Post-Gay Marriage, cont.

What's next? After that bravura display of media marketing muscle that was the gay marriage whoop-tee-doo, what's the encore? There has to be something else to force the rubes to identify themselves by their lack of enthusiasm for the latest cause / crisis. But ... what?

Front and center on NYTimes.com this evening:
A Reluctant Pioneer in Mixed Martial Arts
By GREG BISHOP
Fallon Fox is the first openly transgender athlete in mixed martial arts and the most prominent in a professional sport in decades.
Fallon Fox, born Boyd Burton, found herself in the spotlight after coming out as a transgender fighter in mixed martial arts.
 More Photos

Thanks but no thanks on the "More Photos" offer.

I'm struck by the quote "first openly transgender athlete ..." Is the New York Times implying that other women athletes used to be dudes, but we're not supposed to know about it?

By the way, that much publicized 6'8" center on the Baylor women's basketball team who can dunk, is the WNBA's #1 draft choice, and who recently announced was playing for the other (?) team ...
Keegan-Michael Key butches it up

Here's a Sports Illustrated interview with Brittney Griner, and it's like a Saturday Night Live skit during the seasons when Lorne Michaels is too cheap to spring for a black woman cast member. Brittney Griner is like Tracy Morgan in a dress speaking in falsetto, except that Griner wears a bowtie and speaks in a baritone.

A few skeptics have pointed out that Brittney Griner skipped the Olympics last summer despite being the most dominant player in the world of women's basketball, and the Olympics being the chief showcase for women's basketball. Some have commended the Baylor brain trust for not exposing Griner to the Olympic spotlight that greeted Caster Semenya, a South African youth who is built like an LSU cornerback, who won the silver medal in the women's 800m at the London Games.

The Olympics introduced sex testing in the 1960s because the Nazis, the Soviets, and the North Koreans kept entering men in women's events, but stopped making it regular after the Cold War. But, the Olympics reserve the right to demand sex testing in egregious cases, like Semenya's.

Lots of real women runners complained about Semenya participating on the women's side of the Olympics, but Semenya's ex-East German coach and other managers artfully played the race card. How dare Europeans question a South African person of color? It's just like apartheid! It's sexism and racism rolled into one: sraxcism!

Granted, you may argue that the number of hermaphrodites and transsexuals are too tiny to matter, and that allowing people who are mostly men to beat women (sometimes literally, as in this MMA case) is not in the interest of women. But that's not the point, the point is that there needs to be a new post-gay marriage cause, and a lot is beginning to be invested in R&D to determine which it will be. This is the second article the NYT has highlighted recently on this esoteric issue, so it definitely has a chance.

A commenter points out that an MMA fighter, retired NFL player Matt Mitrione, has already gotten in career trouble for saying out loud that mutilated ex-men shouldn't beat up women for money. From Wikipedia:
On April 8, 2013 it was announced that Mitrione had his contract suspended by the UFC after making transphobic comments about trangendered fighter Fallon Fox during an interview on The MMA Hour," Mitrione called Fox a "lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak," who he hopes never fights again.[19]
The UFC made a statement on Mitrione's comments that read. "The organization finds Mr. Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and – as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct – Mr. Mitrione's UFC contract has been suspended and the incident is being investigated. The UFC is a friend and ally of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community, and expects and requires all 450 of its athletes to treat others with dignity and respect."[20] The suspension was lifted after two weeks when Mitrione's next fight against Brendan Schaub was announced.[18]

Now, you might think of Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, as kind of a money-grubbing vulgarian who is looking to make money off of violent freak shows. But, now we know that, in complete contrast to that horrible mouth-breathing Matt Mitrione, Dana's actually a friend and ally of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community in the struggle against transphobic comments.

