity principles presume inherent substantive differences between races that justify affirmative discrimination.

Equality principles presume there must be no disparate group outcomes because there are no inherent substantive differences between races.

How can it be racist to conclude that 'diverse' people produce 'diverse' results?

Perhaps it should be suggested that in order to reduce gaps, 'diversity' should be depressed.

What a PC scam!

If the whites of this country disappeared there would be nothing left. All the non-whites would immediately hate each other and fight over everything. They have nothing whatsoever in common. If they had to deal with each other directly the loathing they have for other groups that's just below the surface would really come out; they're just loaded with historical resentments, chauvinism and attitudes of in-group loyalty. As the superior people those of European descent are held to a higher standard and are supposed to be above it all which ends up being their weakness. They fail to look out for their own interests as a group since they no longer perceive themselves as a group.

Non-whites less than 4 generations in America who criticize white societies (rather than return to their own) are racist, dishonest, amoral, self-aggrandizing, chiselers and grifters.

Non-whites who just stand around and let it happen are aiding and abetting. So, basically the lot of them are down in the muck. Only the precious few who speak out against it are worth a damn.

What never gets said is that America's minority groups - blacks, Jews, Chinese, etc - are all terribly racist themselves. They have absolutely zero problems with racism, just as long as it is racism which benefits them. In fact they regard that as not really 'racism' at all but just the natural order of things. After all, if they are better than other people (and they take it as axiomatic that they ARE better than other people) then of course they should be better off than other people.

Not another puffed- up, resentful Indian! Americans have no need to emulate Indian culture. Instead, we need to rid ourselves of political correctness and multiculturalism, and take care of our own.

Who needs divorce when you have bride burnings? Which traditional holiday should we ditch in favor of World Toilet Day? Would a rigid caste system in the U.S. make for a better culture? How about child rearing? Is there anything more self-reliant and loving than cutting your own child's limbs off to make him a more sympathetic beggar?

Power Mother is what it's really about.

As American economy becomes more 'winner takes all', you must win big to have it good. Otherwise, you're a 'loser'. So, the pressure on mothers(especially with elite status)is fiercer than ever.

In the past, elite mothers thought, 'my kid can discover himself and then eventually face reality'. Now, those who fall behind cannot catch up with those who are ahead in the marathon, and this is especially so because immigration means not only more low-IQ people but more high-IQ people.

If hares race with tortoises, hares can take it easy before resuming the race, especially if many tortoises have no wish to win the game but just want middle class jobs.

Today, hares race with more hares from China and India(and even elite kids from Latin America and Africa),and that means falling behind means you've fallen behind for good.

Elaine was more ambiguous, but considering her father (in one episode), and the way she used to cross herself sometimes, I don't think that character was supposed to be Jewish either.

I never watched Seinfeld. I would stop the clicker on it long enough to see four Jews and then keep moving. Not like OMG no keep moving, more like well, I'm clearly not the target demo, keep moving. So I didn't watch it long enough to get the lil explanations like Elaine crossing herself and whatnot.

Ah yes, those Asian values...

Like melamine being deliberately added to baby formula to save a few bucks... not a case of accidental tainting.

"In China, where adulteration has occurred, water has been added to raw milk to increase its volume. As a result of this dilution the milk has a lower protein concentration. Companies using the milk for further production (e.g. of powdered infant formula) normally check the protein level through a test measuring nitrogen content. The addition of melamine increases the nitrogen content of the milk and therefore its apparent protein content.

Health effects? Kidney failure and cancer

At least China gives the death penalty for corporate criminals. That's an Asian value system I could get my head around.

Comment from that Times of India link:

Defecating in public or open space gives more pleasure and peace than defecating in confinement like rudimentary form of toilets. Actually this is the fact, that many in rural areas despite having or possessing toilets go out in public with a jug of water (not Shri Jug Suraiya please), because of the nature that rural areas offers. So, there has to be some sort of reality check before coming to the conclusion that all people who defecate in public lack toilets. Given a chance, despite having full fledged toilets, I love to defecate in nature.along peacefully..!!!

Big Bill said...

We should adopt "Desi culture"?

What?

According to UN figures on (ahem) "open defecation", half the "Desis" in the world still sh!t on the ground. No flush toilet, no outhouse, hell not even a latrine! In the 21st freaking century!

Of COURSE Desis ran off to America. You would run off and leave your own people too if your "Desi" culture was that backward.

And if you wonder what your future is in the new "Desi-cultured" America, picture your wife and daughters having to squat, every day, outside, in the winter, on the ground, while keeping one eye out for pervs lying in wait. That's what half the "Desi" women on earth are forced to do by their "Desi-cultured" men.

Speaking of hands, shouldn't you be hacking off people's hands and killing children? Those are your values, aren't they:

http://www.yale.edu/gsp/colonial/belgian_congo/

"Leopold's agents held the wives and children of these men hostage until they returned with their rubber quota.[5] Those who refused or failed to supply enough rubber often had their villages burned down, children murdered, and their hands cut off.....To prove the success of their patrols, soldiers were ordered to cut off and bring back dead victims’ right hands as proof that they had not wasted their bullets.[3] If their shots missed their targets or if they used cartridges on big game, soldiers would cut off the hands of the living and wounded to meet their quotas."

If it were up to me, your ass would be deported back to your Indian paradise in two seconds flat.

If it were up to me, your ass would be deported back to the Middle East, since apparently you're not even native to Europe, but came from the Middle East and exterminated the native European hunter-gatherers (those values again).

There are Americans, Italians, Aussies, Filippinos, Singaporeans, Brits all commenting and they all have the same consensus: Indians smell bad and have disgusting hygiene habits (in general).

When people from all different cultures agree on the same basic thing, then you've obviously got a huge problem.

Ergh. Gross. Typical disgusting South Asian creep in typical "Western women are all dumb whores, unlike our 'pure' women" gang rape and street grooming mode.

East and South Asians are seen as privileged and not needing financial help here in the US and this has to do with the immigration selection process. Sometimes our families go completely broke in our home countries, eating only rice and dahl (lentils) twice a day and skipping dinner altogether thus going to bed with grumbling stomachs in order to pay those exhorbitant prices.

Post 1960 Asian migration has been relatively elite, both for East Asians and South Asians. No is eating dal and rice. And even if there were, that's the price you pay for not being able to set up good schools in your primitive countries.

You bring Kentucky Fried Chicken to our native cities and we bring some class, culture and money to your universities.