From MMAJunkie:
Matt Mitrione apologizes for comments, plans to make amends to LGBT community
by John Morgan on Apr 26, 2013 at 10:10 pm ET
LAS VEGAS – UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione (6-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) has thus far remained silent in regards to his recent suspension for breaching the UFC's code of conduct. But with the promotion's inquiry into the incident complete, Mitrione wants the world to know he's sorry for the remarks.
"I want to apologize for my hurtful comments about Fallon Fox and a group within our society which, in truth, I know nothing about," Mitrione told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I know now there’s an important line between expressing an opinion on a subject and being hurtful and insensitive. I crossed that line by expressing my views in an ugly, rude and inappropriate manner."
The UFC froze Mitrione's contract earlier this month for offensive remarks he made about transgender fighter Fallon Fox. He also was fined an undisclosed amount and, according to UFC President Dana White, complained about the hit to his pocketbook.
In the midst of a rant about Fox's career as a professional MMA fighter, Mitrione called the 37-year-old a "lying, sociopathic freak."
"Earlier this month, heavyweight competitor Matt Mitrione made offensive and hurtful remarks about an individual from the transgender community during an appearance on the 'MMA Hour' broadcast," UFC Executive Vice President and COO Lawrence Epstein explained. "The UFC immediately suspended Mr. Mitrione from all duties relating to his position as a UFC athlete, pending the results of an investigation.
"As communicated to Mr. Mitrione in the form of a written reprimand, that investigation found he went beyond expressing an honestly held belief and that his comments represented a significant breach of the UFC's code of conduct. As a result, Mr. Mitrione received a significant monetary penalty."
UFC officials declined to reveal the amount of Mitrione's fine. However, multiple sources close to the situation repeatedly addressed the value as "significant." Mitrione's pay for his recent UFC on FUEL TV 9 win was not disclosed. This past December, he was paid $12,000 for a loss to Roy Nelson. He would have earned another $12,000 with a win.

$12,000 per fight for an ex-NFL player who fights every few months? No wonder Wikipedia says Dana White's net worth is $150 million.
Many MMA pundits have taken issue with Mitrione's short suspension, which lasted just 16 days before he was recently booked for a summer fight with Brendan Schaub.

Who knew that MMA pundits were paid up members of the Volunteer Auxiliary Thought Police?
"Mr. Mitrione has expressed genuine contrition for the harm he caused," Epstein said. "Matt is not a hateful person, and we are confident in his sincerity to make amends."
UFC officials said they are currently in contact with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to help Mitrione determine how best to work toward repairing his relationship with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. In the meantime, Mitrione said he regrets his choice of words and will ensure that he never again makes the same mistake.
"I know there are people who look up to UFC athletes, and I let them and myself down by setting a very poor example," Mitrione said. "I also want to apologize to Lorenzo Fertitta, Dana White and everyone associated with the UFC.

Ernest Hemingway
You might almost imagine that Dana White is pretty good at manipulating people using powerful 21st Century tropes for his own profit, and that White suspending some meathead jock for objecting to a man who beats up women for money is a good way for Dana White to get even richer. But that couldn't be because Dana White is rich and can pay for expert PR help, in contrast to that awful Matt Mitrione, whom White employs for a few thousand dollars per month. (It could even be that this whole "controversy" was pre-scripted by UFC writers the way WWE feuds are scripted. If so, it worked like a charm, getting serious coverage in the New York Times.)

If F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway were alive today, Fitzgerald would say, "The rich are different," and Hemingway would have answered back, "You are absolutely right, Scott. For example, the rich withhold pay from their employees for making transphobic comments. That's how we know the rich are better."

Be sure to say something about Matt Mitrione.

I wouldn't be surprised if a significant number of elite female athletes belonged to one of the various intersex conditions (of which, there are countless, many difficult to even test for or properly define). Many of these cases would be much less obvious than Caster Semenya. As you've pointed out before, women get a huge boost from even a small amount of extra testosterone.

But having male and female segregated sports in the first place isn't discrimination.

Transphobic?

Gosh its irresponsible to push "transgender" as some kind of cause. Look at Warren Beatty's daughter becoming a man, a gay man at that! Don't tell me she doesn't just want attention for herself. Who would know anything about her besides having famous parents without her being "transgender?" She has a big Twitter following, I've read.

Barbara Walters did a show on transgender children some years ago and they were just not nice kids. One boy beat up his sister regularly; one girl made her parents' lives miserable, did everything she could think of to make them unhappy; the last was a young child, like 5 or 6 and he was skipping around in his girls clothes laughing and smiling and then they showed the other kids in the family and those kids looked so withdrawn and frightened. I bet the little transgender makes the other kids' lives miserable any way he can.

transphobic comments

You have to admire the wordsmithing going on around this topic. If nothing else.

offensive and wholly unacceptable

This is usually one clue that they were fundamentally correct.

The Semenya case was particularly disgusting due to the official cowardice shown (you mentioned some of the reasons for this cowardice --- eg 'she' was black and from South Africe). While I'm not sure if the full results of the examination were ever released (due to privacy concerns), it was pretty clear 'she' was a male with undescended testicles, meaning also with attendant elevated levels of testosterone, giving 'her' an unfair advantage when competing vs women. But they just could not work up the guts to bar 'her'.

UFC president Dana White is no friend of the Culinary Workers Union, Local 226 of Las Vegas.

At issue is the union's beef against anyone with ties to UFC parent company Zuffa, which was founded in 2001 by Station Casinos executives Frank Fertitta III and Lorenzo Fertitta. For years the Culinary Workers have been trying to unionize Station Casinos and, through pointing out any and all negative aspects of the UFC to advertisers and regulators, have proved to be a major pain for Zuffa and the UFC.

The latest salvo by the Culinary Workers Union that has White's attention is a video piecing together comments by White and UFC fighters that could be viewed as profane, derogatory, misogynistic and homophobic.

Now that the gay "marriage" fight is being won across legislatures, everyone is of course excited about what new degradation the left will suddenly decide is a categorical imperative. The answer is becoming clear: Sexual self-mutilation.

Will this become a success? It's possible. Imagine a time, maybe 10 years in the future, when teenagers will brag moralistically/competitively about how they will cut off their penises, or close up their vaginas (or whatever) and anyone who questions it will be called a bigot. A damn, dirty bigot.

The next liberal campaign? Could be pedophilia. Or that could be the one after next, if liberalism survives that long. Other possibilities:

Drug legalization. It would be easy for them to ram that through.
The end of legal gun ownership. That would be harder.
Nudity, especially gay porn, on billboards, in advertising, on prime time TV.
Decreasing the incarceration rate, and not just through drug decriminalization. Just filling the streets with criminals.
Reparations for slavery.
Doing to domestic oil and gas companies what they did to tobacco companies.

Steve Hsu believes that in 5 to 10 years it will be possible to non-destructively test zygotes for intelligence and other traits. A couple could produce some number of zygotes in vitro, then the one with the greatest IQ potential could be implanted into the woman. I don't know if Dr. Hsu is being too optimistic about this.

If the Chinese government succeeds at meaningful eugenics, then our elites will drop everything to focus on demonizing that. While using this technique in secret to enhance their own offspring of course. As a side effect, to strengthen their rhetorical position, our elites would become pro-life. I can imagine a situation where outing prominent anti-eugenics activists as users (or products) of eugenic techniques could become a capital offence. This cries out for a sci-fi treatment. Writing a sci-fi novel which then becomes reality could make even the worst hack famous.

So how to get there from where we are? I guess polygamy is the easiest step from gay marriage?

The UFC is a very odd organization from many perspectives: pay scale, PR, talent scouting, etc. I've been following it for years and it has had a strange relationship with PR. It has steadily grown more respectable. Still, the perception remains that:

"And UFC is really trashy. It's got a whole methhead/pro-wrestling vibe to it."

Not sure that vibe is changing anytime soon, and I'm not sure Dana White wants it to. As long as MMA is what it is women, traditionalists, and limp-wrists will join forces to hate it. And as long as the sport is what it is, young men are gonna be captivated by it. White's job on the PR front is to not anger the major media organs too much but ruffle their feathers just a little bit. His core customers are 18-30 year old men, many of whom use the term "faggot" like it's going out of style. (Which it is, but that's all the more reason they use it.)

Maybe I'm seeing things, but this sport is just damned interesting from the cultural perspective. A little more on topic, does anyone else just want to clean their eyes after they read stuff like this:

"UFC officials said they are currently in contact with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to help Mitrione determine how best to work toward repairing his relationship with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. In the meantime, Mitrione said he regrets his choice of words and will ensure that he never again makes the same mistake."

Already feminists are talking up polygamy. Most women, save the most attractive (top 1/2 of 1%) would happily share an Alpha with other women, over all of an ordinary man. That's just the way it is -- women want just the top men, the ones that all the other women want.

I've seen two articles already from feminists pushing polygamy. Bonus, it sticks it to Christians and curries favor with Muslims. Who will wholeheartedly endorse it, just imagine -- Joe Average White guy who hasn't touched a woman in years paying for the next Tamerlan Tsarnaev's four wives (and five concubines) and combined 22 kids! Why its enough to make feminists, gays, liberals etc. jump for joy, its more diverse than a rainbow. Over a gay couple. Burning a bible.

Unless Mitrione specifically connected trannieness to crazy, then Dana White is transphobic for assuming that of course being transsexual is related to mental illness.

My wife is a keen Rugby player, so she was pretty upset when I told her about this push to have men beating up women in violent womens' sports, like Rugby. She took the view that if this catches on it will destroy women's sport above high school level. There are a lot of freakish men who like to hurt women, and this is the perfect outlet for them to do so. Real women are aware they are not as strong as men, and they are aware that there are men out there who like hurting them. They will not stand for it; they'll just stop playing sport.

Notice I use the male pronoun to describe him. Having a body part cut off does not make him a woman, it makes him a crazy man who has had plastic surgery.

This is ridic - excuse me, ludicrous.

See, people make lots of money making and selling guns. So the 2nd Amendment is much more secure than other rights.

It's much harder to make money securing freedom of speech, much less the non-enumerated right to not be race-replaced out of existence. In fact, there's lots of money to be made in race-replacement.

It won't be polygamy, that's too obvious. It will play into all the crap the conservatives gave them about how gay marriage would lead to polygamy. No, they'll let all that talk slide down the memory hole and push a couple other issues through first, though polygamy will of course be legalized later.

The obvious candidate is legalizing cannabis, which is already underway and frankly supported by enough conservatives that it won't become a left-right thing as much as gay marriage. I'm guessing reparations won't happen because blacks are no longer the darlings of the left that can be held up as a banner of progressiveness. Environmentalism isn't the talk of the town, so I don't see that getting a big push again for a little while. Transphobia is unlikely to become a thing because frankly there are a lot of people who don't know anybody transsexual (I mean there are only a few tens of thousands in the whole country). The gay movement (or should I say the lesbian movement, let's be honest here) got really infatuated with sticking more and increasingly divergent sexuality-related groups in its coalition for a while, that's the only reason we talk about half of those groups. See: LGBTTIQQ2SA

After cannabis, something about out-of-wedlock childbirth is my guess. A lot of middle-class families are watching their daughters have kids out of marriage, so something that makes it more normal and enshrines it as a responsible choice. I don't know how they'll go about it, but that's my call.

I do think that with transgenders the LBGT movement will be going a bridge too far.

Apparently, even the famously liberal Warren Beatty and Annette Bening can't accept their daughter's decision to cross genders. Likewise, at least for a good time, even with Cher. Could there possibly be more receptive, motivated people for acceptance than such parents? How will others without such powerful reason to be accepting get to that point?

And then there's just the sheer quantity of denial of reality required for so many of their issues.

How can anyone with a capacity for rational thought not realize, for example, that someone who was born a man -- like this fighter -- is just not going to be physically the same as someone who was born a woman? How about the size of the hands, the size of the shoulders, etc. -- are we supposed to ignore those facts or simply pretend that they aren't there, or for some reason just can't possibly contribute to athletic performance?

And then there's the problem with transgender use of various gender based facilities, particularly when young children are involved. There was, for example, a case in which a man who was transitioning to a woman, but continued to have male genitalia, insisted on going into a woman's sauna in which young girls were present. Given the logic of the case trangenders want to make, he/she should be in his/her rights to do exactly what normal women do. But, of course, the children were freaked out.

I just don't see how this can end well for the transgender cause, however hard they push it. It's in the nature of these movements that they insist on getting everything, and refuse to make compromises.

But the larger public is never going to accept an athlete with hands the size of hams as a women, nor a "woman" with male genitalia in a women's sauna, nor any of another million things that the transgenders will, obsessively and aggressively, insist on.

By contrast, accepting gays into a large variety of situations has been proven easy-peasy, no doubt in large part because we don't really have to be exposed to graphic visual evidence of the difference, nor are children so exposed.

Its funny. Thirty years ago if you had asked me if I could ever see the day when polygamy or paedophilia would be legalized, I would have said "NO" without a second's hesitation. Now, sad to say, I would have to answer yes.

Pardon me for asking, but what EXACTLY is "transgender"? I always thought transsexual meant full pyhsical change from man to woman, with complete surgical removal of all male genitalia. What is this "transgender" nonsense? Does this mean a 6'4" 260 lb construction worker can suddenly start walking around in a dress, claim he identifies as a "female" and use the same public washroom my seven year old daughter is in?

"See, people make lots of money making and selling guns. So the 2nd Amendment is much more secure than other rights."

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Perhaps if Australia had had gun manufacturers instead of just importers and distributors, there may have been more of a fight put up. So in this case, liberals judge banning guns as a bridge too far. Or they try but aren't successful.

Yes, exactly. That is the precise logic of the movement. If an individual claims they wish to be a member of the opposite sex, then ipso facto they must be treated as one, starting with an immediate change of pronouns and ending with the use of any facilities they wish to avail themselves of which are designated for their chosen gender.

And the absurdity of that claim, as irresistible as it is to progressives and those in the media, is what will doom the movement.

Yes.

I do think Dana White is a "vulgarian" and do not think much of him, but there are some misleading remarks in this article and in some of the comments.

"$12,000 per fight for an ex-NFL player who fights every few months? No wonder Wikipedia says Dana White's net worth is $150 million."

This is just silly class warfare. White's speculated networth is derived entirely from the valuation of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which he built from a failing business with financing from the Fertitta brothers. The great bulk of the business is owned by the latter two partners.

The $12,000 per fight purse for Matt Mitrione is likely only the amount declared to the athletic commission. Since fighter pay is very opaque in this industry, it is difficult to say with any certainty, but given the information that is available in public, I would make an informed speculation that Matt Mitrione probably earns at least $100,000-$200,000 per fight based on declared purse, "locker room" bonus and sponsporship. Of course, Mitrione has people to pay himself (trainers, dieticians, etc.), but $300,000-$600,000 income (assuming 3 fights per year, before expenses) for someone who is at best a journeyman fighter is not too shabby.

Of course, champions and top-ten fighters frequently earn millions a year as UFC fighters. Georges St. Pierre, the long-running UFC welterweight champion, not exactly known for bombastic statements or exaggerations, stated once that his total earning per years is in the range of $15 million. Whether or not that claim is true, he likely does make millions a year if not 15 million.

As for the UFC being a "trashy" sport, reportedly about 70% of UFC fighters have college degrees (one noted former middleweight champion, Rich Frankline, has a master's agree and was a school teacher previously). This compares rather favorably to the other big combat sport, boxing in which illiterates are common.

And aside from the sheer number of degrees, the martial arts tradition also tend to "class up" at least some of the fighters. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiOcUVcqLT8

When someone cuts his junk off to prove his sincerity, that's enough proof for me.

I can't get mad at people who claim nebulous sexual identities. If science shows they exist, it is up to society to adapt to living with them, no matter how complicated the process. Denying reality doesn't help conservatives.

Really? I would always consider this type of character more of a threat to little boys, whose restrooms they can already share. Maybe all bathrooms should be unisex, with stalls that provide more privacy - that way either parent can keep an eye on both sons and daughters.

Isn't the endgame here an end to womens' UFC fighting? At some point, almost the only people left will be transsexuals, and UFC will effectively have two tiers--men, and castrati. There aren't all that many m->f transsexuals out there, but a lot of the ones who are have really awful jobs and lives now, working as transsexual street whores. For the youngish, healthy ones, fighting other transsexual men and the occasional really tough and dedicated woman has *got* to be a safer and better way to make a living than that. Being a bomb disposal technician would be a safer job than street prostitution.

For 100,000 years, we were pig-ignorant of the possible scientific fact that many lesbians are born into men's bodies and therefore have the absolute right to a 21st-century medical procedure. How did the human race survive and prosper before this scientific possibility was suspected?

Pedophiles probably also have a certain brain chemistry. (Google "Handedness in Pedophilia and Hebephilia".) Therefore, it's up to society to adapt to living with them (never vice-versa), no matter how complicated the process. Correct? Perhaps you can suggest some ways of "adapting" to living with pedophilia. I'm all ears. After all, denying reality doesn't help conservatives. Really lay it all out there in your response so that people can see how conservative you are.

St. Pierre is a huge liar in terms of salary...

http://www.celebritynetworth.com/articles/entertainment-articles/georges-stpierre-5-million-ufc-fight/

The UFC pays these guys HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS per fight (no missprint). A headliner such as St. Pierre might make a half a million. Jon Jones the GREATEST FIGHTER WHO EVER LIVED is rumored to half a NET WORTH of about 4 million dollars. Or, roughly what the Mexican bum who fights Mayweather on Cinco De Mayo, makes every year. Mayweather makes almost 10x that.

They make more than half of their money in endorsements, and even then, they are not Peyton Manning or LeBron James. The UFC is quite a good deal for Dana White, I think Don King and Bob Arum are quite envious of his graft. BTW, the Machida philosophy video was interesting; here's another...

Sorry for the delayed response, but I feel you are owed a response.
Pedophiles are probably the most outcast of the outcasts, they have an appetite that strays so far from the norm that even their tentative defenders would prefer they were not around. Are they responsible for being loaded with bad genetic software. They, especially if they are discovered, have no hope of consolation in any community. I suggest that society adapt by offering them euthanasia. I am reluctant to say this but it should probably be offered before they commit an offense. If a post pubescent person touches a child sexually or is in possession of child porn, society should advise them that maybe they are not cut out for this world and perhaps they should consider leaving it. It is less cruel than inflicting a life of imprisonment or ostracization. An easy death should be offered to all deviants. I have a feeling that many people facing a decision between satisfying an uncontrollable urge to cut their penises off, or, just ending it all, would choose the latter. I will put the question back to you, how should a conservative handle deviants and those with strange monothematic delusions?

I often reflect on a quote from the most read Christian text after the bible:

Be assured that if you knew all, you would pardon all.

Thomas a Kempis

I feel that a conservative's job is to try to know all.
